Hot Topics / Foods That Do the Weight Loss For You
« on: January 02, 2012, 10:28:42 pm »
Recent research in the Journal of Nutrition suggests eating more fiber as a way to prevent weight gain or even encourage weight loss. Over the course of the two-year study, the researchers found that boosting fiber by 8 grams for every 1,000 calories resulted in about 4 1/2 pounds of weight lost.

Try it for yourself. If you're consuming 2,000 calories per day, aim to increase your fiber by 16 grams.

Fiber-rich foods that help do the weight-loss work for you:

1. A medium apple contains 4 grams of fiber
2. One cup of green beans boasts 4 grams of fiber
3. A medium-size baked sweet potato, skin included, offers 5 grams of fiber-for just 103 calories.
4. One cup of raspberries has 8 grams of fiber
5. One cup of strawberries has a respectable 3 grams of fiber
6. 3/4 cup of chickpeas has a whopping 8 grams of fiber
7. A cup of cooked pumpkin contains 3 grams of fiber

If the fruits you eat have been treated with so much artificial fertilizers...yes, it may cause cancer. Be careful with the bananas and mangoes that look too good.

if you eat too much of the "cinnamon" they sell in stores, at the quantities, and for the purposes of medicine for lowering blood sugar(its been touted) that its detrimental to the liver, i guess the spice cinnamon is usually not real cinnamon and ceylon cinnamon, the one with the purposed benefits, is hard to come by
im sure if you are just using a sprinkle you are fine

Hey..I love cinnamon. Using nutritionix calculator, I tried to check Pinkberry Cinnamon Streusel.  it shows that it has no trans fat, 35 cals, 11 g carbs and no cholesterol.

Hot Topics / Re: Is stopping menstruation good or bad?
« on: December 28, 2011, 11:45:36 pm »
Hello all,

I recently learned that some vegans/people believe that stopping menstruation is somehow good. I always thought that was supposed to be a natural thing, but I'm not an expert anyway...

So, is there anyone who read "The Mystery of Menstruation by Raymond Bernard"? What do you think about that? Any experiences?

After a quick google I found the first chapters here: http://tinyurl.com/c8qdj6c

I'm no lady, but I believe that everything that our body expels are toxins that need to be taken out of our body (menstruation included).

The problem is that people don't understand what diet means... When they encounter this phrase they are instinctively led to believe that it's about losing weigh doing jogging eating yoghurts salads and bananas xD but I can't blame them the tv really does a great job in brain washing people to a point of total dumbness..

So what does diet mean?

Sorry, I guess I'm on the camp that doesn't know real diet  :)

Manuel Villacorta, a national spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association and owner of MV Nutrition in San Francisco has been quoted on a website who said that he often sees men struggling to keep their weight in check.

"Most men don't want to be on a diet. They think they'll be eating a steady dose of salads..."

And I thought I was the only one who feels that way.

What about you? What do you think of this?

Now I can't have chicken, roast beef, tortilla, Swiss cheese, and what else?

That is painful  -\

Really?

You're good at this Cherimoya_kid. Thanks!

How about this salad:

Olive Oil Blend
Cucumbers
Lettuce
Tomatoes
Onions
Avocado
Roast Beef
Swiss Cheese

Cals: 256.5
Carbs: 7 g
Protein: 22 g

Reference: Subway Menu at http: http://www.nutritionix.com/subway/nutrition-calculator

Can't think of anything with higher protein..but at least I got the carbs right and the calorie count isn't bad

Thanks for your suggestion, cherimoya_kid.  Built a meal at JustSalad using nutritionix calculator at http://www.nutritionix.com/subway/nutrition-calculator

Here's my bowl:

Celery
Baby Spinach
Buffalo Chicken
Tortilla Strips

Protein: 33.4 g
Carbs: 20 g

Guess, I still need to find a way to minimize the carbs.

Can anyone suggest any healthy food at Buffalo Wild Wings, Just Salad, or UFood Grill? I prefer to have something that's high in protein but low in carbs  :)
