Primal Diet / What to drink if there's no raw milk?
« on: July 27, 2010, 04:26:15 am »
Hey AP Primal Dieters,

I have a question.  If I'm away from home and I don't have access to my raw milk, what's the next best substitute....or lesser of evils to have that milk-like experience.  Please pick from the below choices.

1) Organic Pasturized Milk?
2) Rice Milk?
3) Soy Milk?
4) Almond Milk?

Help!  I've been having trouble achieving high meat maturation.  I usually cut up some sirloin or london broil, put it in my large glass ball jar, then place that in my clear, air-tight dry food container (see link below) and it usually only takes a 2-3 days for it to get a decent "high" smell and then I put it in the fridge and it continues to age slowly.  But lately I've been doing this for a week and the meat is barely smelly.  I'm wondering if the meat I get has been frozen at one time thereby killing the essential baby bacteria that eventually becomes the "high" in high meat.

I'm buying grass-fed meat from Whole Foods, which they tell me has never been frozen.  Do you think they might be lying?  Has anybody had similar experiences?

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I also just heard through the grapevine that Aajonus Vonderplanitz eats a few raw eggs before and after a cooked meal.

General Discussion / Actions to take after the occasional cooked meal
« on: July 06, 2010, 04:39:02 am »
Hey RPD'ers...any tips on what to do after eating a traditional cooked meal?  I realize after a few months on Raw Paleo that I need one or two traditional cooked meals a week or else I go totally nuts.

Any tips for cleaning out the dead meat and minimal carbs like bread or corn chips?  I'm assuming eating a bunch of raw veggies like carrots or celery is a good idea.  And since we're on the subject, what are your feelings about Psyllium Husk for cleansing?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey KD, I air the meat at least once every 24 hours while aging it outside the fridge.  Say more about the "bad" bacteria you mentioned.

I figured out a quicker high meat technique that doesn't require weeks in the fridge.  I took the quart sized mason jar half-filled with meat and simply placed it in a 4.2 quart "clickclack" container which is airtight.  It only took 24-72 hours for the meat to turn colors and funky smelling.

I usually leave the mason jar/clickclack setup out of the fridge for 24 hours and then put the mason jar in the fridge to slow down the growth as it were.

I've had no problem whatsoever with flies.

Here's an amazon link for the Click Clack container.  I purchased it at Gracious Home a small department store near where I work in NYC.

Hot Topics / Hangover treatment recommendations?
« on: June 13, 2010, 04:48:59 pm »
I know there's no real "cure" for a hangover. You're body is basically recuperating from toxins...but...does anybody have any hangover treatment ideas for during and/or the morning after some drinking...from a Raw Paleo perspective?

I've read it's good to drink a big glass of water between each drink which I did.

Health / Depression ? Can I use this diet to get off my meds?
« on: June 09, 2010, 05:42:26 am »
I know there was a thread on this before but it'd be great to get some fresh input.  I'm thinking between this raw paleo diet and eating high-meat I can get off my meds.  Has anyone had good results in this area of health?

I take a very low dose of Effexor XR for depression.  37.5 mg.  I've tried to go off a few years ago but was absolutely miserable. But that was before I was doing this Raw Paleo.

Also, I'm about a month into the Raw Paleo and in some ways I feel great, better than before, in other ways I'm more tired.  Have anyone found they feel worse in the short term but stick it out to really get the benefits long term.

Lastly, I wonder if I should stop eating fresh raw coconut cream I make with my green power juicer.  It's so tasty and I eat a few tablespoons a day, but I wonder if it's de-toxing me too much and contributing to my depression and anxiety.

Primal Diet / Re: Planning to ask the following things from Aajonus

Hey Kokki, I'm assuming you did a phone consultation with Aajonus?  If so, what did he charge?  And thanks for reporting back to us.  I'm sure it's okay.

In order to speed things up, what about keeping the jar sealed but just NOT in the fridge?  Doesn't bacteria like warmth to grow?  And you won't get flies laying eggs because the jar is sealed.  I'm kind of chompin' at the bit to get my meat "high".

FYI, I've recently been turned onto Aajonus Vonderplanitz' Primal Diet so it's so cool to have found this forum.  Sometimes I feel like someone's going to lock me up in a loony bin for eating all this raw meat...especially chicken.  And I just love raw dairy.
