Anyone know of a safe liver supplement?
I found "Ultra Glandulars Raw Liver Concentrate."
All you can suggest as good glandular products would be so helpful  :)

Thank You!!

Hey, I didn't write "tregularlyo"! LOL

How funny  :)
don't know how i did that!

If you feel better with that approach, then why not lean towards it?

Ya, I need to stop reading some and listen to my own bodies book  l)

I've found value in AV's recommendations of easily-digestible foods, but I'm skeptical of his magical food combination claims.
It appears to depend on the individual.

okay good - it's not like scripture - so i will take it for what it is.  Also given our bodies are unique, as you have proven here along with some others.  Even though i am a girl i still find myself having similar results that you have with food.

It's somewhat random for me, but I generally do something like down a couple raw eggs, then chow down on a raw parsnip, then eat ground beef with marrow or lard or an egg yolk and sometimes some raw honey spread on top or mixed in. Sometimes I'll have some greens like watercress on the side or eat them right with the beef, the way wild chimpanzees do. ;D Sometimes I'll have mashed avocado with a couple egg yolks and a couple tsps raw honey. Avocado still make me burp, though, so they may be a suboptimal food for me. The more honey I add to avocado, the less I burp (but the more that probably contributes to my dental plaque). Lately I've also been trying bone broth, once with parsnips in it.

Phil this is really helpful!  I am glad to see you are not dogmatic and it works for you to play around some.  I was getting the feeling that in order to get my digestion where i needed it I was going to have to cut out everything but animal foods.  Animal food has helped, i just can't over do the quantity like i was trying.  Seeing how you are "combining" foods without tragic results is refreshing!
I have found red meats to digest much better than raw fish, i think it's the fat content.
Pineapple is also very good, i am glad you are handling that better.

Why do you want tregularlyo cut out all other fruits and veg?

I so don't want to unless it would help my elimination -\

based on what i have read from those who practice RAF (on this board) - the best "completed" digestion happens on LC diet of raw meat, eggs, and other fats. I have had a really hard time making "meals" out of this  :'(
And definitely not digesting this diet with comfort and ease.
I did "dive in" to the LC RAF for 1/2 week then really felt the need to have a nice steamed sweet potato tossed into a raw zucchini, apple, ginger salad topped with egg yolks  :)
I felt great afterwards and did not wake up the next day feeling ugh like lately with all the meats  ???

**If i could only find a food combining method to keep plant foods & animal foods in each meal i would be where i want to be and i bet feel a lot better after the meal.

According to AV's book he only recommends raw veg. juice and a rare low fiber salad all based on it inhibiting digestion

Is it really going to be a disaster to regularly have raw meats in a raw low fiber salad?

I am supposing Phil you eat your meats alone away from the parsnips etc...?

Thank you for sharing your experience  ;D

Thank you for your response above to my fat questions  :)

I had 1/2 pound of organic lamb mixed with grassfed beef last night and feel really sick today  -\
But I had a lot of energy after my meal last night.  Think it caught up to me today.  Yet i can see how that heavy of a food can keep you well off until the next afternoon.

yes, i've noticed that too!!.. red meat is so satisfying so quickly, but when i eat fish sometimes i just feel like i haven't eaten real food yet until i eat something red.  no idea why, and i wonder how chicken would feel in that regard.

I just wanted to let you know i have pasture raised organic chicken that i am going to try  :o
But i am not brave enough to have it as is - i am going to make it like ceviche.  the recipes i have found online say to marinate in lemon juice for 3 days.
I really hope this does not result in the same digestion i had with cooked chicken  :P was not good at all.
I will let you know how it goes, but it will be several days before it is ready.

percent fat that works best for me tends to be around 65-70%.  i buy meat in bulk from my farmer.  i just get the cheaper cuts (which tend to be fatty) and ground meat, etc.  i like marrow and back fat, but i don't use any oils nor dairy (butter).  they just don't feel good for me.

Ioanna - do you know how helpful that is to me ;D
Seriously the little we have chatted has really been a Large help for me to see how i can make this work without having to figure out "okay so how much fat do i need to add to this meat per ounce to get what i need ect..."
Just buy fatty meat that may disclose the % of fat in the serving sizes :D

Why do you find that high of a % of fat helpful over more protein?
Based on what i have read it usually is to prevent constipation from a high meat diet?  Does it also help you digest meat better having a higher fat?

lately i've been eating one meal around 4pm.

What advantage do you find in only 1 meal a day?

I juice currently and have 2 meals a day only one being meat one being fruit or veg.  I also have ben adding easy to digest veg. (onion, tomato, cucumber, zucchini) to my meat meal. Yet this may be leading to all the gas i have been getting, maybe combo is not so good and should just eat meat alone?
I still am not sure how i would do with only meat?   I'm afraid i would eat a lot of meat to fill my tummy (which is not overweight by the way but i can eat!) then get sick from only having a lot of meat sitting in my stomach.  Did you ever experience that in the beginning with the only meat meals?

Thank you for sharing :) :) :)

Ioanna,
I've been reading your journal  :)
thank you for having one!!

Do you add fat back into your meat (butter, oil, marrow?) or just eat it as is and buy a cut that has a particular % of fat to it?  what % of fat is in the meat you buy typically?

So you only eat red meats correct?  You said fish does not work for you - in what regard?  I have been experimenting and finding that lamb is very satisfying while when i eat fish i get hungry very soon after  ???

That would be way too low in protein for me, but I lift a lot. I find protein very satiating.

Aha! I was trying to figure out what i would need more of at a meal to avoid the 1 hour later hunger thing?
So if one is hungry shortly after a meal they most likely needed more protein in the meal not more fat?

Should I take glutamine then instead of fiber? The slow transit is pretty uncomfortable.

Yes i think so.

i have been decreasing my fiber and while i have not tried fiber menaces products ( i would like too, but want to hear if they actually work for those who have used them???) I have added 4.5 grams of glutamine a day to help with the muscle tone through the intestines.  i think it is helpful, just take it on an empty tummy.
Sometimes i do stir in some coconut oil ( i use powder form of the glutamine in warm water), it helps lubricate things if my fat was low the day before.

RawCarni -
can you give us a day's example of what food and how much of it?  I have not seen many examples of what women eat and how much of it?  Being a woman and all the crazy diets i have tried - i have no idea what is a normal amount of food intake anymore  -\

Primal Diet / High Fruit?
« on: April 23, 2011, 02:24:20 am »
I know about high meat but "high fruit"?
Have seen it mentioned in a past thread.

Would high fruit be fruit that is over ripe and turning acidic?
Or is there a process one needs to do to the fruit?

Health / Re: Women: How is Your Sex Drive on Raw Paleo Diet?
« on: April 22, 2011, 12:02:33 am »
Well coming from a raw vegan diet i have to say it is improving significantly!
I had near zero libido not eating animal products (even on what was a very clean diet-my body was very clean).
When i eat lamb my libido is great - i think it is the fat!  I feel nourished, happy, and have energy.
I was really tired on on the raw vegan diet and was too tired to even think about such things.

Being nourished and well rested are key to having libido in our house.

Oh my I never thought of that Tyler  :o
Thank you for bringing that up!!

Thank you low carb and Phil about the calcium  :)

Phil - you know you are one i want to hear from on this.  What's your opinion based on your experience with a similar condition -  do you think it is better to just jump in full force and cut out the veggies and fruit and just go with raw meats, eggs, avocado's and other good fats?  Or do a gradual transition from a raw diet?
How did you start, is it in your journal?

Well I would not recommend juicing veggies as people seem to have far more problems with raw veggie juice than with raw solid vegetables.

Really ???
I thought plant fiber was bad, so juiced would be better?

I also thought veg's ("juiced" kale, collards etc..) would give me the calcium i need b/c i just cannot do dairy.

Is there a good "animal" food source for calcium?

Hello everyone!
I am new and have too many questions - so i have spent most of my time reading past posts  ;)  with a little activity in some threads  :)

Has anyone (I'm sure there has) come into this diet with success from a primarily raw vegan diet?  If so how did you transition in?
What did your daily eating look like (brk, lunch, dinner or only 2 meals day etc...)?

I'm used to only eating raw vegan (fiber) foods.
So i am not sure if it is best to keep doing what i am doing (adding egg yolks and 1 raw meat dinner a day - to a less veg diet) or is it better to just jump in and only have veg's juiced and eat raw meats and egg yolks?

Any idea's or tips on how you did this and made it work?

Thank you so much!!!

Yeah, but we're talking about zero carb here. A plain carnivorous diet where you are only eating meat fat and organs. Its not like my wife is choosing her weight. She is just eating lots of fat, organs and meat.

Whats the deal then if low body fat is not as advantageous as the universally agreed upon paleo fact of 20% body fat, then does that mean a zero carb diet is not as desirable as one that includes foods that will 'fatten you up a bit'?

Neone-
Has she gotten her hormone levels tested?

I went thru the same thing with lack of cycles (still do) and my estrogen was too low, along with progesterone.  Overtime it has led to some bone loss  :(

They repeatedly tested my pituitary gland for tumors b/c that can cause this kind of thing if one is Not underweight, over exercising, not getting enough nutrients, menopausal age, pregnant etc..
Sometimes it can be issues in the ovaries too.
So it is really worth looking into.

You have to ovulate to get pregnant, if you get the lab work done they will let you know if she is ovulating still.

The one thing that helped me, and i have tried many things ($$$$ - it's so sad), was acupuncture.  After 3 years of not having a cycle, even being put on bio-ID hormones, after one acupuncture treatment and some herbs - i got my cycle back.
Now i was told i should get more acupuncture done to get my body back in balance but I was out of $$$ from all the other stuff i tried before.  Not following the complete time i needed (7 sessions) my cycles got off again  :(
It's been 5 years of mostly no cycles.

Bottom line from me- find out if there is anything going on with some simple lab work  :)

If I eat too much meat I get more constipated, whereas raw eggs, avocado, raw fermented honey, bone marrow, lard and berries seem to be sufficiently soft, easy to digest and fatty to promote good bowels..... plus maybe antifungal and probiotic effects?

HI Phil, I am really enjoying reading 50+ pages of your journal  :o
It's a lot to take in  ;D but it is so helpful to a newbie!!!

I have not seen yet if you say just "how much" fat you need to eat with the meat to avoid the Big C?  I just don't get percentages, i go by metric system.  Maybe you can help me by saying just how much fat in TSP or TBLS one may want to have with 4 oz of meat?

Also you got me curious what "probitic" you are taking and if you notice a difference  :)

BTW - I know we all have different bod's and what works well for you may not for someone else but i know we have this one thing in common so  ;)

I could never go back to mulitple (more than 2) meals a day. It is so unnatural.

Klowcarb- how did you get to one meal a day?
I would really like to get there, yet i do my workouts first thing in the morning so i am not sure if that is wise for me.
But i am still curious how one can make it on  only one meal a day.  do you juice during the day or just drink water?
you must have a very big dinner ;D

As Iguana said earlier some thrive and some cannot survive on eggs (or on the full spectrum of foods).

Easiest thing is to give them up for a month and see what you notice.

A lot seem to prefer the yolks. Some people seem to have big issues with whipped eggs such as in a smoothie, some don't.

One suggestion is that modern chickens have been bred so intensively for so long that they are in a sense genetically modified. It's difficult to say for sure but it seems that eggs pose difficulties for some people.

When I started the primal diet I ate 6 to 10 a day. Then I started to dislike them and had an upset stomach from that so I tried eating the yolks alone and that was fine, but being a skin-flint I saved the whites and at some point decided to cook them. BiG MiStAkE. Boy was I sick!

/quote]

Thank you  :)

I think i may be having a hard time digesting animal foods in general, I'm new to hardcore RPD. I was hoping the raw eggs would be a quick and easy transition into more meats.  I may just skip to meat on a regular basis and see how i do.

Another thing i thought about was i was doing raw eggs yolks with fruit (mainly banana's) - wonder if it is the combo with fruit  ???

There is a woman on ZIOH (Yanpeng) who just got her period back on ZC. I think it comes down to body fat and nutrient density.

I think that is right - about body fat and nutrients.

At 15 yrs old ( I am in my 30's now) i went vegetarian and lost weight, was eating pretty low fat = too low in calories and nutrients.  As a result my cycles would come every 3 months.

I highly suggest she look into it.  Maybe stress, maybe she is not eating enough on LC, maybe she shocked her system with the diet, of coarse over training can do it too?

My body has really been thru a lot due to my veg. days and loss of cycles should have been a pretty clear sign for me to reexamine how i was doing things with my diet.

Please let us know how things work out and what caused it.
I am hoping RPD is my answer to regular cycle again.

Any tips on making raw eggs go down easier?

First off i have to tell you I have used both - Raw chicken eggs and Raw duck eggs.  Chicken egg's taste terrible to me, sulfur like.  Duck eggs are amazing!!
And i do mean Raw - still amazing.    The yolk taste like you poached it when in fact it is fresh out of the shell.

Duck eggs are better than chicken eggs nutritionally as well.
Regardless of what egg you get, for me it, it taste better mixed with some fruit.  I so enjoy it mashed into a banana.  I also have blended an orange and then stirred in the yolk.

have you bought AV's recipe book?  he seems to add eggs to most recipes.

Welcome to the group  :)

Has anyone had adverse reactions to raw eggs?

I have been consuming raw duck eggs (mainly just yolks) and lately i have been very VERY itchy mainly on my torso but also arms and legs.  Now i have red pinhole size dots on my torso ???

And i am breaking out, which i never do!
So weird, all i can think of is the eggs?

I've also read that raw eggs can cause one to detox, is that true?

thanks  :)

Should I take glutamine then instead of fiber? The slow transit is pretty uncomfortable.

I've been wondering about glutamine myself and looking at "Fiber Menaces" products b/c they are suppose to address one coming from a higher fiber diet to LC.  His GI Recovery has 5,000 mg, that is hard to find elsewhere.

Has anyone used his products, with success or failure?

He has a whole colon recovery package :o

I'm a little skeptical though -\

KD-
That is very encouraging you were able to reverse it  :)
yes for me the MD said i was born with it, but i am not 100% sold on that.  I think diet leading to chronic constipation led to more twist and turns than normal.

When you say "mono meals" - what did you mono meal?
I would like to give it a try!
I have done that with fruit in the past, but am pretty sure you are referring to more primal diet?

I have been following your suggestion about eggs and veg. juice (but i vita-mix) for my meals.  I am getting hungry a lot?  I think b/c i filled up on fiber for so long raw eggs and some veg is not holding me over  :(
If there is any suggestions on this let me know  :)

I listened to AV on oneradionetwork.com, patrick timpones website.  If anyone has not listened to those they are always available to hear, you just need to register with the site.
