Title: Eating Raw before or after workout?
Post by: Coatue on August 09, 2010, 09:37:11 am
Is it better to eat before or after the workout? Is there a certain amount a of time you should give yourself between the 2 activities?

This is highly individualized based on preference and goals. For example, I do fasted hiking and steady state cardio, but I like to eat just a little before lifting weights. I lift weights before I do cardio on the 3 days I do lift weights, so I am basically fasted by the time I do cardio.

I have about .5lb. ground beef raw before weightlifting. I do fasted cardio. I don't eat after working out. I eat my meal in the evening (Warrior style) and usually workout about 6-8 on weekdays so I just wait to eat. On the weekends, I lift on Saturday so that is the only day I eat in the morning. On Sundays I usually do my cardio fasted in the morning and do not eat until the evening per usual. That never varies. I never eat mid day, or a post workout specific meal.

This works very well for my bodybuilding goals.

I prefer eating at times when I can relax afterward. Active throughout the day then eat a meal and relax is what I do. I never eat a hefty amount before intense exercise. That to me is just doesn't feel good.

You should eat as soon as possible after the workout, putting emphasis on carbs first (e.g. fruits) to recover lost glycogen from the muscles, and then protein (e.g. fish, egg yolk, lean meat) to repair and build better muscles. The sooner you eat and the easier it is to digest this post-workout meal, the better.

Before hand I wouldn't eat much, a couple of fruits at most like an hour before.

Broscience. You do not need to eat right after working out in order to recover.

I do or I collapse. If i don't eat within 2hrs after working out I'm in trouble.

I eat lots of fruits to increase glycogen storage on weightlifting days. than I eat nothing 2hrs prior to working out. Post workouts is smoothy from 6 raw eggs+1ltr raw milk+1 teaspoon honey.

That is probably because you are eating so many carbs. You cannot go long without fuel.
