Health / Re: Hormonal problems
« on: October 02, 2010, 01:59:44 am »
I have had gynocomastia since I was 11-12 (big puffy nipples with breast tissue underneath), and have always been conscious about how I look in a shirt. So I think I have too much aromatase activity, so I ordered some simple aromatase inhibitors from iherb, like chrysin and DIM, Although there are many compounds and foods that work. I've been trying to get to a low body fat 5-7 percent, but it's been very hard, and I'm at 10 right now so I think it's necessary to address the root cause, not the symptom which is low T.

How long has it been since you said you overtrained from exercising? Ive had that problem too and could not workout for nearly 2 months from overtraining (simply no desire to lift heavy weights).  If you have elevated cortisol still from that, it could be a huge factor in your diagnosis. I don't know the full story, but I recommend some sort of adaptogenic herb. Also how would you rate your drive to exercise? Do you feel as fresh as you did before?

Rhiodiola Rosea - very good for the adrenals, and the entire HPA axis, which is often devastated from overtraining
-stimulating in low dose, sedative in high dose
Ashwagandha - another adaptogen for restoring the HPS axis, but a gentler less stimulating one
Reishi
Ginseng - supposed to be a stimulating tonic herb to balance hormones
Tribulus - boosts the testosterone more than any other herb, almost, but could be too stimulating, I've had roid rage on it and I don't know if that's helpful if your HPA axis is down.

Make sure to get in the right fats. I eat plenty of cheese now because I feel really amazing when I do. When I eat less saturated fat and too much plant fats I do not feel nearly as good.

If you go to a local herb shop, you can probably get a decent amount of any of those herbs. I got an ounce of cut up rhodiola root for 4 bucks and it lasted about 2 weeks for making tea everyday.

I'd recommend mindandmuscle.com/forum - they could give you more details on how to solve your problem based on the chemistry of everything, but they're not into healing through diet, so they'll recommend drugs.

Exercise / Bodybuilding / Re: anyone doing leangains method with RPD?

I love his method of a 16 hour fast, it makes a lot of sense and is very easy to fast for only 16 hours if 8 come from sleep. It tends to happen naturally in me, or if I eat a big dinner, or if I eat a very low carb dinner, then I think my body puts itself into ketosis much quicker.
I tried 18 hour fasts on my own, and I lost a lot of muscle, I was raw vegan however (beegan actually) SO I'm sticking to 14-16 hour fasts now, which is like waking up and waiting only a couple hours before eating. But I stop the fast once my mental energy starts to dwindle, i think this is when ketosis is stopping. After fasting for sometime after waking, say an hour, I feel an abundance of mental energy on occasion and I think that is ketosis .. .

For only 4 workouts, that is pretty good. But I have built 10-13 lbs of muscle in 6 weeks while I was raw vegan (actually beegan, lots of bee pollen), but I lifted 2-4 times a week, but I changed up the muscle groups so that I could still supercompensate. And my abs were visibly more defined so I know I lost fat. Problem with being vegan was when I started to cut (foolishly), there is such little protein in the diet that I immediately lose muscle mass. It sucks. Now I think someone posted here they gained 10 lbs in a week, that is extraordinary, and is something I'm looking to do on this diet

yeah I noticed beef is easy, but chicken thighs were impossible raw. I heard the breast is easier so I will try that. I have some haddock (very easy to chew), and highly marbled organic beef right now for dinner.

Yes I think distance from the equator definitely tells something about what we are meant to eat. I am indian, so I think i'll do well on some fruit/veggies and some meat.

So do you eat any cooked animal products? I tried eating raw chicken and it was not possible, so I baked it for 20 minutes and I felt increased energy, and it went down quite well.

I'm so glad this forum exists; i've been eating raw food vegan for the past year (not entirely vegan due to bee products), but now my instincts are saying, eat meat. SO right now I'm eating some slow roasted angus beef, and raw turkey meat. I am really liking the consistency of the raw turkey, but the cooked beef is harder to chew actually. I'm totally new to eating raw meat, and can't wait to start reading more posts on this forum. I also read the Genotype Diet, and Dr. D'Adamo mentions how you can tell if you are meant to eat meat by the shape of the front bicuspids. Shovel-shaped bicuspids are an indicator that meat will go down well. SO i haven't eaten flesh in 1 year, and right now I'm a little antsy to see what happens after consuming raw and cooked flesh. Can't wait
