Sabertooth, thanks for your insightful views and very interesting posts! I have enjoyed reading through most of them (and on other topics).

Recently I got a butcher to get me some raw beef thyroid from a healthy animal. Unfortunately he didn't know which part of the glands in the neck was the thyroid exactly so he just cut all the parts from the neck and packaged it for me. I was hoping you might be identify it for me? Some of it is the thymus I believe and the other part is the thyroid. My assumption is that the smaller thingy is the thyroid.

Thanks

I seem to do MUCH better with cooked veggies and tubers than raw ones, they really really help my digestion. I eat them away from my meat though and after my meat and at night, otherwise I have problems with them mixing badly and causing digestive problems. Raw veggies don't agree with me that wonderfully.

Lolz. It was a helluva long time ago, but ye :P The raw meat put a huge strain. The fish probably wasn't fresh. The meat thing could possibly be psychological if you're a vegan... who knows. I had INSANELY good sense of smell when I was a vegan and my friend who got me into raw meat eating always stank when i was in the car with him. Somehow I think it might have to do with bacteria also. Apparently bacteria can interact with your thoughts and determine what you like and don't like. If you don't eat meat you won't have much bacteria that like to eat meat in your obdy...

Sounds like a panic attack to me too. It's been nearly 3 years for me since it started. I've also had and still have weird sensations in my head that noone can explain that moves around. Also i get weird feelings when i yawn...like liquid is moving around my skull and i've had other bizaare feelings. I've thought i've had cancer,ms,diabetes and every exotic disorder you can think of at one time or another. I don't know what it is but there's no use worrying about it. The panic attacks and anxiety can cause some of the strangest most unexplained symptoms a person can experience.i used to also get panic attacks completely out of the blue without any linkable cause. I found the linden method to be somewhat helpful as well as seeing an eft practitioner and all the normal health things like sunlight etc. Having faith in something bigger than yourself helps a lot also. You're on this journey for a reason to learn something... You are experiencing this for a reason even if it's awful. It will make you a better person and you will find your way. Surrendering yourself to the moment is a powerful tool as well.

Does anyone have any decent links showing the dangers of birth control pills? A friend of mine's little sister is being forced on it by her parents. She's 14 years old and might have to suffer a lifetime of gut dysbiosis etc. due to this, so we'd like to show the parents some good information and write ups about it before they jump head first into this decision.

There's not too many good articles out there that I could find, but if someone possibly has one saved on their harddrive please paste it here!

are you trying to eat paleo or raw paleo? I also struggle with raw paleo... The taste is very difficult for me to get used too. Normal Paleo eating is not difficult...do you cook? Just start by always eating a paleo breakfast. Once you've done that for a while always eat a paleo lunch. You get my drift. You don.t have to be perfect from the start. Just be perfect for breakfast and allow yourself to eat whatever you want the rest of the time. This will make sure you don.t feel trapped but are moving in the right direction nevertheless. Be patient with yourself and you will get where you want to go.

I did all my detoxes first, then raw vegan, then fasting, then raw fruitarian, then raw paleo diet.
None of it was intentional.
I just bumbled and stumbled along.

Hey Geoff. How much fruit do you eat per day on average?

I don't eat much raw food at the moment but still enjoy reading these forums. I managed nearly 2 weeks of full on 100% raw in August last year. My girlfriend and I are no longer together but at the time the raw food seriously freaked her out. My breath stank most of the time and I think the increased bacterial load gave me some body odour. One time I ate some raw fish with my hands and my whole body just stank like fish, lol. My body hadn't had a chance to adjust yet I'm assuming with regards to body odour. It made it very difficult for me to carry on with the diet and was putting a serious strain on our relationship despite her trying to understand. She supported me as much as she was able to, but it wasn't easy for her, especially since she's a vegetarians. I was a vegan for a while as well, and I noticed it was difficult for me to be around heavy meat eaters as they stank really foul to me, I also couldn't walk past the butchery section of supermarkets without wanting to gag. I think it was similar for her.

I can confirm that the Ostrich is not grass fed at all. It is completely grain fed and they are kept in feeding pen thingies, like other animals. A friend of mine has done the research about the woolworths foods. By the way I would be very very careful with raw chicken from Woolworths if you ever in the mood to try it. I got horribly sick one time eating it.

With regards to eggs, buy the free range pick n pay eggs rather than woolworths. They seem to be of a higher quality. The woolworth eggs' yolk is completely yellow while the pick n pay ones are a deep orange (which is a sign of good quality I'm told).

I live in Cape Town and by going to various farmers markets and asking around I've managed to get some good sources of meat. I order half a sheep once a month (it's about 10kg) for R48/kilogram from a health shop in Somerset West. It's free range and no antibiotics etc. The meat is absolutely fantastic, and I get all the different cuts like ribs and necks and leg etc.

There is this other guy who I order all my grassfed beef from, who I met at the old biscuit mill market that runs on a SAturday. It's a lot cheaper than woolworths and million times better quality. I literally never buy woolworths beef or chicken anymore. This guy's chickens are amazing, they are super strong and awesome. You can just see by the size of their bones and their bone structure that they are far superior. My sister bought some free range woolworths mince the other day and we made a bolognaise from it. The quality difference is ridiculous, it tasted horrendous compared to what I'm used to now. We have some good meat in South Africa, but need to try find out where to get it! This guy has gotten me beef hearts, kidney, liver, lamb liver, lamb brains, bone marrow, suet and muscle fat (R5 per kilogram for fat lol), and various other cuts of meat. His brisket is only R42 per kg. You can eat cheap if you know the right people. I'll find out from him if he knows anyone in Gauteng that gets meat from the farm like he does.

Sheesh, that was not easy. I feel like such a wimp!

250g beef ribs ground up and a bit of lamb fat ground up and I buckle like a weakling before the prospect! I HATE the taste. I ate most of it raw but cooked the last bit rare with some tallow. It tastes alright not ground up, straight off the bone, but then it takes me ages and ages to eat it and my teeth and gums get sore after a while (something I hope this diet will help heal). Nearly everyone one of my teeth has had a cavity in it at some point or another and I'm missing 3 teeth (but have thingies that act as replacements).

Either I should just eat it off the bone for now even if I end up eating a lot less and see what happens with my teeth or I should eat what I can raw. Eat my egg yolks raw and all the organs raw, as well as trying like 100g of raw muscle meat for breakfast to help me getting used to it while cooking the rest. Something to think about...

Tomorrow, if I don't chicken out I'll try some high meat again.

I am stating my intention to try eat fully raw again from tomorrow! I have learnt a lot since my last post and have a good supplier of grass fed beef now. I can also get hold of duck eggs, bone marrow, duck liver, lamb liver, beef heart, beef tongue, lamb brains and some other stuff!

I also have some high meat that is nearly a month old. I have been eating a largely paleolithic diet for the last while and have been doing pretty well (barring a 1 month long near disaster stint with Matt Stone's high everything diet). I think my metabolism is more suited to eating fat now and I have been eating 50g or less of carbs per day pretty much for the last month or so. I had some extremely tired days and my performance/energy still isn't brilliant but I'm hoping high meat and the raw meat will help that :)

For me the biggest thing is enjoying the taste of raw food. I really don't enjoy the taste of pretty much any raw meat plain. I can get it down using drinking water to swallow. The swallowing part seems to be hard for me some reason. Haha. I ate some 3 week old "high meat" (not quite high I know) and it wasn't that bad. Anyways, I can handle small amounts of raw meat but have difficulties eating as much as I should.

I know now that I can be ok, eating large amounts of animal foods and fats, whether they are raw or not. This is now my raw experiment ... I'm aiming for 20 days but will be happy if I manage 14 days. I'm looking forward to experiencing high meat.

I also have a friend who is very much into this way of eating now :) He tried a week long zero carb stint and has been eating 90% raw for the last month or so. We order our meats from the same guy. Having a buddy helps a lot!

Tomorrow I will be having some lamb fat, beef ribs and egg yolks as well as a little bit of fruit before I go to sleep. On friday I'm receiving half a sheep to share with my friend. We'll see how it goes !:)

... On the progress side of things. I've been off the antidepressants and anxiolytics since end May this year ... nearly 6 months, which is a first for me since all troubles began a few years back. My cranial sacral therapist said to me last week that my system feels many times better than when I first met him last year. I also got a massive release in my cranial sacral system last week, where I noticeably felt a release and tingling throughout my whole body for 10 minutes. I have been coughing up a lot of green and yellow mucus since though. Maybe a detox, or maybe just an infection, who knows. I do still get depressed and anxious but overall feel a lot better.

Pity you can't use the HCL supplements. They really do work. Perhaps try importing from another country?

Otherwise the most natural way would be high meat I guess. Some other members have noted it greatly improving their digestion. I've only tried it once but will be trying it again shortly. A few more days until it's been going for a month.

How do we know that those particular bacteria are in high meat? It would be fascinating to look at it under a microscope and to see exactly what bacteria are present.

Tomorrow I want to try some more high meat. Today when I aired it out the one jar made a loud popping sound. I forgot to air it out yesterday and the day before but did it at least 90% of days before that. Can this be dangerous with regards to anaerobic bacteria/botulism and stuff like that?

Today I didn't eat any high meat because I knew I was going to eat cooked food. Is this a mistake? Can one eat high meat and cooked food on the same day without becoming sick? I eat most of my meat very rare cooked anyway... Struggling to enjoy completely raw meat at this point but I've come a long way if I think back a year or two where I couldn't even eat my meat rare.

I know it's not completely high yet but the average person would never ever ever in a million years eat that lamb. It STINKS and normal people would say it's beyond rotten.

I had like 2 hours yesterday of elevated mood and a bit of euphoria where it felt like my inhibitions were slightly lowered. Don't know if it has anything to do with the meat or not. Placebo effect? Time will tell :) At least I didn't get sick or anything.

This high meat that I'm brewing has been going since October 30. It is leg of lamb cut up into small pieces. It progressed extremely fast I must say! It stinks like the smells that come from the harbour when the wind is blowing in my direction. The outside also started to go green all around, although you can't see it because I seperated the pieces with a fork. I have 2 jars going at the same time of the same type of meat. I made 2 jars so that I can sample the one jar as it goes along. Today is the first day that I tried some (a small piece). I want to sample a small piece every day and then when it's been fermenting a month I'll increase the "dose" until I feel something happening. Hopefully I'll keep you guys posted. I ate the first piece about an hour ago and I haven't noticed too much yet.

I'm actually quite scared of eating it so I made 2 jars. Starting from friday I'll eat one piece a day from the one jar to get used to the idea and see that I don't get sick etc. I'm hoping that by 4 weeks it will be "ready" and start giving me the good benefits.

This guy goes on and on about cooking ... but the idea that we have a brain in our gut lends a lot of credence to the ideas of high meat etc... I have some high meat brewing in my fridge at the moment that's a week and a half old. It's growing (or decomposing) very rapidly. Looking forward to seeing if it does anything when it's ready!

I really think you'll find the magnesium tremendously beneficial. I see some of your thoughts and thought processes in my own and a lot of it is just the anxiety talking. If your bowels can't handle magnesium glycinate then go crazy with the transdermal form and defnitely take lots of epson salt baths. You can do this while eating the fruit. It will relax you tremendously i promise.  Just do it properly and give it a week to work.

I've found that getting about an hour of sunlight per day extremely beneficial (I think it might take a few weeks to work but after that you can really feel the difference). The sunlight resets your circadian rhythm and gets your body to produce melatonin at the right time. I've heard vitamin d also helps synthesis certain neurotransmitters which I'm assuming will help you sleep and lower the stress.

I second the opinion on magnesium. I'm taking transdermal magnesium and defnitely have found it to be very relaxing. Eventually I'd like to live without supplements but I'm finding the magnesium too beneficial at the moment.
