Does anyone eat these regularly and or enjoy them? I ate my first pair of cow oysters and I see now why they are called that. I enjoy a lot of different organs and glands on a regular basis, but testicles were a little hard to get down. Are they all about the same lamb, goat, bison etc.? I will probably have them again just to have assortment and I can't help but feel that maybe they will supply nutrients to my own testicles/sex organs. I have heard about people eating them in order to increase libido, but I don't know if that is true.
-
This is funny, I was about to make a thread about this.
I have some cow oysters in the freezer that I'll probably try pretty soon.
Can't say I know anything about those of other animals, or their purported effects though.
-
I've only had them cooked before, and I don't think I could handle it raw.
And 'effects' seems a little bit mystical to me.
-
I get stag testicles from time to time, and found them difficult to cut up, and extremely rank re taste.
-
ive only tried bison testicles once, and it was only a little bite. it was the grossest thing ive ever tasted.
oh, and that was after maybe a good 10minutes trying to get a good handle on the thing to cut it open, i guess next time i would cut it while it was frozen.
also, im very sensitive about my own balls so it was a surreal experience cutting into them.
-
I had goat testicles the other day.
They tasted great!

I rather enjoyed that blog post!

Gotta quote that
-
I used to eat fried lamb testicles all the time. They tasted great when cooked. I don't dare to try them raw yet.
-
it looks like im gonna be trying some lamb or goat balls soon...
i was talking to a lady who sells grassfed lamb and goat at the farmers market on wednesday and i asked her if she ever had organs for sale. she said she didnt usually bring them to the market and she 'wasn't allowed' to sell the fryers (testicles) but she had them in her freezer at home. but then she said she would sell them to me. i guess because i buy from her a lot. anyways, she said she'd bring some the the saturday market. it's gonna get interesting.
also, this got me cracking up. but now im a little scared:

I eat raw lamb testicles regularly and I find them great; they really boost my testosterone levels ;)
I got used to them quite quickly, without any problems. But there is only one condition - they must be fresh (usually up to 3 days), because older ones aren't tasty
-
well mine are gonna be frozen. hopefully they'll still be at least somewhat palatable. anyone else eaten them? suggestions?

I agree, testicles need to be absolutely fresh. I once tried raw stag testicles and they were too smelly for me(and I'm a fan of high meat after all). Raw testicles can be very tough to eat so cut them up into tiny slices.
-
after all). Raw testicles can be very tough to eat so cut them up into tiny slices.
Raw lamb testicles are very soft and easy to eat - there is hardly any chewing
I like the testicles' juice, in which I dip the chunks of mutton suet 8)
-
alright, i got two lamb and two goat testicles (frozen). should i just thaw one ball at a time? i kinda don't think i could even eat a whole nut in a sitting... damn, they're kinda intimidating. anything else i should know before i make an attempt to eat one?
-
I get them fresh when i want some, Since nobody else wants them i can get them whenever i want. They're like scallops to me except the skin covering the testicle is VERY tough.. Use a sharp knife and cut them into smaller pieces and i usually just bolt them down. I havnet noticed my genitles swelling to mammoth proportions though so don't get your hopes up.. haha
-
ha, that wasn't what i was expecting. I just cut off a little bit of a frozen lamb ball and thawed it out. it reminded me a lot of pancreas but not in a good way at all. i definitely got the 'oyster' vibe though. they're a little bit salty and the texture of scallops (and pancreas). they didn't smell bad to me but i couldn't really handle the taste. i got a few small nibbles in but had to put it away after that. i'll keep trying it every once in a while to see if they start to taste good. i got a bag full of about 10 testicles each of lamb and goat it turns out, so might as well keep trying. lots o' balls.
has anyone tried drying them or making high meat? i think i might be able to eat them if dried or something
-
the skin covering the testicle is VERY tough..
Yes it is, but I don't eat it - I eat just the flesh
making high meat?
After one-week-aging they're already quite strong ;)
-
so i tried a little again today and it wasn't nearly as bad. i could probably eat a small sliver every couple days
-
raw testicles :o
Do they taste ummm... a little salty when you bite into them?
Maybe a creamy filling on the inside? lol
-
actually, they are a little salty. haha. they're not my favorite for sure but i cut of a slice to defrost every once in a while
-
I only got testicles once. They were too big for me. I couldn't finish them fresh. I had to ferment them. Ovaries on the other had I got several times. They are tiny, and taste milder. I wonder, why are the ovaries so much smaller than the testicles? Are they from younger animals?
-
I plan to try these soon. They they really help increase testosterone?
-
They they really help increase testosterone?
Yeah, they definitely increase libido level. They contain a lot of zinc and selenium.
-
Are there any nutrition data of testicles?
-
Check the usda nutrient database. The data might well be there.
-
Hi Tyler, the site is surprisingly easy to use, just found it now, thanks for the suggestion. It doesn't have it though: http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/cgi-bin/nut_search_new.pl (http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/cgi-bin/nut_search_new.pl), unless it's called something else.
-
No, it would definitely be under something called "nut_search_new.pl"
-

It seems not to be related to the age of the animal. Testicles are usually bigger than ovaries for many species (typically 30 cm3 versus 7 cm3 for homo sapiens). I guess it's rather a matter of "factory size". Testicles have to produce a tremendously large number of mature spermatozoa whereas ovaries have to produce only a very modest number of ovules.
This in turn reflects the different strategies for reproductive success of males and females, respectively wastefull generosity and high care. :)

There is some information here

which state are you in? i'd love to buy from that lady too. is it grass fed? thanks

im in texas. i've had grass fed goat and lamb testicles from her. i told her they were for my dog - no questions asked. i actually didnt like the lamb ones so they're still in my freezer.

too bad that i live in nj. still i wish i can pay her for shipping. thanks a lot for this information. i'm new in this diet and the whole food near my house is sucks . i just can't order anything except the livers. thanks again and enjoy eating them.
-
Hi, try Northstar Bison. You can google the name. they have everything but back fat. It's where I get 90 percent of my food right now. Some of the best meat in the world, for their bison live on pristine green fields of grass, at least right now, before the snow comes. Plus their shipping is so reasonable.
-
thanks van. i'll try that for sure.
-
I ate 2 lamb testicles and it was really great!
I cut the testicles in slices and let it dry at room temperature during 10 days.
In France, it is a common food that one can find in the shops. We call them white kidney ("rognon blanc") or animelle.
I didn't find anything in nutritiondata about testicles. I know that sperm is a very nutritious food...
-
>_<
...
-
gross, bison or bull testicles are colorados state food i think
"rocky mountain oysters"
do they really still have sperm in them though? wouldnt it drain out?
-v
-
the testicles I ate look like Uni or sea urchin, bright to pale organge. They are solid, not little or big sacks filled with semen. I think the semen is in the prostrate?
-
i ate ram's testicles and i gave my toddler from that. very delicious. ;)
-
Well, yesterday I had a bit of diarrhea, and this morning a light headache... A bit high probably for me. -d
But the tests definitively increase my libido.
-
Tests as well as semen contain a substantial quantity of testosterone, the hormone that determines the libido. Possibly at least part of this testosterone gets into the blood stream when present in ingested food.
For the fanatic anti-carb and anti-fructose devotees notice that semen contains fructose and sorbitol ;)

Carbs are definitively everywhere!
ZC looks like a whim.

AFAIK women shouldn't eat testicles - it's hormone-related issue

I'm wondering whether this is really true or not. Healthy women's organisms produce a small (but important for instance for sex drive and libido) quantity of testosterone, anyway. The quantity of testosterone brought about by the testicles as food is also small and probably only part of it survives the digestive process. Testosterone derives from cholesterol.

I think people should eat what they like to eat, as long as it is a "living food" (something that grows good bacteria in you). I tried buffalo testicle, but I really didn't like the textures (for a regular food) nor flavor. I don't plan to get them again, as I didn't like eating any, and my cats didn't do so well on it either.
-
rawzi...would you eat ovaries? not that i assume they are appealing to you but if you had a supply or a few on a plate?
-

I agree, eating something must be pleasurable and if possible delicious.
I never ate sexual glands (tests or ovaries) from land mammals, just routinely those from crabs or fishs (whole anchovies, not gutted) or shellfishs which are usually delicious.
I intend to try bull or boar tests if I can get some. As Carnivore told us, I'll cut them in slices and dry them a little bit. I eat almost all organs (liver, kidney...) in this way because they taste better than fresh.

i am assuming fish and crustaceans do not produce the same hormones as humans? and that the vitamins/minerals/fats inherent in their bodies are what promotes proper sexual health function in humans?
-
Udders are supposedly toothsome - they are fatty :)

Sexual hormones, in particular testosterone, are very conserved among vertebrates. But you're right, the one in fish is markedly different from ours but probably nevertheless active in humans. Hormone supplementation in medical care is actually done with forms that often differ from the natural one but are still active....

And I agree, proper sexual health in humans is just the same as proper general health in humans i.e. a matter of appropriate good nutrition.
