Health / Re: Depression
« on: May 15, 2011, 05:59:35 pm »
the way i learned to deal with depression is by accepting:

1 - the utter pointlessness of my life, and therefore the fact that any problems i may have ahead of me in my life ultimately don't matter, because in the long run it's still just a matter of getting old and dying.

2 - the fact that i am nothing but a piece of shit, always was and always will be and i never deserved a life any better than the shit i got in the first place.

our ultimate fear is that of truth.  once you accept the truth you have nothing left to fear.

we are born in total ignorance.  in the first years of our life our parents stuff us with lies and pink illusions and we proceed with our own false hopes and dreams.  then gradually as we come into contact with reality it begins to chip away at our castles in the sky and every time another dream of ours gets shot down we find ourselves on our knees crying ...

that is until you realize it was ALL just a dream - it was never real - there is nothing to lose because it was never there to begin with

Sometimes I wish that someone would beat my head with a baseball bat until I can't critically think anymore. Probably the number one thing that negatively affects my health is news websites. I wish I can be ignorant of it all, yet I still keep coming back to them.

oh you're only in the early stage - don't worry it will get worse.  the news is nothing.  realizing that it always was this way is not the worst either.  even realizing that there is no solution is not the worst.  the worst is realizing that you are part of the problem.

wait till you find yourself literally unable to physically move - then you will know what depression is.  think full-body erectile dysfunction due to absolute zero motivation.  just being asleep in a nightmare with your eyes open.

I train controlled but explosively. Although rare, I have also gotten injuries from lifting too. No risk=no reward to some degree, and this all depends on your goals. I wouldn't train an every day Joe who wants to just improve his quality of life through exercise the same way as a competitive lifter.

I never get injured outside the gym though, if that counts for anything.

IMO competitive sport is childish unless ur gettin paid

General Discussion / Re: Exercise after Eating.
« on: April 16, 2011, 01:52:37 am »
depends on what you eat.  i wouldn't want to exercise after eating at McDonalds ... of course i wouldn't want to eat in McDonalds in the first place.  i DO eat before workout to avoid catabolizing muscle but it's never solid food and never cooked food.  it's always something blended and raw.

Lately i am using a food processor over a Vitamix because it allows me to pack the same nutrition into a smaller volume ( less water ).  This way it doesn't taste as watery and doesn't stretch out my stomach ( which i wouldn't want before a workout ).  Of course the Food Processor will not liquidize salad for example as Vitamix will - but it is perfectly adequate for what i put into it.

i have a meal of light food both before and after workout.  lighter to me means raw and blended, and heavy means cooked or solid.  i will only eat heavy food before bed.

listen to your body i guess.

It has occurred to me that bee pollen can be a pretty good source of carbs ?

are there any known issues with consuming large quantities of it ?

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Re: eggs

Basically detoxing seems to be used as an excuse to explain why people react badly to foods.

i got precisely that impression when i was on a raw vegan forum.  its sort of like "they hate us for our freedom" explanation for 911 attacks.

i used to eat some pretty toxic crap and when i switched to clean food i felt great from the first second.  that's how i knew that all this talk about detoxing is BS.

Cooking at low temps or just lightly searing might mitigate some of these effects but it still has consequences.

i was thinking about getting a slow cooker like this:

do you think it would be a waste ?

Another thing i thought about was i was doing raw eggs yolks with fruit (mainly banana's) - wonder if it is the combo with fruit  ???

it's probably you.  i have eggs in combination with everything ( fruits, vegetables, spinach etc ) without problems.  i add an egg or 2 or 3 to virtually everything i blend up in the blender or food processor - i like how it affects the texture.

i get problems with cooked meat, unblended nuts, coffee and milk.

i don't have problems with whey protein though.

Fetus... What do you propose?

i propose you take responsibility for your actions.  if you have kids you are more or less responsible for all the crap that's going to happen to them with the exception of minor things like car accidents or failed tests for which they will be responsible themselves.

but the fact that they will be forced to pay taxes will be YOUR responsibility.

so when your kids spit in your face you get on your knees and beg their forgiveness.

realize the relationship between Citizen and State parallels almost 100% that of Child and Parent.

sex is a fun past time and rubbers suck.

what a load of crap.  there is abortion for this.

I want kids because

i'm sure your kids care a lot which whim of your immature self is responsible for their life of slavery.

Aiming for 2.5 bodyweight is this a reasonable goal?

2.5 bodyweight is realistic IMO but not at 154 lbs.  maybe at 180 lbs.

i mean there's probably about 60 lbs of weight in you that cannot be used towards lifting - stuff like bones, brain, heart, skin etc.  so instead of figuring 154 x 2.5 it's more like ( 154 - 60 ) x 3.5 or so.  these numbers will work better in terms of bodyweight x 2.5 when your bodyweight is greater because the 60 lbs ( brains etc ) will remain constant.

I've been working out 5 years now and have never injured myself(not during my workouts at least).

that's the point - if you train in the gym you will get hurt outside of it - because slow controlled movements will not prepare you for a real life test.

the problem is that this group of people are glorified, by indirect victims, of the violence they initiate

that's the circle of life to you.  parents abuse their kids to get their love.  women f*ck with their boyfriends' heads to get their attention.  governments put you in prison to get your respect.

you only need ask why a person is born ?  a person is born because somebody needs a slave ( usually that somebody is the parents plus the government ).  if a slave isn't needed in a civilized society a condom or abortion is used.  one day this natural born slave discovers that he doesn't have many freedoms despite being told that he is free and is surprised to learn that :)

the only reason i avoid carbs is for weight loss.  i don't think there is anything wrong with carbs if they aren't making you gain weight.  a 100% fruitarian diet is crap not because its high in carbs but because its low in everything else.

WED: went to gym.

did some power cleans, some chin ups and some cable crossovers for chest.

also ran about half a mile on a treadmill at around 9 mph.  i started from about 7.5 mph and kept increasing the speed to 9.3 mph then when i started feeling a bit of soreness in my abs i hit stop.  that's the way i usually run now - i keep increasing speed until i feel that my body has received the stimulus for adaptation then i just hit stop.

I'm talking about staying light, while gaining explosive strength. Can't be anything negative about that? O0

this explosive strength will almost certainly come at the price of aerobic endurance in an event like marathon.

i am shooting for balance myself.  i just did some power cleans today but i was swimming yesterday and putting on miles on my bike the day before.

when i do cleans its very snappy, pure momentum - in fact its too fast for my own mind to even notice me do it - its done on reflex.  but when i ride the bike it is a smooth continuous motion absolutely even and easy just burning calories.

if you lock yourself into a single type of training you develop weaknesses elsewhere no matter how you slice it.

I don't support any agencies claim that they are right to or obligated to initiate violence to pay for their services.
The idea of small government is a pipe dream, once they have that power they only grow.
Most of us work to obtain money honestly, there is no reason these humans should not.

violence is not the issue.  i debunk that aspect of Stefan Molyneux's philosophy here:

This "functional strength" thing has been a joke around most weightlifting circles. In the real world, if you have a heavy ass deadlift/squat/bench/row your "functional strength" is going to be pretty damn high. People that argue this are not very strong in the first place, obviously they also don't have any real "functional strength".

Don't know where all these people got the idea from that strong=heavy/slow/non-athletic. Probably just spread by all the weak people to grow their e-penor. Sure I can see if you have overly bulky muscle mass or something like a bodybuilder. That guy who just deadlifted 772 at 170lbs bodyweight to break Ed Coan's record is an amazing sprinter--look him up. I'm pretty damn sure he could lift a heavier rock than you functional boys wouldn't you think? How about beat him in a sprint?

I really wish we could smash this stupid functional strength thing right now... just silly and makes the board look bad to strong people. I don't post here much anymore because all the "know it all about everything" people made it difficult to find the good stuff! O0

i am telling you i was deadlifting 4 plates for sets every week with zero issues and the first time i tried sprinting i tore my hamstring.

if you want to repeat other people's mistakes go right ahead.

Most other comments/videos about being anti-tax are plain stupid, naive, selfish, etc. because they don't suggest any other type of societal change(like zeitgeist/venus project does). And to eliminate taxes alone without MAJOR societal change would be moronic and chaotic, and the cause of much human suffering.

yeah whatever, did you read my article ?
