It's not always that black and white, plus who knows the exact life of a cold, here one day, gone the next.   We think we know what cures them.

Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / Re: Kidney Stress

my thoughts are that it's not the amount of protein eaten in one day, but how it is ingested.  If you read Rosedale, he has very strong opinions, beliefs, etc, on eating more protein in one meal than the body can use for maintenance and repair.  Any excess is harmful in the long run. That our energy should come primarily from fat, as opposed to excess protein being converted into glucose.  Not sure about this last sentence/glucose? In speaking with him, he came out and said that the Bear's cancer was a resultant of eating huge meat meals, and that more (cancers) would follow.  Thus he believes in spreading your protein out into at least two meals per day.  I have heard the arguments going both ways, and am sorry I can't remember the specifics regarding Rosedale's finer points to do with excesses.  Bit if choosing a one meal a day plan, one might like to look closely as to the reasons, for example;  convenience, ideas about paleo this or that, and possibly that by eating an excess in one meal leaves one not hungry enough to eat two meals a day.  Bottom line, is it working for you in the long run.   Rosedale is mostly about longevity, and says something unique;  nature or whatever didn't design us to live forever, just long enough to pass along our skills and parenting to the next generation.  His quest is looking deeper into what causes aging, and his main pointers are insulin and leptin, amongst other markers.  My impressions from having spoken with him for over three hours is that his ego is smaller than most.  Most refreshing.

If you freeze the dates,  you stop the worms from growing.  They are more like meal worms.

HI,   not sure that this number is still good,  but years ago when I ate dates,  I only bought from  The Date People  at 760 359 3211.   Jaimie had a date called Thoorey that was comparatively low in sugar, and was used by eastern peoples, you know, camel peoples, on treks.  It stores really well, and the worms are tasty.    They are in southern Ca.

I don't think you can expect people to be in 'agreement' before they come 'here'.  It's not always that easy.  You and I turned our ship around many years ago, and we had our own reasons for doing so, which are probably inherently different from everyone else's.  My suggestion would be to encourage 'them' to read up, and if in doubt then, to ask specific questions that may help their fears of eating raw or animal.   It took me five years visiting Instincto in France before I'd consider eating raw meat,   and then I saw someone eating a plate of raw fat, boy did I have some inner opinions...   With Charles,  well, it was if he was looking for a fight.  I don't think we want that said about us here.   Maybe some of the other regulars can help curtail pro cooked vegan writings as well.  All the best,   Van

the softer marrows get absorbed, or so it seems.  But I like clay, which I keep already in wet form in glass jar, to cleanse.  And, lot's of warm water.

soft bone marrow, or back fat works well, just rub it in your hands till soft and then rub it in where you want.  Sometimes, I will add lemon juice on top for scent, depending on whom I am with.

my inclusion about age has only to do with insulin sensitivity which for most increases with age, especially if carbs are the fuel source.  That is the only sweeping generalization that I made.  Any others were my own reactions.

I too feel that at times you are too quick to draw...  some people like myself, to learn something new, appreciate learning why, and that is done sometimes by posting what we do believe in the moment and asking others to find what's 'wrong' with it.  Otherwise it can be simple blind  belief, and we all know where that got us.

Del Fuego's claims as to why pemican healed his wife, and why he reaped such gains in part was due to how digestible pemican was and how little was left undigested to keep alive other organisms like candida, lymes etc.  I think that there's a good chance that this is true.  Although I don't have experience myself,  for I can't get myself to render fat to make it.

Tyler,  I would support Williams'  position about one's mental states when not eating carbs.  The ups and downs just aren't there.  Doesn't mean that 'we' don't process through our minds and emotions and the associated unpleasantness from that, it's just that the mental energy swings, blood sugar swings aren't there.  Before I would justify it by saying I haven't eaten ..... and have some fruit, or eat a meal.  But then, you are relatively young, and your blood sugar may still be quite stable.

I think it's completely due to the way it is.  Something to do with the way they process caratonene,  or however you spell the word.  I know for fact that it tastes far superiour  to white fat,  at least I want to think so.  No, it really is yummy.

so what do you think;  my dogs have always eaten raw organic grass fed lamb and beef and eggs.  Always.  They get tapeworm every now and then.   From where and how have they accumulated their garbage?  Same with any wild animal eating natures foods only.    With sheep, their parasite load can weaken them to the point of exhaustion. And with aging goats the same is true, for their immune system is aging also.  The worms proliferate to the point that their hair thins and dries, they lose weight, and energy drops.   Yes, the strong will live on and their offspring will be probably more resistant to parasites.

General Discussion / Re: What exactly are paleolithic forms of carbs?
« on: February 11, 2010, 10:24:20 am »
I think candida is also a major issue as regards who does well with carbs.  The longer blood sugar stays high the longer candida has to flourish.  obviously there are immune factors that play into candida.   And intestinal flora, most likely the strongest from healthy breast fed babies.        Phelps can eat whatever he wants because he exercises like no other and the fact that at his age (and exercise level) his insulin resistance is probably nil.

try comparing beef to elk and you may find as I do that it is similar.  Besides the fat content of present day beef,  my guess is that nutrient for nutrient it is similar to yesteryear.  But who's to know.   What I think we keep forgetting is what Lex mentions routinely, that is,  what we got away with when we were young is probably not the case as we age.  One very large factor is insulin resistance and the fallout when it hightens.  I think of the way I use to be able to unlimited amounts of cherries or figs or for that matter any sugary fruit.    I think most will find that after a period on zc one will then begin to taste the amount of sugar in fruits.  Before then, they simply taste pleasant or yummy.

not to sound so repetitive,  but 'they' ate and still do eat the bones of smaller animals like chickens, mice, insects, fish bones, chewed on ends of rib bones, scraped the bone fragments out with bone marrow. and when cooking came along boiled the bones with meat.

try liver flukes, or intestinal blockages from round worm.  pictures often taken of villagers or peoples in remote areas.  Once again,  I am not worried about these, well, when I came home from India after living in the foothills below a government sheep farm, and drinking the run off from the stream,  I had some concern.  But corrected the round worm, and never contracted liver flukes.  This was in the seventies.

It may be what you consider killing the host.  Try going to a medical library and look at the books on parasitology and look at some of the infested organs of humans.   It may change your opinion.

I forget his name, but the male partner of Wai, openly says he sips orange juice with added white sugar and olive oil every twenty minutes.  He said that he had to add the sugar because he couldn't get enough calories in without it.

it is an interesting phenomena, that of how wrapping paper or stacking meat turns it brown in short matter.  And I also don't care for that taste, but do like the taste of hung aged meat that's gone dark.  It's also a different color, paper brown, vs. the brown from aging.  Something is happening with the paper?
