General Discussion / Re: Teeth plaque/tartar
« on: March 20, 2020, 03:00:56 am »
Plaque is caused by bacteria that live on the thin protein layer of the teeth. They need saliva to grow and saliva glands are just behind the lower front teeth, so this is why plaque usually builds up behind the lower front teeth.

Two things that come to my mind:
  • Sugar feeds the bacteria.
  • Lack of mechanical cleaning. Either via dental tools or chewing with front teeth, especially fibrous foods. I found that on a purely carnivore diet I'd need dental tools quite often, because chewing is pretty much at a minimum.

Maybe acid helps clean the plaque, but I'm not sure, maybe someone has info on this?
Also, I've noticed that including a lot of dairy makes the plaque harder, while meats and vegetables produce soft plaque. Probably, because of the calcium.

Protein seems to be very warming for me. But I think a big aspect is also to get your energy requirements covered.

It has been re-uploaded by someone else here, if you want to watch it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxAqytqLMtY

I watched it right when it was uploaded on sv3rige, but apparently the comment section went up in flames later on.

I only have the “full experience” with sheep and their best tasting fat is by the ribs. Beef ribs are awesome too, so my guess is that it’s the same for beef.

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Re: Another failed Carnivore Attempt
« on: November 17, 2019, 02:34:14 pm »
Yeah I haven't been able to to make my diet feel optimal without doing the whole animal approach...and will go so far as to say that without a regular supply of fresh raw blood marrow, guts and organs, I wouldn't be able to make this diet work.

My diet is mostly meat and liver with some vegetables, and eventually I ran out of liver, leaving me with only muscle meat for about 2 weeks. After about one week I felt super tired and had kinda puffy eyes. That went away pretty much immediately after getting liver back in (only 30-50 g per day). Don’t know why so many carnivore advocates think that muscle meat alone is sufficient, when it’s obviously nutritionally inadequate.

Health / Re: did i catch trichinosis?
« on: October 15, 2019, 12:43:22 pm »
What makes you think it was trichinosis? It is very unlikely to get it from lamb, rather pork or bear meat.

How long and what type of raw meat have you been eating before? I did get diarrhea when I first ate cooked and then later raw meat.

Health / Re: whats the releationship between cooking foods and histamine?

“The histamine level in food has changed according to the cooking method used to prepare it. Frying and grilling increased histamine level in foods, whereas boiling had little influence or even decreased it. The boiling method might be helpful to control the effect of histamine in histamine-sensitive or susceptible patients, compared with frying and grilling.”

Maybe the discussion section is worth a read for insights on mechanisms.
