i agree...

but hey why not be healthy, be functionally strong, and if you want do some exercise to look good as well.

i really feel plenty of primitive people would be quite lean and muscular depending on the season... hunting without guns is tough work i'd imagine and a good workout.

Exercise / Bodybuilding / the importance of exercise
« on: November 20, 2010, 10:14:00 pm »
i've spent alot of time reading about many people experiences following raw animal food diets and one thing which always surprises me is the lack of exercise on the part of some people.

i really don't understand this. it has been shown time and time again that humans have evolved doing intense exercise and that it is awesome for health.

since online ordering and butcheries didn't exist back then, i wonder how many of these people feel that they would have obtained their meat in the wild by sitting on their asses?

i really don't think that you can fully experience all the benefits of whatever diet philosophy you follow if you do not exercise intensely at least once or twice a week.

does anyone have any advice for eating raw tongue? i have seen cooked recipes which say to blanch the tongue in boiling water in order to take off the skin. do you guys just eat everything like that?

General Discussion / salt purges?

anyone have any opinions on these? some friend of mine seem to swear by them but i have doubts.

basically it involves dissolving a few teaspoons of salt in water and drinking it. supposed to be detoxifying/cleansing

probably why intermittent fasting seems to work so well. for me anyway :) i have to disagree that they would always be living from hand to mouth, i think that would only happen in certain seasons and also depends where you lived. for example in one or two episodes of bear grylls survival show it looked like he could have lived forever off the land just fine, but its probably true you wouldnt be able to follow it exactly as we do now, you'd have to go with whatever you could find or kill. probably a good thing for variety ;)

naaw you dont have to warmup for pullups , i never do and never had any problems. even weight training its not essential but probably best.

i don't actually think bicep curls mimic anything no offense ;p they are the most useless exercise out there. at least do plate curls then and work your grip/wrists too ;) the other exercises you do are more in alignment with your ideas about whats natural.

i agree with pelham32 if you study the body and see what the muscle or group of muscles is designed to do then you can determine the optimal ways to train it.

also depends what your goals are. if you want to become insanely strong then unfortunately you have to do the so called "unnatural" stuff ;)

thats fair ;) i guess if i had better access to either of those i would do that sometimes instead of pullups too.

although one of my goals is the one arm pullup

you could argue the same for martial arts then, who says we evolved to do them either? :) doing a few sets of pullups anyway is nowhere near the same as climbing trees all day

"I prefer resistance band and hammer motion over pull ups because were not meant to be tree bound like monkeys for our biceps. Were meant to work on the GROUND, building, breaking, sharpening items and tearing things."

i think we're meant to do anything we want. your muscles only understand resistance. there are of course more and less functional ways to train. pullups though are really functional and the results and strength they give prove how effective they are. one of the best bicep exercises there is ;)

ive actually always managed to gain muscle just fine while intermittent fasting, i guess maybe im not a hard gainer, but i generally just have a huge meal at night and it seems to work fine. i mainly eat according to my appetite. the last 3 weeks especially ive noticed an increase in appetite and size ever since moving up to more difficult bodyweight exercises.

what about herbal teas like rooibos (grown only in south africa). i understand they are heated but surely they can still give you positive benefits from all the antioxidants or is that just a myth? rooibos tea is said to have a ton of antioxidants.

yeah. his style was a mish mash of arts. but he took what was good from each art like scully said. and tried to simplify as much as possible

well i'm jealous of the fact that you guys in the philippines and alike have plenty of different and exotic fruits to choose from and fish too. we get lots of types of fish here too but most are pretty expensive. grass is always greener on the other side? hehe.

i must say namibia (country north of south africa) where i grew up is said to have some of the best meat in the world. all the meat there is grass fed. its really good. you just walk into any shop and can buy grass fed beef, lamb, etc and wild game is even more plentiful. and its cheap too.

lol lions? i think i'd stay away from eating carnivores and im a fan of cats.  ;)

some unique foods... well we get ostrich here, but i think its hard to find really good quality ostrich, most is apparently free range but they inject them with antibiotics and i think they are grain fed to a degree. so i avoid it these days.

i have had crocodile (guess it would be similar to alligator? ;p)  before but not raw. was good. i have heard you can get some hectic parasites from them. like hookworm. i'm definitely not against parasites but i think there are limits? ;) i could be wrong

all the wild game here is very delicious raw. i've had springbok, kudu, gemsbok etc.

my favorite was warthog ribs (although those were  cooked).

i have heard hippo bacon is divine i would love to get hold of some . that and water buffalo.

if you're into insects there's also mopane worms. they are a local african delicacy. cooked. but they can be eaten raw im sure. i still have to try that too.

ahh that traditional martial arts vs mma debate.

we'll never know until a proper high ranking traditional martial artist squares off with fedor or someone similar. and even then it proves nothing.

i think its the artist not the art. and i think the person that will be most successful is the one which develops his own style which suits him. we all have strengths and weaknesses.

i also feel logic dicates that since fights in reality are brutal, direct and short that a simple and direct art would be the way to go. there's power in simplicity.

bruce lee had the right idea.

just thought i'd say hi. finally joined the forums after reading various posts on topics which interest me for a while now.

ive mostly eaten the standard cooked unhealthy diet , but ever since i was 20 or so i have been researching health and diet. over time i do feel i am eating healthier and healthier except for relapses here and there. these days i probably eat about 50% cooked food. i plan to reduce that to 10-20% over the next few years.

i've never really had any health problems besides asthma as a child which thankfully i outgrew :) my motivation is purely to be as healthy as possible and the increased strength gains.

i have alot of knowledge i have accumulated over the years i just need to develop more willpower to apply it

at the moment i follow a warrior diet approach of mostly water fasting during the day. i believe for me personally i do best on a high fat diet so that's what i try and eat in the evenings. i do have a weakness for sweet things though. so its mostly fat, meat and fruit in the evenings (when im eating properly). i do tend to eat alot of junk here and there. i am phasing that out though slowly. today me and a friend got 28kg of grassfed fat. so that should last a while ;)

i am also really into strength training. mainly bodyweight stuff with some kettlebells mixed in.

thanks for the great forum guys i have learn't quite a bit just browsing around here :)
