Exercise / Bodybuilding / Re: Low carb and zero carb exercise
« on: September 23, 2009, 01:30:25 am »
Well I'm an athlete by trade. I've been zero carb raw primal now for 5 weeks or so and I can honestly say that now that my body has made the adjustment metaboliclly, my energy is better than ever. Including explosive power (the kind you suposedly need carbs for). My body makes the exact right amount of carbs out of the proteins I eat for me to function my best so this notion going around that you have to eat carbs for explosive energy is completely fiction (as are so many beliefs in modern society).

Well I'm an athlete with rigourous training and over 220 pounds of very lean body to feed and I eat probably 3plus  pounds of fatty meat a day. And I'm getting leaner.

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Re: Calcium

My wife told me my gums look much better already  and that's after only 3 weeks on zc.

I'm mostly scandinavian with a little native american blood

I think the native american part of my genetics makes my very insulin resistant. This zero carb diet is very healing for me.

Ya but he eats a lot of sugars so he's mentally frantic, we can only feel sorry for him.

I've pressed 500  Squatted 650  and deadlifted 640 without steroids at 210 pounds. Alot of it is genetic  alot of it is learned   and then in some cases alot of it is chemical enhancement as well I suppose

Gotta love the bag work ;-)

Man I have eaten raw oyesters twice this last week and both times I woke up so horny it was rediculous. I used to think the aphrodisiac thing was wishful thinking but not anymore, I honestly wasn't expecting this effect but it is real.

I have been letting hamburger sit in the fridge til its over a week old in some cases and it gets pretty syinky and a little slimy. I force myself to eat it cuz I've read all about the benefits of eating that bacteria. Maybe it is that bacteria thats making us feel so good. How awesome is that.

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Re: Calcium
« on: September 03, 2009, 01:33:41 pm »
I'm using celtic sea salt. It has calcium magnesium potasium and all the other important minerals in a ratio very similar to humans optimum ratios  and it makes the raw meat taste better.

It doesn't cause bloating like refined table salt (which is toxic because it is mineral unbalanced from the processing) It actually reverses water retention if you are bloated or retaining water because it has the minerals balanced properly.

I'm 3 weeks into my cold turkey no carb raw meat diet. I've had some bad sugar cravings and some energy ups and downs but those are definitely passing. At this point I feel bouts of extreme calm and focus even slight euphoria, overall I have noticed a definite decrease in anxiety (I have experienced some very serious anxiety issues in the past).

That being said I have also had an increase in overall aggression. But it's a positive thing to me (especially as an MMA fighter)  it feels like a very confident, powerful, primal type of aggression. It's like my testosterone has doubled or something (and mine was already very high). I feel like I can take on anything in the blink of an eye and my mind is more able to focus on whatever needs to be focused upon.

Just my personal subjective 2 cents. So far SOOO  good!

General Discussion / Insulin in fat tissue?
« on: August 28, 2009, 10:16:29 am »
I thought I read somewhere on here that body fat contains insulin and as you burn it it releases that insulin back into the blood and causes a sugar craving,  is  this  true?

And if so does that mean that animal body fat contains insulin too?

Yes, that position has been in vogue for quite some time.

It may well be true of his work in the past 10+ years - I don't know. I've never been to his Quest Center in OH. That said, it is definitely true (in my opinion) of MOST of the other ninpo teachers I've seen. Most of them were never half as good as Hayes was, and are now even worse.

Given that, I place little or no value on their opinion of Hayes.

The hold that view primarily because what Hayes taught them (he structure, not the techniques) is different from what Hatsumi teaches. They forget that Hayes' mandate from Hatsumi back in the 1970s & early 1980s was to create a structure in order to teach Americans the art of ninjutsu. Hatsumi didn't ask them - he asked Hayes. Hayes complied.

If they think Hayes is bogus, they think (whether they realize it or not) that Hatsumi has poor judgment.

From what I have seen and expirienced the ground guys beat the standup fighters the vast majority of the time. Thats what evolved MMA into a mixture of everything, if you don't have it all you gotta stick to a sport that only does what you are good at like kickboxing if you don't have a ground fighting game or wrestling if you are afraid of being hit. I love MMA for bringing it all together.
That aside, I doubt you'll find a decent ninjutsu teacher...unless you are interested in studying history & culture as opposed to a real system of fighting.

RE: Other martial arts - If you are interested in fighting, BJJ, judo, & wrestling are great for ground work while boxing & muay thai are great for stand up. If you dig weapons usage, you might try some kali/eskrima. There are plenty of places that teach a combination of arts.

Personally, I don't like the modern model used to analyze fight technique (ground v stand-up), but I suppose it's useful for communication.

Exercise / Bodybuilding / Re: Insulin, Growth Hormone, bulking
« on: August 26, 2009, 03:58:36 am »
If you had a lot of security in your survival and no trouble with food I can see that coming up, but the vision I have of paleo living is a bit of a feast/famine rotation that wouldn't allow for "training" in the way we think of it. In order to "train" you need, or would prefer, consistency. In the wild there is much less consistency than in towns and cities, where the elements are controlled for our preferences.

Well I would have been darm determined to achieve that level of security in my tribe in that case. I see your point and have to agree. One must have a stable enough survival environmeant to have the time and extra energy required to create competitive sport. I'll bet some tribes did achive this.

I dunno guys don't you think there was guys who wanted to test their strength and pick up bigger and bigger rocks or logs or whatever they came up with. I can imagine doing this thousands of years ago. In fact I do it now in a world where I don't actually need to lift anything except the phone to order my pizza. Other than hunting eating sex and hut making how would I have entertained myself back when there was no boob toobs and malls to wander around lol.

I just started this method of training Tuesday. I'm still sore because I haven't lifted weights in about 4 months. It's so great because my workout only took about twenty minutes, and that was only because I was waiting for other people to get off certain machines. People in the gym were probably looking at me like, "Why is that guy only doing one rep for each exercise." I'm interested to see how my body responds since I'm on a zero-carb diet.

Awesome, I think you will notice very big strength increases and denser harder muscles, hopefully also more muscle mass where you want it. There is something sort of overly obvious and common sense about aeting muscle to gain muscle, eating meat to add meat to your body. Yet we were all trained to pump our muscles full of sugar for some reason lol.

Ninjitsu isn't a martial art. It translates to "the art of patience" and is a combination of martial arts, stealth, espionage, survival and many other techniques. It could also be called a way of life and philosophy, but imo it's been dead in any kind of pure and practical sense for decades or centuries. There is no "ninja fighting style" or system.

I do kickboxing and bjj and would recommend anyone looking to do martial arts for health/self defense/fun to do the same.

Thats the way I see kung fu. A lifestyle and way of thinking more than a fighting style. I think hollywood gave us westerners a retarded idea of what kung fu is.

It's mostly speculation on my part, but I think a purely carnivorous raw diet may improve your instincts, reflexes, joint strength and flexibility, all at the same time. The potential downside is loss of bulk that you may use to pin and throw opponents and resist being thrown.

Re: sensing the opponent from behind. When I ate lots of carbs I was frequently startled and taken by surprise by people who approached me from an angle, from behind or from within a crowd. It was annoying. That is happening less and less often since I went carnivorous, and I am starting to detect those same people before they notice me. I seem to be rapidly changing from prey into predator.

Two people I know who went near-Paleo after I gave them some information reported that they have developed a sixth sense for detecting people without seeing them. These are very rational, unsuperstitious people. Years ago I even saw a report on a scientific study that found evidence of this sense. I know almost nothing of martial arts, but if this sense is real and can develop even further, then it may be theoretically possible for a carnivorous martial artist to consistently strike an opponent without even seeing him. In other words, you could not only detect him as he snuck up behind you, but you might be able to strike him in a vulnerable spot without looking, just as he approached you. I wouldn't recommend that, of course (especially in real life, where he might have a knife or gun), but it would be pretty cool if possible.

You know I'll bet your onto something here and this is the kind of thing that really gets me excited about this diet.

yeah that works. good fight mate. that last punch just completely shows you why you protect your chin huh?

thanks

lol ya,   basically the guy was getting lazy because I never showed him any dangerous punches throughout the fight so i lulled him to sleep and then got the easy shot lol

I love standup fighting because I can take anybody's shots (not that that guy could strike but i have been whaled on by some real big boys) and smile but now that I've had my but handed to me by a gracie ju-jitsu guy my focus is the submission game. If you cant beat em join em, and then beat em lol.

I was never an athlete, I just played football / soccer just for fun in school.
I do watch some MMA on YouTube and the local Philippine MMA matches.
Wow, MMA fighter.  :o
Can we preview your fights on YouTube?

http://www.nmefighting.com/

go to the link  ( No Mercy Extreme Cagefighting)   you may have to sign up to become a member (it's free)
then click on fight videos,  then click on past events, go to Anialation 15  and click on the Ison Harness fight. It's an older fight, it goes close to the 3rd round before I knock the guy out. It's one of the only videos I have acess to right now of my fights. I could show you the one where I won my title belt but it's actually a very boring fight. This one is more entertaining overall. Hopefully you can access the site and see it. Let me know if it works out.

Hello!

I don't eat carbs at the moment either. Presently that seems to be working for me.

I look forward to reading your experiences as they unfold!  What does your wife think about your eating raw meat?

She wishes she had the strength to be as uncompromising with her diet as I am,  she is supportive and after watching my physical and mental improvemeants I'm confident she will eventually be doing the same or similar.

SOME people can thrive without carbsbut others like me ultimately die without any carbs at all.

As regards the issue of diet, even a fruitarian/vegan diet can contain fat and protein(they just have to be selective re plant-choices).Similiarly, an all-animal-food diet inevitably contains some carbs, such as in liver, mussels and oysters etc.

So your body wont produce glucose from fat and protein?
