Health / Re: Cant tolerate the sun/getting burnt
« on: February 12, 2013, 09:54:06 am »
Definitely astaxanthin, that is the cure for sunburn, you literally cannot get burned if you eat 12-20mg astaxanthin for a couple of weeks.

Almost everyone who doesn't eat loads of seafood has an astaxanthin deficiency. And of course these same people have an iodine deficiency too, so iodine comes in to it strongly also.

Just keep fat in the fridge, you don't need to freeze it. Fat is very hardy, you could freeze and unfreeze as much as you like, but I wouldn't like that as it would be all frosty.

Organs are best frozen though, unfreezing them, cutting them up and freezing them again once is fine.

A common intolerance to fructose is getting acne.

A common intolerance to some complex fiber-carbs is inflammation.

Though I would say few people have an intolerance to plain starches, we are built to easily digest it. Many people have trouble with starchy foods because of other intolerances such as gluten or ligands or the fructose or fibre that accompanies the starch. IF you want to test your true carb tolerance then find clean starches such as pumpkin or sweet potato, and eat them both cooked and raw, and make sure they are your only intakes of carbs for 3-4 weeks. I doubt you will have any problems with clean starch, however your body might prefer either cooked or raw.

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Re: Raw Eggs made me throw up?
« on: January 16, 2013, 09:00:15 am »
Two whole eggs a day should be no problem I think. Perhaps it is the consistency of the raw food that makes you want to puke? If that is the case it is likely psychosomatic.
Or if it is the method you are eating them, then try eating eggs different ways. I like to poke two holes (pinky nail sized top and pin hole sized bottom) and suck little bits of egg through the top.
Or if you are still having the high protein low fat diet problem it could be a starvation response. I know if I am feeling hungry on a fast I will want to throw up even though I have not eaten anything.

Yeah... why not? Pemmican, as I have said before, can be made raw, and lasts for years without refrigeration.

As for the starch diet...
People's health improves short term because of weight loss. Losing fat removes a lot of stress from the body, improves insulin sensitivity, sheds fat-soluble toxins and lots of other good stuff. The body enters into a pseudo-ketosis to break down the fat in their stores because they are not eating ANY fat (a pure starch diet). The body needs fat from SOMEwhere so if there is none in the diet it will take it from where it can.
But in the long term after their initial weight loss, they will suffer from nutritional deficiencies and fat cravings, and if they continue to eat no-fat after their safe fat-stores are gone then their body will pull it from their muscle cells and their organs to sustain the heart and brain, or eventually they will suffer brain damage when they completely run out of fat.
It is definitely not a sustainable or healthy long term diet, but I can imagine it has it's benefits for the obese, if done for no more than a few months, supplemented with some lean raw fish (for omega 3s to defend against brain damage) ... but then after their 2-3 months they should go on a VLC high fat diet with lots of organs and seafood.

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Re: Fatigue
« on: January 14, 2013, 01:58:42 pm »
Ok, please listen up. What you are going through is nothing special. It is simple to explain and happens whether you are eating raw food or not (however raw may make the transition a little harder).

You are entering into ketosis. As your liver depletes itself of glycogen (your sugar storage) you run out of fuel for your muscles and brain. This is not bad as long as you are eating lots of fat, because the next step your body takes is to start using fat for fuel (in the form of ketones). Stop eating so much muscle meat and stick to fat, fat, fat and some organs like liver, heart, brain, etc.
Every time you feed your liver carbohydrates you are prolonging the adaptation so stay away from carbohydrates, other than a small cup of berries each day. You need to be eating less than 40g carbs or it will keep you from entering ketosis! Too much protein will convert in your body to carbohydrates and keep you from entering ketosis!

You are likely eating too much protein and not enough fat. Fat might make you feel sick at first, but you will get used to it. You can add spices to pieces of raw fat (like paprika and pepper and salt) and it becomes tasty!

As for depression and random crying... are you taking contraceptives? I know many women who have had emotional problems while taking them because it boosts your progesterone and your estrogen and really mucks with your other hormones. Think of them as on par with a bodybuilder injecting steroids into his muscles... contraceptives are oral steroids and muck with your brain as much as it mucks with your sexual organs. If you are not taking contraceptives then we can think about other ideas.

Lastly, you say you can't sleep through the night. This may be two things: hypoglycemia (from having no sugar, but also not being in ketosis) or natural sleep segmentation. Read up on it here, if you wake up in the middle of the night, get up and do a bit of light exercise, and keep yourself in the dark, or read by candle light. If you stay in bed you can become stressed and you are also stopping your hormones from becoming right.

But Irish Moss, Arame, Sea Spaghetti, Dulse.. any other are just fine in larger amounts too! I make me seaweed water, water with dried raw seaweed in it, and drink throughout the day. Tastes amazing. Slightly salty in a nice way, and so addicting!

Me too!

Eating more meat and less carbs = higher libido.

Also being awake in the middle of the night helps a lot too, I go crazy with sexual frustration if I have no women or some kind of sex-distracting activity to do at night.  I started sleeping segmented a while back and it was a major hormone changer for me :)

I agree Inger... sad and flat. They seem happy they can do something that reminds them of their old culture, but this is what happens when one is so far removed from their nature, without education nor teachers to learn from.

That was my plan! Brain, however, is half fat, half protein, about 10g of each per 100g, which makes drying tricky. Thinly slice brain, heart, liver and let it dry out in the fridge for ten days then dehydrate the lot in a dehydrator at 37 degrees, make me some pemmican!

A few recipes I am going to try:
-Kangaroo, GF Beef Fat, Figs, Garlic, Rosemary, Cinnamon, Cloves, Pepper, Salt
-Garfish, Coconut Oil, Cranberry, Garlic, Ginger, Mint, Coriander, Chilli, Salt
-Duck Breast, Duck Fat, Passion Fruit and Orange, Garlic, Soy Sauce

If those work out I will swap out the muscle meat for heart and some of the fat for brain, and see how that works. For the Garfish version I will start with just the meat, and the second batch add in dehydrated, blended fish head and guts and see if it still tastes alright.

I read http://www.rawpaleodietforum.com/hot-topics/how-do-you-make-'raw'-pemmican/

And I have decided I can give people some tips for making a raw pemmican.

One complaint is the fact that you need to heat fat to dehydrate it... this is wrong, you can simply leave it open in your fridge and it will shrink and shrivel and dehydrate. When you have dehydrated the fat (over a week or two in the fridge) you can grind it and heat it in a yoghurt heater (heats to about 37 degrees).

I have some dehydrated slabs of fat in my fridge, and so I will experiment with this...

I have a few ideas for making liver and brain versions of pemmican... Slicing thinly the liver and brain to dehydrate in my fridge, then to finish off the dehydration process in the 37`C dehydrator unit. This will be interesting!

I might try it with coconut oil too... extra virgin coconut oil is saturated and is raw, isn't it? That would deal with a lot of problems if it is tasty enough...

Lastly, Goodsamaritan you asked how much you must eat per day... A perfectly dehydrated 250g will be about 2000 Cals.

How do you make it correctly? I think I know the mistake was boiling the meat... is there a way to render the fat without cooking it? Like blend the raw, cold fat, then raise it to 37 degrees, press and strain?

I have also heard it is tasty adding raw dehydrated powdered onion and garlic.

http://wholehealthsource.blogspot.com.au/2009/12/butyric-acid-ancient-controller-of.html

I am convinced of the benefits of fermentable fibre... as it ferments into short chain fatty acids, which have profiles and effects similar to that of butyric acid.

Of course vegetables are going to be better than grains!

Do should not need to freeze anything to stop it from being smelly. You can dry age your meat in the fridge, which is what I do. It will dehydrate in a good fridge, and if it is kept at below 4 degrees Celsius then it will not grow bacteria. This is actually what chefs do professionally if they want to make a great tasting, tender steak! Tell your dad what you are doing by leaving large flanks of meat in the fridge to dry out is actually a common thing to do for non-raw eaters.

You can simply youtube dry aged meat for some more information.

Does anyone try to eat frozen meat before it fully thaws? I think this might be a good idea considering the inuit can eat partially frozen foods... Of course they eat fresh when they can, but they eat frozen too (or at least they used to before the western influence) thus their jaw adaptations. You don't need jaw adaptations to eat frozen food though, right, just wait til it is soft-frozen (soft enough to cut though) and cut it into pieces?

General Discussion / Re: cant sleep!

I will one-up on goodsamaritan and say to sleep segmented and to use red night lighting and rubylith covers for screens... or you can just use candles. Warm white lights and even incandescent lamps will block your melatonin production at night, and so will TV and computer screens.

Also eating raw foods without sugar will decrease the amount of sleep you need, if you used to sleep 8h then you now might only need 6.5-7h, and the more frequently you sleep the less you will need again. You could get in the habit of sleeping 3.5h+3.5h and you will do well.

Also, your dependence on sugar will mean you sleep poorly at first, but your sleep will improve and get better because there will be no insulin to block the growth hormone in your deep sleep, and no insulin to block your melatonin at night.

Well, condoms DO stop the exchange of nutrient filled fluid. As the man ejaculates into the woman he is losing nutrients in his sperm, but the woman is also giving nutrients back as the porous skin of the penis absorbs her vaginal lubrication. Sex with condoms means both partners are just losing nutrients.

Thanks,

The 6m high meat is actually really sloppy. I kept it in the jar as per tutorial, even let some raindrops get in it, and it has gone a bit liquidy.

I will try to eat more kangaroo, but the problem is I can't even get kangaroo fat! Kangaroo is 99.9% fat free, and is hard on the stomach unless I eat butter with it... but all my butter is pasteurized (damn Australian law) so I don't like eating the butter.

I guess because everything is bland I don't want to eat, even if I am hungry. I understand a difference between a stop, a lack of hunger and a lack of apetite... I stay hungry after a bit of bland food, mentally I don't want to eat more bland, though my stomach might want more.
The stop is a taste change when it goes from sweet to sour, or meaty to metallic, or something like that, I think I understand it well. After about a punnet of strawberries they will go from sweet to sour/bitter. After about three thumbs of liver it will go from meaty to metallic.

I will stop the kefir (I am sad about that) and see if that helps...
