This article about high intensity training was interesting...you don't need to do endurance training to get endurance.
I found it interesting that it increased the number and size of mitochondra in cells - might explain why it seems to be helping me adapt to high fat/lo carb quicker.
PS can anyone let me know how to do an inline link? It's not in the help.

Ok, I go to market at least once a week and carry several kilos of stuff.
I wonder if having sex once a week counts. :o
I think I need more exercise than 6 mins a week.

The were studying endurance, but the author keeps saying "fit" as if the terms were synonymous.
The answer to the question, I suspect, is "no". You can increase your endurance, it seems, but I would guess that if one is looking to be "fit", one has to work out a bit more than that.

It is actually 18-27 minutes...30s completely all out then 4mins rest, repeated 4-6 times. I reckon that would give you serious sprint fitness anyway.

I learned from Lex Rooker that a raw Paleo diet can add mitochondria to your body's cells:
"Adaptation to fat and ketones requires the cells to add mitochondria as they are the power houses that allow the cells to burn fat. This will take about 3 months or maybe more. In the mean time you may have periods that you feel low on energy." --Lex Rooker, Re: Am I fat adapted? « Reply #4 on: April 23, 2009, 06:35:33 AM » (http://www.rawpaleoforum.com/general-discussion/am-i-fat-adapted/msg11507/#msg11507)
I had known that dietary change could treat mitochondrial diseases, but didn't know it could increase the biogenesis of mitochondria.
Omega 3 fats and resveratrol, which are found in Paleo foods, have been identified in increasing the number of mitochondria: > "Polyunsaturated fatty acids of marine origin [EPA and DHA] upregulate mitochondrial biogenesis and induce ?-oxidation in white fat." http://www.cababstractsplus.org/abstracts/Abstract.aspx?AcNo=20053209661 > "Resveratrol induces mitochondrial biogenesis in endothelial cells" (http://ajpheart.physiology.org/cgi/content/abstract/00368.2009v1)
The beneficial effects of a raw Paleo diet on mitochondria may partly account for its anti-aging effects (see "Mitochondria and Aging" (http://www.actionbioscience.org/genomic/wallace.html)), along with its positive effects regarding insulin and inflammation.
