I forgot to mention that, given the choice,  I would rather have this person work from his/her Germany home : apart from  books to be translated, some documents, in particular those related to the first half of the XXth century, will have to be collected in various   Landarchivs  in southern germany.
Hi
I could do it, being a native German speaker -my english is not bad either, I have lived in South Africa and London for some time. I do speak french too but not good enough for translating these type of books I think

« on: August 03, 2011, 11:47:38 pm »
Actually when it snowed was when I started running barefoot again after going with vibrams for a few weeks in the cold/icy weather. Since I was running on tarmac, the snow actually provided insulation and made it warmer for my feet. Also, my vibrams were too slippy on the slush but my feet were fine. Grit was also no problem.

My experience is that my feet usually start off warm, cool off, and then get warm again and stay warm, when running barefoot in the winter.

Wow I don't imagine how you could do it. I tried to keep up my barefoot runniing in winter but one day my smallest toe started getting blue and it did fell numb so I put on shoes the next day. Maybe I will try again this year  ;)

Hey Phil,
I just wanted to tell you that I so love reading your posts! Everytime I am here or on DCF I read all the threads where your name appears as the one who posted last - I always think that must be an interesting read and in the vast majority of cases it is-love all the research and especially your philosophical side  8)

Hi Rawcarni,

Some years ago I had eaten raw beef suet from grain-fed organic ("Bio") beef. The result was a pure health disaster. At the moment I eat backfat from beef and lamb, but from 100% grass-fed animals only. So far, absolutely no problems. Next time I will try to eat suet from grass-fed animals.
Where do you get backfat from beef and lamb?

Be careful with animals fats. We have MASSIVE dioxin problems in some states of Germany.
Löwenherz

Yes I know-but I have to eat something...I am in Brandenburg-do you know anything about too high Dioxin levels here? I suppose its not as big a problem as in other states

400g of pure beef fat? Incredible! I (still) can't eat/digest so much fat. And I would sweat like crazy as raw animal fats produces so much heat in my body. Are you wearing any clothes during the winter in the woods?  :D

Löwenherz

Yes and that kept me going...The next day at 11pm I was still not hungry lol...but ate still  ;).
It is weird about the fat: When I started ZC I felt that eating animal products only makes me warm-now I have noticed that this is true for protein and that the fat does not make me sweat so much when I overeat it-this happens with too much protein however. very interesting...

Well, I got real sick again from trying to eat only raw.  It's a bacterial infection (e-coli or salmonella).  I'm going back to seared rare meat and well-cooked ground meat when I'm able to eat again.
I wonder why you are having again problems with salmonella/e-coli. Maybe your meat is really bad quality?

RawCarni -
can you give us a day's example of what food and how much of it?  I have not seen many examples of what women eat and how much of it?  Being a woman and all the crazy diets i have tried - i have no idea what is a normal amount of food intake anymore  -\

Hey Alicia,
I eat at minimum 1Kg of food per day. Average calories from fat between 80-90% (the higher numbers are when I am doing strenuous work in the woods-coring trees for 8-10hours.) I also do run daily (currently between 20-30kms), so my calories and food amounts might be more an example for a highly active woman.
When I am hungry I eat tons of fat. The other day I had 1kg meat and after i had finished I ate another 400g (roundabout) of pure beef fat. I also eat organs almost daily. All sorts from all animals (beef, pork, chicken, rarely fish).Everything I eat is raw.

Hope this helps?

Cheers Nicole

The raw beef fat that is used to make tallow is called suet, also known as perinephric fat or kidney fat. It's the fat around the kidneys and other organs.
Thanks Phil-and how do you call just the simple raw fat (not coming from around the organs?)

Well, I suspect that all such activities are necessary.
Yeah me too. To my mind you need some type of balance with regards to exercise.

I disagree. Stamina/endurance is very important.
me too...
How could I miss this thread?...I am doing endurance stuff: ultrarunning. It's a totally different feeling and my energy is way higher and much more stable than on a "standard diet". It's like a nice steady stream of energy, the whole time. I get exhaused gradually, like becoming tired, but there is no "hitting the wall" anymore. A very high fat (>80% calories) ZC diet has been the key for me so far to being able to consistently up my mileage again and my recovery time is way, way, WAY less than it used to-so I will stick to that way of eating as long as it is working so nicely  ;)
Cheers

90%? Wow! And what kind of fats do you prefer?

Löwenherz

Hey Herz,
as you are also German and I am not really certain yet what the right english translation is (i think tallow?): Rindertalg.
BTW: Are you in G. currently and if so: where do you live?

That would be way too low in protein for me, but I lift a lot. I find protein very satiating.
Well I eat way more calories than you do (like between 3000-3500) and if I eat too much protein I start to get some swelling in my knees. I haven't figured out yet what causes this, but I am pretty certain that the total amount of protein (in terms of g per body weight) shouldn't exceed a certain threshold (whatever this might be).
I feel much more energetic and more stable energy levels with very high fat and moderate/low protein.
BTW: I am doing loads of physical labour which is similar to weight lifting: coring trees. That is on 3 or 4 days a week I am in the woods for 8-10hours a day and take increment cores with an increment borer (and no: it has NO motor ;)), in addition to that I am running 7 days a week between 20-30kms each day.

I can easily eat one pount of beef liver in one meal. Maybe I should eat liver more often...

Löwenherz

Haha that's me too ;). I almost always eat a pound in one meal. Sometimes its funny: suddenly the taste changes to unpleasant and I can't eat another single bite of it..

Hi Rawcarni,

what is the protein/fat-ratio of your food round about?

Did you need a "transition time" regarding bowel movements after switching to ZC?

I still would like to find out why raw ZC didn't work for me so far...

Löwenherz

Hey L.

Sorry I am late...I eat about 80%+ calories from fat. Some days its more close to 90%.

Hey Larry,
I know you asked kate but maybe some more answers: I love liver: No problem eating one to two pounds of raw fresh pork liver in one sitting. Raw tngue I a´lso do eat: I peel of the tough parts and cut it into pieces-especially the fattier parts are very soft. The leaner parts become very tender when you leave it just at room temp for couple of days.

Hey Larry,
cool to see you here! You may not remember me from ZIOH. I have been eating raw ZC for most of my ZC adventure. Good luck trying going raw!
all the best

For some reason though the thought of eating raw chicken puts me off not because of foodborne illness but because I keep imagining that it would taste nasty. Would anyone like to share what it tastes like?

I like raw chicken-it tastes really good! Compared to beef it is very mild flavor, but the texture is way, way softer and I enjoy it very much. If you leave it for couple days air dry in the fridge it will start tasting sweet.

Exercise / Bodybuilding / Re: the importance of exercise
« on: February 19, 2011, 08:55:51 pm »
Yeah I am not sure. I exercise often. Some days more than others. Not sure why others don't exercise.
Makes me feel good, diet alone is no good.

Same with me-I feel more in peace with myself when I exercise. Also I can concentrate much better-I think there is some truth to that saying: healthy body-healthy mind.

Hey Bronwen,
what a funny coincidence with Sabie ;). I am still planning to go back to SA one day. I really did fell in love with it obviously :D.
I also ate raw vegan for some time-now I have been eating ZC for some time and the difference with regards to how my brain functions is amazing! My mind is much calmer, my thoughts cearer. did give me also some physical benefits though.

Sorry if you answered already: How long have you been eating fruitarian?

I occasionally eat garlic. Do you eat it rare? If so, how do you eat it? Garlic is very strong rare. Do you dry it?

I eat it raw. But I am probably used to the strong taste as I have been eating it raw since childhood (people in Germany like to put raw garlic slices on bread with salami  ;))

Hey Phil,
The other day I had a single air dried hot pepper-well it was stimulating my digestive system...and that (funny...) made me think of you, as you seem to have pretty poor digestion: Have you tried eating more hot/spicy stuff along with meat (such as pepper, garlic etc?)
