Edit: It's me, Suiren. I forgot my husband was logged in.. l)

I wish we'd quit with the ZC versus high-carb wars, and just admit that our bodies change over time.  In 5 or 10 years, even Lex may find that he needs to add some carbs back in.  And of course, nearly everyone needs more carbs than Lex does.  Low-carb is fine for a while, but eventually, unless you're living in or near the Arctic circle, you probably need to eat some carbs.

That is what I found to be true for me.

psy

I developed new health issues and old issues came back on a cooked paleo diet that was too low in carbs. It really was an accident, I simply left out carb sources without knowing I am only eating about 60g of carbs a day, shared with my son due to breastfeeding.

I had inflammatory pains, digestive issues whenever a carb crossed my way, my thyroid problem returned, I had pms and acne, hair loss...lots of hormone related problems, also chest pain and heart palpitations, fatigue, the list goes on...

Low carb can affect your hormones, which might explain why your growth and  maturing stalled. Too much meat and not much else can also cause your body to be too acidic I believe.

I fixed my problem by adding carbs back and actually do best with more veggies and fruits and not so much meat. And I helped my hormones adjust using herbs. Then I was on an all cooked diet.

I don't think it is the raw diet that caused the problem. It was how much you ate of certain things.

GS, Humaworm doesn't ship to Germany. Do you know any others?

If they are measuring estrogen excreted in urine how do they know that the excess estrogen wasn't just passed?
Yeah, I question the same thing, but why was testosterone lower?

4
So I was planning to start consuming more raw milk because I like it, until I found this study:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19496976

Exposure to exogenous estrogen through intake of commercial milk produced from pregnant cows.

Quote
RESULTS:
After the intake of cow milk, serum estrone (E1) and progesterone concentrations significantly increased, and serum luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone and testosterone significantly decreased in men. Urine concentrations of E1, estradiol, estriol and pregnanediol significantly increased in all adults and children. In four out of five women, ovulation occurred during the milk intake, and the timing of ovulation was similar among the three menstrual cycles.

I definitely don't want my testosteron decreasing and estrogen and progesterone increasing! It sort of make sense to me considering I'm sure cow's milk has a shit load of hormones in it. I wasn't sure if it actually affected our hormones though. So if this is correct, I definitely can't consume dairy. I'm aware it say "commercial milk", but I don't see how that would change anything...

Has anyone got their hormones tested to see if there were any negative results from consuming milk? Please share!

No, she just doesn't have a good command of English slang, and has chosen to make an ass of herself as a result of the misunderstanding.  No worries, I know, as do most people here, that your comment was not rude.
It's a matter of perspective. If someone called my wife "hot" when I was around, they'd better be ready to flex! She has a pretty much perfect understanding of the English language/slang with a perfect American accent, so you have no idea what you're talking about. "Hot" is a trashy word used by trashy people, in MY opinion. It basically means, "I'd have sex with you." I don't take that lightly and neither does she, especially if some random stranger tells her that! If she came off as an ass, especially to people like you, I consider that a great thing!

This is just my 2 cents. I think your going to continue to have trouble keeping weight on, or gaining weight as long as you continue to breast feed. Your baby is getting more and more of your nutrients every single day. Shouldn't your baby be on solid foods already? Remember, what you feed yourself is what your baby is getting as nutrients. I hope you're getting a varied/balanced diet, for your child's sake. I bet once you stop nursing, you will see yourself get stronger and stronger. You don't sound so vibrant and healthy right now. JMO.
We let our son choose when it's time for him to eat solids. He eats solids but only as much as he wants, which is not a lot. I don't expect him to eat solely solids, especially at 1 year old! The only reason most children are mostly on solids around his age is because they are forced to eat overly tasty (processed) foods which obviously causes them to wean. My wife's issues have little to do with breastfeeding as she has always had to eat large amounts of (processed) foods to keep weight on. It's seems to be even harder with raw foods. I'm suspecting it's an absorption issue. I'm skeptical of the idea of fast and slow metabolisms.

I was reading on my husbands computer/ account sorry did not notice :P
Suiren

How is your digestion? In the sense that is it regular?

How is your stools?
Colour, shape, smoothness, soft/hard, ease of passing, gas, odour, # per day, when in day, regularity? Are these descriptions standard day to day or is there variation? Does it float?

They are pretty much the same every day, medium to light brown, sometimes a bit more yellow and soft. Never hard anymore since going off of grains and pasta, does not float, shape is like a sausage lol, I rarely pass gas but recently I had pain combined with softer stools which is gone now though. I experience slight bloating throughout the day but not a big bloated belly, my stomach just seems fuller and not as flat, odour is neutral I would say, I don't really smell it. I go 1-2 times a day, it comes easily.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense. The title is correct as it is

It seems that as long as you don't heat the jerky above 40 degrees celsius, that the bacteria won't be damaged.
Exactly what I wanted to know, thanks!

I want to dehydrate some meat, particularly ground beef. I don't want the bacteria to be killed, but I'm guessing they need the moisture to survive. Does anyone know?

Christ, you've got religion re the mention of a flood. God doesn't exist.  All actions have consequences. You will pay for overpopulating the world through increased population density, with extra costs in the form of accomodation, your grandchildren eventually being forced to live 12+ to a room etc. Rawpalaeo does not guarantee increased intelligence. For all I know, your grandchildren might be crippled 80 IQ morons. Not a long shot, given that dysgenics studies have shown that the rate of genetic diseases have slowly risen every generation since medical technology has advanced, and that the average intelligence of all populations has slowly sunk every generation due to welfare etc. benefitting the morons while the intelligent have stopped breeding. I could mention a study which showed that the more intelligent a woman is, the less likely she is going to have children. As I recall, it was for every 10 IQ points above the average, a woman's chance of having children halved. Think of the film "Idiocracy" for a more accurate portrayal of the future.

All harsh words, but, sadly true. We really need to nuke the 3rd world into oblivion, and treat our own citizens with harsh tests to see if they qualify for pregnancy or not. No more crack-whores getting low IQ, retarded children en masse etc.!
^I can't believe this guy is serious. Does someone need a hug?  ;D

In the book "The Blood Sugar Solution" the author says that:

A study with mice found that when they sterilized the mice's digestive tracts (no bacteria) had 42% less body fat, despite the fact that they ate 29% more calories than the control mice.

When the normal bacteria was reintroduced back into the gut of the mice, there was a 57% increase in body fat despite no other change in diet or exercise.

He also says that when you feed your gut bacteria, fresh whole foods you get bacteria with symbiotic behaviour ( a mutually beneficial relationship between you and the bugs) and when you feed them junk you get disbiosis, a harmful reaction between the bacteria and the host that damages the lining of your gut lining creating a leaky gut. Partially digested food particles and microbial toxins can then leak across your gut triggering an immune response to these foreign proteins. That inflammation in turn damages your metabolism and affects how your brain controls your appetite also creating insulan issues........

He suggests that probiotics will help to repopulate with the good bacteria. however I would argue that doing it naturally with homemade yogurt or kefir and or high meat would be the superior way quicker way.

Ayurveda refers to the partially digested etc stuff leaking out of your gut as Ama. It is the cause of disease, because it travels around the blood till it gets stuck somewhere, where it will tend to build up and then you get sick. Pimples are a perfect example. It's basically sludge. Exercise will help to clean it out as the blood heats up and moves faster so it will clean out better, but at some point there has to be some sort of intervention with some sort of food that acts as a cleanser. Triphala is one of the better, but certainly not the only. Celery juice is a good choice, but again not the only or necessarily the best for you. It's all personal.
That makes sense. I'm also assuming that "fresh" raw foods also have a sufficient amount of bacteria to help repopulate the gut, although probably at a slower pace.

General Discussion / Re: danger of raw liver?
« on: August 08, 2012, 06:18:46 am »
that's what I mean, I know there is no virus or bad bacteria in good liver, but how do you know if the liver you buy is good or not, there's no way to know.
You might get "sick", maybe some diarrhea. No big deal. I think the people that died (0.03%) in this situation had extremely weak "immune systems" (old/other diseases) and/or their conditions were made worse by medications (antibiotics, etc.). I really can't picture myself dying from meat lol

Health / Re: The downside of raw paleo, tiredness?
« on: August 06, 2012, 07:42:08 pm »
Going very low-carb definitely creates some tiredness/sluggishness for a while.  That usually passes after a while, though, depending on the person.

I'm not really sure that's what you are experiencing though.
Can you explain exactly why that is? Does it have something to do with glucose?

Harsh? Try the truth. That's the problem with certain people/members on this site. They can't handle the TRUTH. How long are you going to go on with Charlie? He makes this stupid post, than disappears. He doesn't even have a normal dialog with people who respond to his posts. If he really is mentally ill, you can't help him. Period! If he's not, he's a troll! If you want to play his game, go right ahead. This post is on a public forum, so i have every right to voice my opinion. I suggest you take your concerns and advice privately. PM him! Or is that too much trouble?

He's not Raw Paleo anymore. I doubt he ever was to be honest. If he really wanted your help, he would be working with the forum and it's members. He's not. He doesn't even want to help himself out, so what makes you so sure you can help him out? You can't make him do something he won't or doesn't want to do. How well do you really know Charlie?

Hey, if you don't like my opinion on the matter/subject. Fine. Just ignore it! Believe me I won't loose any sleep over it. I'm stating my opinion on a public post/forum. I have my own opinions and views. I'm not a robot people. I'm not here to cater to, or stroke peoples egos on this site. I tell it how it is. I guess some of you just can't handle an honest opinion? When you make a post, be prepared for different viewpoints.
I completely agree with everything you've said. As far as I know, there has not been a post by the OP asking for any kind of help. It seems everyone is just assuming things, and the OP is just being vague.

I honestly have absolutely no sympathy for him.

Yeah, that's an idea. I definitely would do it with rabbits/hares even if I lived in the city, as I don't think anyone would know I'm raising rabbits because they make no noise.

Hi Suiren
judging by the response to your post, you already have many suggestions.
For what its worth, hopefully your dislike of the foods you are eating will change with time. However, I find eating those foods that are appealing works well for me.
Have you explored the world of nuts?
I too am slender and have benefited greatly from this food: walnuts, almonds, pistachios, macadamias (and even non-nut nuts such as raw peanuts and cashews).
Seek out good quality, raw, fresh nuts and be guided by your taste.
Personally, my attraction to meat foods is small. My diet usually consists of green vegetables, seaweeds, shellfish, fish, some fruit, good amounts of nuts and only very occasionally a very small amount of a red meat such as kangaroo.
But each to their own, and I am sure should you explore a range of raw foods you will start to gravitate to the ones which are most appealing and beneficial at the time. Your sense of smell and taste can be a strong ally and trustworthy guide.
Kind wishes, J

Good advice, I agree. Thanks!

Noel, I don't think you need to focus on self-love. What is loving yourself, anyway? I don't even know what that is. I sure don't love myself, and that is nothing negative whatsoever. I am just content, and I find that far better feeling than loving myself, which I consider VERY artificial. What other animal do you see loving itself? lol none because it's makes absolutely no sense. I'm happy because I'm FREE from picking and choosing what I like and dislike about myself. What does it really matter, anyway? Now that doesn't mean I "let myself go" and don't care how I look. I do care but in a much lighter sense that I never have to stress about.

You have a lot going on in your head, and that's what you need to free yourself from. Appreciating yourself is not necessary, and in my opinion it's counter-productive because you're focused on the wrong issue. If you don't get the key problem fixed, nothing else will be fixed. Down the line you will appreciate things about yourself naturally, and it won't even be a big deal then.

Noel, you really need to relax. Just eat what you want, when you want it. Period. Stop feeling guilty. Who cares what the consequences are? Who cares if it's "bad" for you? You need to get rid of this unnecessary stress first of all. You're not going to make much progress if you're constantly worried about what to eat and when you SHOULD eat it. There is no "should" ANYWHERE in existence. Get rid of "should". You're creating it in your mind, and it's not working so get rid of it.

This will free you. From that new freedom, you will automatically be able to choose what's good for you, when and how much. You won't think about it, worry, or feel guilty because you will always make the "right" choice. When you feel guilty about what you eat, you will KEEP making the wrong choice, which will lead to more stress and binge eating.

So I encourage you to eat whatever the hell you want, even if it's the most UNHEALTHY food imaginable! If you want to, intentionally binge eat and enjoy it! There's nothing wrong about it. Nothing in the entire universe even remotely implies that you shouldn't binge eat.  Eat all the sugar you want, even the processed kind. Who cares what happens?! There might be some consequences, but so what? You can do whatever you want, no one is stopping you. You're free! If you seriously do this, something awesome will happen.

Yeah, I think one meal a day is best, possibly even for humans.

Well, Humaworm can't be shipped to Germany, so no. I'm actually not concerned with parasites. It could be a possibility that Suiren has some kind of parasites tapping her calories, so I think we'll get her checked for that. If it turns out she does, she'll just take the pharmaceutical drug for it. But I honestly think it's unlikely it's parasites because she has had trouble gaining weight all her life.

This is a RAW paleo forum, so we do not cook our foods, including our animal foods.

Nonetheless, welcome!
