Title: fasts from animal foods
Post by: svrn on February 04, 2012, 01:58:53 pm
I was wondering if anyone abstains from animal foods for a certain period of time and for what reasons. Is there any situation that would warrant such a thing such as giving the meat processing part of your digestive system a rest or something like that? I figure since I eat animal foods so predominantly (about 80 percent or more) I feel like maybe I'm overworking that part of my digestion system but I could be wrong.

Is eating fruits and vegetable juices exclusively for a certain period of time beneficial in certain situations or is it always harmful?

If you think you're overworking 'that' part of the digestive system then it's smarter to eat less animal foods and more plants in your everyday diet, not completely eliminate them for a few days.

It's beneficial if you want to lose weight and especially muscles.

I would say you shouldn't have to do this, as long as you're not experiencing any of the usual symptoms of people who are having trouble with low-carb diets.

Im just going through a detox right now and animal foods dont seem appealing to me at all. Im just craving very water rich things like fruits now and feel like maybe I should listen to my body and not eat animals for a little bit. But then again my body could be telling me the wrong thing since all my research tells me you should eat animals at all times.

This is funny, because I'm on something of a "fast" from animal foods right now, for the past couple weeks. Pretty much just fruits and veggies, including a lot of coconut. But it's because I had been eating tons and tons of butter and cheese there for a while (I used to live on a farm with people who eat intensely rich all the time, so it's kind of a default for me)... and started eating more red meat than I usually do, too. I overdid it, so now I'm on a cleansing thing. Presumably, if I had been more moderate, instead of getting overly excited that I could eat so much cheese and butter, I wouldn't need the cleanse. Still, though, it's been good, and I've been eating more veggies than ever in my life.

If you don't crave it don't eat it. Personally, I'm all set with "absolute" fasting but a day or two of a fruit fast can hit the spot.
