General Discussion / Re: Butter???

I see at   http://marshfieldceliac.weebly.com/uploads/2/5/5/7/2557865/ada_ages_in_food_reduction1.pdf   that butter is supposedly high in advanced glycation end products.  That does not necessarily mean that we absorb said AGEs.  Just like so many things that mainstream so-called nutrition says are bad for us.

And my previous paragraph does not necessarily mean that AGEs are not absorbed while eating butter or anything else.  It only means that the jury is still out.

If paleo is about anything that makes sense, it is about matching your diet/lifestyle with your genes.  And since everyone's genes are different, guess what!!!, everyone's diet will be different.  In fact, one geneticist said that most of the differences between human beings are in their appearance and in their reaction to foods.

What is often called paleo is what some ego decided was good for everyone else.  There is a lot of merit in reading what said ego said was good for them, but it is unlikely to be just right for everyone.

I also did not see my choice available.  I would have voted 90% diet and 10% exercise and 100% genetics and epigenetics.  You can feed an autistic child paleo and fermented veggies until hell freezes over, and he will always be autistic, although I think that doing so would improve his autism dramatically.

I notice that the more posts a commenter has, the more important they think diet is.  The longer I stay on paleo and fermented foods, the more important that I think diet is.  And I am typing this after just having run 20 minutes.   (:->)

Dorothy, I read both of your monster articles.  I have been thinking about owning a hen or two.  Thank you so much for that chicken information.  It says something about the insult of calling someone a chicken.

Tell me, oh, chicken sage, will dogs try to kill chickens.  I have an excitable puppyzilla girlie and a fat, lazy old lady doggie.  Does this make raising chicks for more than a couple of hours impossible?

Dr. Burzynski's story is no different from Max Gerson's story.  The real similarity is that the cancer establishment are a bunch of vicious low-life who will do anything to maintain their monopoly.  They will call it something else, usually they call it science, but it is still greed.

Gerson advocated raw juices and other natural cures.  He got good results.  I believe that we can do better, but Gerson is definitely worth a look-see.

DaBoss88,

Moore's Cuba experience was staged by the government.  If you want collectivism that actually works and isn't coercive as government ALWAYS is, start your own co-op.  Perfectly legal and many work wonderfully.  Mondragon Corp. centered in the Basque country in Spain is rocking and rolling.  It is the wave of the future, the ideal "business" establishment.  85% of the "workforce" own the company.  It really is a dragon, but the competition is doing the moaning.     :)

noel,

You might check out Ayurvedic Medicine.  Although they were swept up in the agricultural fad 5000 years ago just like everyone else, they have a lot of really good ideas about hot:cold, dry:wet, assertive:passive, sattwic:rajasic:tamasic, etc.

The other thing that I can think of is niacin.  It needs to be studied; niacinamide is a waste of money.  And you need to not take too much.  This is probably not something that you would want to do forever, but it might help you to recover.

Dear Dorothy, No.  Except to say that even toxins get recycled.  If and when we stop poisoning ourselves, then the level of toxins will decline over time.

Believe it or not, CO2 emissions per se may actually help.  CO2 is a nutrient for plants, and plants will help cycle toxins.  Unfortunately, CO2 emissions always include other things that NO ONE disputes are toxins.  LENR will definitely reduce CO2 emissions and the emissions of many toxins.  I think that we just got to hunker down and get the word out for people to live more simply, to know that they can be happy without the very latest car, cellphone, object, junk and other things that don't cause real happiness.  Health is the first happiness.  I know of several very dear and spiritual people who are miserable because of ill health.

Dear Technosmith,

my wife is oriental (OK Asian, whatever).  Our naturopathic doctor said that Asians (OK oriental, whatever) are not as able to metabolize fats as well as most other people, in general, of course.  To compensate because she was having trouble with lipid metabolism, our ND told her to take either lipase or pancreatin in pill form.  Lipase metabolizes fat, and pancreatin contains lipase along with other valuable digestive enzymes.  And I think, money-wise, pancreatin is much cheaper, even if all that you wanted was the lipase.  And digestive enzymes are just plain good, especially if you are getting older.

The other thing is to accept the fact that you may not have the genes to metabolize much fat, even if you are white or black or whatever.  Just make sure that you are eating excellent carbs.

The most excellent fun carb that I know is (no, not brownies, when I say "excellent fun carb" I mean excellent health wise and very tasty) "coconut palm tree sugar" or "palm tree sugar".  It is the nectar of the coconut or palm tree or both.

Talk about evolution!  The nectar of a coconut tree has to taste GREAT for bats and bees and other pollinators.  It must also nurture, or else those creatures will not be coming back to pollinate.  So it must be healthy.

I have found two types of coconut palm tree "sugar".  I forget the brand names.  One is sort of roasted and is in powder form.  I did not like it much.  I felt that roasting it ruined the taste and the health benefits.  I found at an Asian grocery store a paste that tastes so freaking good that it should be illegal.  And I think that it is minimally processed.

My experience with it confirms that the glycemic load is low, supposedly 7.  Although the science is pretty slim, one company who has a financial interest in the GL being low, my experience is that I can eat until I am satisfied and it does nothing to disrupt my sleep or anything else negative that happens to me when I eat high glycemic load foods.  It also takes very little to get to satisfaction, unlike the brownies that I mentioned above.

Dorothy, did you see my recent post about the average number of children per woman dropping toward 2 throughout the world.  Go to www.gapminder/world.   It will pop you into a filled page whose address is way too long for me to cut and paste.  At the bottom just left of the word "log", select for "Children per woman (total fertility)".  Click on "Play" and watch the show from 1800 to 2011.  Watch how the circles (each circle represents the population of a particular country) moves towards the left.  Because of this and LENR, I am very optimistic about our future. There are variables on the left also.  You can select for "Income per person (GDP per capita....)" or hundreds of other statistics.  This really is an amazing and enlightening and enlightened website.

You can play with this for hours.  On the far right you can select any number of countries in order to give you a perspective on what is going on.  I select the United States of America since I know them the best.

You can even select "Children per woman (total fertility)" for both axises, click "Play", and watch the 45% line move towards the lower left hand corner.

Have fun.

Dorothy, et. al., unfortunately, as much as us LENR enthusiasts have tossed  ideas around about the consequences of LENR, I can not see (at this point) any structural reason why pesticides would be discouraged by market forces because of LENR and practically free energy.  I suppose that the case could be made that a much higher percentage of the world's population will be pulled out of poverty and they will have more leverage to demand organic foods (I often buy non-organic veggies because I cannot afford organic), but there will still be some pressure to use pesticides.  I guess that we can hope that the lessening of forces as described above will help.  But only time will tell.

LENR will devastate the petroleum industry.  The petroleum industry is a major source of chemicals for the pesticide industry.  When demand goes down for petroleum, then the price will drop; this will make it much cheaper to make pesticides.  But when people have significantly more money, they will be more likely to turn up their noses at non-organic foods.  LENR will also help people be more self-sufficient and more able to have their own gardens, even in cold climates.  This will lessen the market demand for fruits and veggies.  But not by much; and will this lesson the demand for non-organic produce?  I doubt it.  People will still be driven by the desire to save money.

You folks might also look into LENR or Low energy nuclear reactions.  Yes, I know, it looks phony and mainstream physicists will say that it ain't so.  But I have been following it intensely for about 9 months and am as smart as the next guy, and it looks real to me.

You might check here first:  http://nickelpower.org/2011/12/30/replicators-as-if-december-30-2011/     How far we are away from almost free commercial energy remains to be seen.  But there are scientific big wigs at MIT, NASA, SRI International, Caltech, University of Missouri, etc. etc. etc. who say that it is for real.  And if they are mistaken (not even lying), their careers would be over.

Why is this important on a raw paleo forum.  Because soon the energy for desalinization will be very close to free.  Deserts will bloom.  Everyone will be able to eat paleo, if they so choose.

The good news is that the rate of children per woman is dropping toward two per woman ALL over the world.  UN demographers say that this will result in the world's population plateauing out at roughly 10 billion.  That is way too high for me, but it is a big relief.

Does that mean that everyone can be paleo?  Don't know.

I do a lot of kale.  It is very drying.  It is probably a diuretic.  I juice it with carrots, celery, etc. and blend it into the juice.  If you do it that way, it is best to drink extra water.

When I say that I love salt, I mean that I will touch some salt with my finger, and then lick my finger.  But I generally only feel like doing that when I have been veggie juicing.  I think that veggie juice is sort of low in sodium, so that is why I am inspired to do this.

During my fast, I was lusting at some chips (like Doritos without the spice), and realized that it wasn't the carbs in the chips I wanted.  It was the salt.  So I started supplementing my raw juice/single egg/coconut oil fast with a dab of salt.

I confess that I really like the salt in chips and that I never really was all that crazy about the chips per se.  People need lots of salt, approximately as much as they enjoy, despite what the mainstream dieticians and nutritionists say.

I take about 2 cups of my harvest of kefir and put it in my VitaMix.  I add berries, usually strawberries.  Blend.  While blending add stevia.  It is ready to go, and even my picky 13 year old loves it. :)

I was a "health food" eater influenced somewhat by Weston Price and my wife's cooking.  So going hardcore low carb and plenty of fat was very healthy for me.  You can't imagine how peaceful it is around here now.
