Well, I did once change my username on another website to "Muad'Dib" for a lark, given its literal meaning and the reference to the famous main character in "Dune". And I didn't include Fight Club as there is an annoying known tendency on those "best 100 movies of all time" generic lists/polls to have most of the top ranks filled with films that only appeared a decade or two ago. Besides, "The Wages of Fear" is a similiar sort of film to Fight Club in a way .

Well, gotta run n get ready to go to my friend's xmas party, I am sad I will have to cook the shrimp I am bringing because they wont eat it raw....its very fresh tiger shrimp beautiful yellow and blue colors, maybe I'll have mine raw and fry theirs with butter and garlic, although thats yummi too :D should go well with a few bottles of polish vodka! -v -d -v

Not entirely, as I have a loathing of some French filmmakers like Godard. But I'll see if I can watch it once I eventually get dvd rentals going again. Thanks.

I just saw Avatar on BluRay and it is too damn awesome eye candy.
It just has to be high resolution BluRay for this movie, totally immersed.

I saw it 3-d iMax theatre. WOW it was incredible. Those little white fuzzy things ;D floating by.

I saw about 5 minutes of that and turned it off. I can't stomach senseless violence. However I know others who thought highly of it.

Yeah but the story and acting is so horrible I couldn't really watch it, even though the effects are amazing...it just pisses me off even more they wasted all these nice effects on such a movie! If they work so much on the effects can't they at least try and make an interesting and engaging story...WTF!

I know, I have seen a few scenes and was truly appalled.

I saw Avatar on the most massive IMAX in my area. Yeah it was a terribly artless movie with a naive premise, but i'm sure that premise hit home in a positive way to some equally naive people. Some of the scenes did transcended just effects and transported you to somewhere else.

There is grownups running around half naked and painted blue thinking they are avatar, check on youtube its ridiculous. I can imagine how embarrassed their kids and family are LOL...

I haven't watched that movie but maybe if you waited more then 5 minutes you may have found out the point of why they were showing the violence?

Well I did and up having some of the shrimps raw and they were incredible, dam now I am addicted to an expensive raw meat aaaaahh
However the raw shrimp didn't make me immune to the too much voka part so still -v

exactly, yeah, it might have been 'cliche' or whatever, but there's no getting around the GREAT parabole. it was just awesome to see such a huge movie attacking industry and western culture

Which "Bladerunner"? The original (with narration) or the director's cut (without)? Personally, I love the original - that whole 1950s detective noir thing was totally cool.
I think the opening of "2001..." and the first "X-files" movie were scary as hell. Not in a horror film sort of way, but in a real, gritty, "this is what a human does" (as opposed to every other animal on earth). Proto-humans thinking, reasoning, and then hunting that which had killed them earlier.
Reminds me of Frank Herbert from "Dune":
"You've heard of animals chewing off a leg to escape a trap? That's an animal kind of trick. A human would remain in the trap, endure the pain, feigning death that he might kill the trapper and remove a threat to his kind."
Gotta love The first 2 "Terminator" movies and the all the "Alien" movies!

Avatar's story was sort of good but the war stuff was typical military bs.
Saw "A Good Woman" last night. Lots of good laughs, one-liners, battle of the sexes jokes and a very confusing story. I had to get my GF to explain the soap opera stuff going on. Helen Hunt is an excellent actress. Sexy and bright. She was excellent in "What Women Want" another excellent movie.
To me a movie has to be funny but not like the sitcom pablum crap. I like action but not senseless violence. Movies they scare the faeces outta ya are a waste to me.

I watched both, I like the original. Its a very cool film noir. The ending when the cyborg Roy Batty dies and makes his speech makes me cry :'(
Its a beautiful movie and has nice artistic qualities. Rutger Hauer is hot in that movie.
Terminator and Alien are classics, I always love the first/earlier ones. I was fascinated with them as a kid and still now. Both the women actresses in terminator and alien are hot too.
Man....I wish there were more movies like that today.
Have you seen Dark City? Its not in the eliteness of Blade Runner but a nice film noir none the less.

"Memoirs of a Geisha"
Excellent movie. A bit sad but uplifting. A portrait of Japanese culture from the start of the 20th century following the life of a young girl plucked from a fisherman's world when her parents died up through her becoming a Geisha. At least it had an uplifting ending. Curiously it was written by a non-oriental and most of the people other than actors were Americans. It would have been much better on the silver screen.

2.The last supper (I like the premise, the acting is fair until Ron Perlman enters the scene and blows everybody out of the water)
3. 28 days later (reinventing something as classical as zombies and make it stick in the global mindset is quite the trick)

5. Antichrist (completely deranged. World class acting from Dafoe and Gainsbourg. Lars von Trier is one messed up SOB)

"What Women Want"
A hilarious movie about the title. Mel Gibson goes from being a macho advertising guy who grew up surrounded by beautiful women in a New Orleans Brothel, who meets his nemesis Helen Hunt. Then he has an accident which allows him to hear what women are thinking. It's actually an eye opener for Mel and guys in general to really know what goes on in there. ;D :D
If you really could hear what's going on in there you woud quickly tire of it but it explains some of the bizarre activities of women folk. ;D ;D ;D
The sequel "What Men Want" is literally a no-brainer. Take a wild guess. Three letters, start with s, and end with what I call my previous wife. ;D ;D

Reminds me of my mother who insisted on feeding me lots of pasteurised(and a little raw dairy) when I was a child because retarded doctors all over recommended that children should consume dairy products for "healthy bones".

That clip reminds me of the hype around antioxidants. I have seen bars containing chocolate exclaiming that it is a source of antioxidants.

1. Ikiru (Akira Kurosawa was the master of every genre known to man. This list would probably include four more Kurosawa's if I thought about it.)
2. Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion (You would most likely have to see the television show this was based on to understand what the hell was happening. As it's an alternate ending to the series. The series is pretty mediocre half the time though.)

I have recently seen 4 films by the director Ozu Yasujiro, "Tokyo Story", "Early Spring", "Late Autumn", and "Late Spring". They are absolutely incredible:- one watches for the first 20 minutes or so, wondering when something is actually going to happen, then one gets gradually irresistibly drawn into the whole drama, watching the screen the whole time intently, despite nothing much actually happening! Imagine if some incredible super-genius were to direct and turn standard, pretentious crap like "Eastenders" or "Neighbours" or "The Crosby Show" into 24-carat gold, and you get some idea of just how amazing this guy is!
I was blown away! Plus Ozu's whole theme is on how ancient Japan is being superseded by more modern cultural practices, and, by the end of such a film, one feels really sad about the passing of a decent era and the coming of a new, less worthy era, full of "Big Macs", "baseball" etc.

4. Pusher Trilogy
I recently watched this. First one was awesome, second and third were pretty depressing. Also in the third they prepare a traditional meat dish but the meat is undercooked and they become very sick running to the bathroom and having abdominal pain. Very funny!
