Title: ground meat still good? 2days sealed
Post by: Raulik on September 06, 2018, 06:33:28 am
I have ground meat in fridge sealed inside box for 2 days

Is it still good to eat? No anaerobic bacteria built up that its not good to eat anymore?

Its hard to say for a fact, i honestly dont like ground meat at all even when its fresh, but if it tastes fine i would say its likely fine. The only meat ive ever had that i think was bad tasted absolutely terrible, i bought 6 half off grass fed steaks in vacuum sealed packs from tom thumb that were supposed to go bad that night because i was out of meat from my normal supplier, two of them tasted like the most repelling thing ive ever put in my mouth i wouldnt even feed them to my dog i threw them out. I feel like in most all cases your senses can tell you whats not safe to eat, though that might not always hold true. If its bitter than i say get rid of it for sure, i theorize that the steaks fell to imporper temperatures and that combined with the vacuum sealed packs caused the bad growth if they had had air or been colder im sure it would have been fine

Supermarket meat is the only option I have access to. Are the e-coli claims really that common, or would you get away with eating raw ground meat from the supermarket?

I regularly buy ground beef and I recommend storing them in proper sealable glass containers such as

https://www.amazon.co.uk/VonShef-Piece-Glass-Container-Storage/dp/B0144V5UIM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1537211016&sr=8-1&keywords=vonchef+glass+container

then there are different types which have no sealer rubber around and these I wouldn´t recommend (something similar to https://www.amazon.co.uk/GOURMETmaxx-02973-Storage-Containers-Stackable/dp/B00HDADPXO/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1537211016&sr=8-6&keywords=vonchef+glass+container).

I also store it at the lowest shelf at the very back. I found that at that location things last much longer. When I buy raw ricotta it usually lasted 3-4 days in the original plastic container, however, when I started to put it in the sealable glass container it easily lasts 7 days. Raw meat the same. 4-5 days isn´t an issue and it might last even longer.
