General Discussion / Raw Meat College?
« on: October 27, 2011, 09:43:02 am »
Hey guys. Transferring from community college to a real college next fall. Although you make like two friends at community college, the good thing about it is that I can stuff raw meat into my face before I drive to school in the comfort of my own home.

Thus, I'm not really sure where to go to school where it would allow me the same freedom. What do you recommend? I need constant, reliable sources of raw meat every day.

I was thinking just going to a 4 year commuter school even though it would suck just to maintain the diet. Any recommendations, or good areas/schools on the east coast or west coast where there are plentiful sources of grass fed beef?

This was originally a TV show, but was edited down for theatrical release.  The shortened version probably works better, because the show did get a little dull at times.  i recommend it even if you have no idea who these brits are.

We need the help of organic iodine extracts.
We should extract the iodine from the kelp so we get organic iodine.
Barefoot Herbalist MH makes tree iodine extracts.

Good for AAjonus he can digest dairy, his diet is 60% dairy, which I cannot follow so I'll have to take my chances with other raw animal foods.

So according to Aajonus, if we eat lots of dairy then the radiation will go away. But since most milk now is showing signs of having iodine contamination, would the dairy even detox at all if it itself is radioactive?

Also, which do you guys think is worse: Eating radioactive raw grassfed meat, or eating organic non contaminated cooked grains.

"Fresh milk and creamy cheeses, as well as meat from cattle that have been outside eating grass, are categorised as foods that may have been indirectly contaminated and must also be monitored."

Heres the article:

Health / Re: Insomnia & RPD
« on: February 27, 2011, 06:39:07 am »
Hi.  Is your dad following the same diet as you?  Have either one of you gotten a migraine?  I know tyramine is in bananas and yogurt.  Red wine and cheese, just the smell of either used to give me a migraine.  They too have tyramine.  There must be charts on line to figure out if meat could possibly make tyramine.  Are you eating red meat or white?  Do you eat nuts and seeds?  I find nuts interfere with sleep.  What are the effects of your insomnia?  How old are you?  What gender?  I don't have to know, just wondering if it has correlation.

20, male. nah, he doesn't eat rpd at all haha. I wake up multiple times during the night. Usually fall asleep ok.
How late do you eat your last meal? When do you go to bed?

If I eat anything after 6 PM, it will make a huge difference for me and my sleep.

Ever since I started eating my last meal around 4 PM, my insomnia seems to basically disappear.

Last time I ate a meal at 8 PM, I couldn't get a minute of sleep all night.

I still have problems with sleep, like not sleeping deep enough, long enough or waking up feeling hungover, but not eating at night has made a big difference for me.

yeah, thats a good idea. I'll try to eat earlier.

A female member of another raw forum complained that after eating "high-meat" in the evenings she felt so wired-up and awake that she couldn't get to sleep. It was suggested by another member  that she only eat "high-meat" in the mornings. There was no suggestion that this had to do with migraines/tyramine, but with the fact that the bacteria in "high-meat" boost serotonin in one's brain which enhances concentration/mood etc.

yeah I only eat high meat in the mornings, I usually have fish and olive oil for dinner or something.

Your mind-body complex may require additional foods that are not stimulating or hot (by Chinese and Ayurvedic standards).  These include greens and or fruits.  I would start off with low carb veggies ery

yeah I eat a lot of fruit earlier in the day.

Its hard to eat earlier/exercise because I'm at college all day and have to commute back. =\

thanks for the suggestions guys

I have really bad insomnia problems that didn't go away from eating raw meat/ high meat for a year. I was wondering, would high meat be contributing to my insomnia? My dad says migraines are linked to insomnia, so he showed me a sheet which shows foods not to consume, and it says "aged cheese, wine, pickled products, etc." because they contain tyramine, which I also read bad things about elsewhere on the board in relation to it being in avocados and stuff.

Does anyone know if theres any connection? Does high meat have this stuff?

thanks

GM alfalfa and other potential GM grasses are different than soybeans and whatnot because they are perrenial, and since its a grass theres no way it can be contained sufficiently. There's a lot of reason to believe this is going to cause massive DNA pollution. Monsanto wants farms to be contaminated, to sue them and shut them down. Its what they've been doing for years.

I've been trying to ignore the implications of what GM alfalfa's approval will mean for grass-fed organic meat, but when I read this paragraph it hit me that the days of eating non GM contaminated raw paleo (at least in America) are going to be over relatively soon.

"Alfalfa is the main forage crop for dairy cows and one of the principle foods for beef cows, especially grass-fed cattle. Alfalfa is a perennial, easily lasting five years once planted. And it's bee-pollinated, which means each year, every non-GE alfalfa plant within five miles of every GE alfalfa plant will likely be contaminated by GE genes." ( http://www.alternet.org/food/149716/why_you_can_now_kiss_organic_beef%2C_dairy_and_many_vegetables_goodbye/ )

I guess we all have to get cancer someday.  ;)

There are some positives to it, though. We won't have have to avoid eating GM foods when going out with friends because it won't matter anymore.

1. Ikiru (Akira Kurosawa was the master of every genre known to man. This list would probably include four more Kurosawa's if I thought about it.)
2. Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion (You would most likely have to see the television show this was based on to understand what the hell was happening.  As it's an alternate ending to the series.  The series is pretty mediocre half the time though.)
3. Army of Shadows
4. Strotszeck  (Long live the American Dream! ;D)
5. The Big Lebowski

No matter what happens, we are at an advantage.
Remember that most of the diseases we see today are new as of the past 50 years
The people who have them will not be around for much longer. Most of these people are in the positions of power that threaten us.
I doubt they will last many more generations.
Eventually there will only be healthy people left and government regulation will be powerless.
That comforts me in a weird way, of course if I lose my current food source, I will go live in the forest. So worry is little.

miles and TD, I am more worried about you guys, as that option is not available for you in the UK.

Good Sam seems to be in an awesome position. I don't think Manila has much reason to worry quality food seems to be valued by more people.

yeah but again we can't think of this like its us RPers against the world, and that our lifestyle will continue no matter what.

First of all, GM is likely already contaminating the woods, from animals/ insects eating GM from our garbage, waste, farms and gm plant pollen and seeds landing there. Obama is also planning with his "Evergreen Revolution" to actually create huge open areas of GM trees for paper cultivation and other uses. What will happen to the animals in the forest when they eat this stuff? Some GM trees don't even stand upright, they just hang limp. Making nature impotent. How symbolic.

Secondly, what about the new diseases that come from interspecies DNA exchange? Who knows if anyone, even RPs, can defend themselves against some super-disease that results?

Thirdly, I don't think that saying that the old people that control our society are going to die out from being unhealthy is accurate. I am certain that the very wealthy, the people whose faces we'll never see, know a little bit more about health than we give them credit for. Just because we see celebrities and movie stars dying of cancer doesn't mean the people with real power don't know what they're doing.

Just reading this from an article on Slankers makes me a little suspicious:

"I talked to a professional businessman at Monsanto.  He explained how disturbing it was to be the target of an angry public that believed Monsanto (its upper level management team of which he’s a member) is disreputable to the core."

It's a movie review of "Food Inc," and he asks him about the public's response to the company:

"The mob literally assaulted the company by various means with mountains of hate mail.
I asked the Monsanto man what he learned from this experience.  He said it showed him there is a great need in our country for mothers and fathers, and teachers too, to teach children to be critical thinkers. "

Where the hell is this BS coming from? Since when does Monsanto encourage these kind of values? Slankers man is either falling into a trap, or this mysterious Monsanto executive buys bulk grassfed meat from him to eat raw with his little minions.

So I don't think these problems will be solved if we just sit around. Saying that "we'll be fine b/c we're RP" ignores the responsibility we have as informed people to inform other people or try to change societies processes in some way.

Slanker's Food Inc. review is predicated on the idea that all the problems of the agribusiness and food industry stem from the consumer's poor diet choices. Let's not fall into a similar trap.

Let's keep fighting by informing more and doing lobby action.
Can I quote you on my blog?
Maybe that will help somewhat inspire a few more lobby people and congressmen.

sure. we need to break out of the bullshit age of online petitions.

don't you worry about that.  there is way plenty of clean animals for both raw and cooked meat eaters.
regular Joes are pretty happy with supermarket meat.  don't let this one keep you awake at night.

yeah, but i'm not sure its that simple. We can't view us RPers as being off in this little protected box isolated from everyone else's eating habits. Grassfed meat needs to be become the norm, not just for a small group.
Corporate greed and humanity's continued belief that it can master and control nature does piss me off. However, I don't think it is all bad news. People are becoming more aware of these issues every day. First of all I doubt grass fed farms will be shut down. The worst that could happen is that business becomes more difficult. Also, respectable ranchers can make sure that the herd is not contaminated with GM DNA. The thing I am more concerned about is GMO seafood since fish escaping into the wild and polluting the gene pool is a scary possibility. They say all the fish are sterile but I'm still not comfortable with the idea even if the operations are inland. It just takes one mistake... Just one.

yeah but how far can you really go to preventing GM DNA from spreading on an open range? These GM crops have been in open air for 15 years now, there's no way to prevent eventual contamination, just like whats happening with organic farms losing their certification. The cow's DNA can change just from grazing on contaminated grass or something.

I like the bluntness of this quote from a seed catalog that was lying around my house:
"In the future we may expect transgenic traits to escape from GE plants and pass by natural means into traditional and heirloom plants. Eventually, the entire food supply may become modified, and none of us will have any choice in the matter."

General Discussion / The Raw Paleo Blues
« on: January 02, 2011, 02:49:54 am »
With the creation of the Food Safety Act and the continued GM contamination of the environment, it kind of seems to me that real Raw Paleo diet will not be able to sustain itself for much longer for many people. Obviously, one can't eat RP when grass-fed farms are shut down, and even if you can eat grass-fed meat, eventual GM contamination will pollute the water or land of domesticated and wild animals.

My depression doesn't really stem from there not being real meat avaiable eventually, but mainly from the fact that I discovered the Raw Paleo diet. If I had never went on this diet and stuck to my previous one of mostly cooked organic food, I would never have really even known what feeling good is. After I ate my first piece of raw meat I was actually like, "Oh, this is what being alive is supposed to feel like." I wasn't ecstatic or anything, it was just a simple realization that for most of my previous life I always felt some degree of shittiness, and now I finally felt "OK," normal.

But now that I've reached that point, the future seems downhill, and I kind of wish I never found RP, because I'm afraid of being plunged back into sickness, anxiety and depression, when GM food contaminates all.

What does everyone else think about this? Anyone have the RP Blues as I've described it?

I thought I was safe because I got my chicken from Slankers : http://www.texasgrassfedbeef.com/pastured_chicken.htm. But I guess not...it makes me question their other products. I really wish I had access to wild game because that is truly the only way to be absolutely sure the animal was raised properly...unless of course you own some livestock and raise it yourself.

I had to go the emergency health care clinic because i was getting too dehydrated due to running to the toilet every 30 mins for the last 24 hours. Explaining that I intentionally ate raw chicken was an interesting experience and the doctors seemed to act very condescending after that. They injected me with antibiotics, gave me a prescription for more antibiotics and told me to eat the BRAT diet (Bananas Rice Apple Sauce Toast). Right now I'll probably follow it a bit since I've completely lost my appetite for raw meat at the moment. Hopefully I'll be back to raw next week...though everybody in my family is giving me the "Told you so!" routine after warning me of the dangers of consuming raw meat.

don't know if eating raw meat so quickly after antibiotics is a good idea. if you get sick again from something, you're immune system won't be able to handle it. maybe just take some probiotics for a little while.

if you want I have a quarter - half dose of paragone that i never used. that should help you out until you get access to some parasitic herbs or something. PM me.

i don't know if thats the worm your reffering to.

wild salmons supposed to have like 99% chance of having parasites or something. why not just eat a low risk fish like tuna or something?

General Discussion / portable containers to keep meat cold?
« on: August 22, 2010, 09:12:08 am »
Just wondering what kind of containers people use to bring meat with them to work or whatever.

I'm going to start commuting to college in a week and I'm gonna be stuck at the place for 10 straight hours, with the only stuff on the menu there being nachos and fast-food burgers.

Are there any particularly good cold storage lunchpacks or something? And how well do they work? thanks

« on: August 20, 2010, 05:58:44 am »
I gained about 10 lbs in a month after I started doing half raw paleo. You have to stay constantly aware of when your stomach is empty so you can add more food in whenever possible. Timing your eating right helps too...what I do is...fruits first, then broth, then raw eggs, then raw meat. If I have to eat cooked meat I try to eat it towards the evening when I know I'm not going to be eating anything the rest of the night anyway, because itll stay in my stomach for 3 or 4 hours.

Also, do belly breathing after eating for digestion. it'll speed it up so you can eat more food.

I don't know though, it takes some energy out of me to eat so much. I'm 19, i dont know if eating constantly is suitable for an older person.

kidney stones can be caused by excess protein, which seems like it could be a problem on a paleo diet. do a search for kidney stones on the forum, you should find some information.

I remember reading on another forum someone saying that they were drinking tons of raw dairy and felt great for a couple of months, but eventually got sick and started seeing a lot of blood in their stool.. also Fiji water is probably bullshit tap water, that might have something to do with it; drinking from a plastic bottle with PCBs won't help. I know my aunt gets really bad bladder problems from drinking tap in NYC, and they're supposed to have pretty clean tap water even.

« on: August 01, 2010, 11:13:26 pm »
I was reading around on the wai diet page's forum that any milk, even raw cow's milk, has extremely large amounts of natural estrogens.

According to this list the phytoestrogen count of milk is pretty low compared to the other foods, but what about the naturally occurring estrogens from the cows being bred to milk constantly?

Does anyone have any info on this, and whether it poses the same danger as phytoestrogens?
