Hey. I've eaten meat which has got a bit icy in the fridge before, but never meat which has been frozen solid.
Because the shops are shut, my parents have offered me 2 frozen pheasants which they prepared from whole animals and then put in the freezer, so they're frozen solid. What should I do to eat them raw? Should I just take it out of the freezer and eat immediately? Or should I let it thaw a bit in the fridge first? They're in little sealed plastic bags, should I take them out and put them on a plate or leave them inside?
Thanks.

Personally, I would thaw them first. I don't see any problem with eating them how they are, though. Might be a little tough on the teeth. :'(

I always let frozen meat thaw. I tried eating sme frozen meat, but my digestive system didn't like it and besides it wasn't as nearly as filling as thawed meat.

I just ate it frozen, and then put what I didn't eat back in the freezer, still frozen.

Inuits have eaten a plethora of frozen meats without any problems.
It's very natural in a cold environment.

I get the impression that some people here are against frozen meat because of the nutrient loss. Does freezing meat actually lower the nutrient value a lot?
According to this it doesn't change that much.

Drying destroys vitamins pretty badly, more so than cooking for many vitamins. What would William say? ;D

No, it doesn't.
I asked one professor of Meat Institute and he told be so. Only the aging properties are deteriorated, to some extent.

Well, yes and no. Freezing, apparently, disrupts the cell-membranes which leads to serious nutrient-loss once the meat is thawed. However, this process takes time, so if one just thaws the raw meats and then immediately eats them after they are thawed, then that makes little difference. Also, RVAFers seem to report that prefrozen meat tastes less good than nonfrozen meats.
I believe some claim that enzymes are slightly damaged by freezing, and 1 long-term RVAFer even claimed that enzymes get destroyed completely after 10 weeks or more of freezing, I think. Unsubstantiated claims, but let's face it, the science behind enzymes is still little understood even by mainstream scientists, and there is precious little info on the effects of freezing on raw foods.

Also you can just eat the meat whilst it's still frozen, thawing it in your mouth. That's the best.
