Dorothy... you told yourself you would only scan these forums for info and you have 2000+ posts?

Thank you so much for the suggestions! You're very kind to offer them.

Last night it drained a LOT in the shower. Nasty stuff we're talking here. And today I woke up and the swelling and pain were 90% improved. And by now, tonight, the pain is virtually gone, only when I put pressure on it sitting a certain way (which, as you so intuitively pointed out, is when I'm sitting incorrectly. My posture is something that definitely needs to improve.)
I know that, due to the nature of this, that this doesn't mean I'm in the clear or that it's not going to recur. But to me it means that what I've been doing thus far is helping and I hope to continue improving and for this to not happen again. You are right, it is a great motivator to keep my diet in check. But if it does come back, I will definitely consider your suggestions. DMSO is a great idea but I'm a bit nervous about it too. Someone else on another board suggested using zinc oxide?

I'm glad that it has calmed down after only 2 days. On boards dedicated to this that I've been reading, people deal with this for weeks, months, or even years! I can't imagine that!

thanks again!

Thanks for the response! That what I understand as well, hence me severely lowering my carbs (not that I eat that many usually anyway... however I did cheat 2 days before the cyst showed up... a bunch of corn chips and an entire jar of spicy salsa, and some chocolate... I'm really thinking that had something to do with it, because I had a very difficult bowel movement the following morning, aka the day before the cyst showed up)

Has anyone had these before? Real pain in the ass!  :P

I woke up two days ago and thought I had bruised my tailbone somehow. But then that night I felt around and felt some lumps! Freaked me out!
I haven't been to a doctor or anything, but I'm pretty sure what I have is a Pilonidal cyst.

I've been applying different oils, bentonite clay, and colloidal silver at different times. Also took a warm epsom salt bath the night I noticed it. Last night it burst a little bit in the shower when I was using really hot water (for some reason directly after it burst I experienced extreme nausea, dizziness and confusion and crawling skin for a few minutes but then it passed). It has been bleeding slowly but steadily since then.
The swelling has gone down a bit but the pain is just as bad if not worse.
I really don't want there to be any complications or for it to: get worse/infected/need surgery/come back. Does anyone have any tips perchance?

Other than topically applying what I listed above, since noticing it I've dropped my sugars/carbs to as close to 0 as possible (still getting some from homemade raw kefir but I understand a lot of the milk sugars get "eaten up" by this process), I've started taking raw garlic, upped my coconut oil intake, and have been taking Bentonite and Diatomaceous Earth internally. Started taking a bit of turmeric added to my kefir as well.
So yeah, any tips or experiences?

I know the picture may not look the most appetizing, but in person it actually looks great, and tasted incredible. It's definitely one of my new favorite foods.

To make:

1. Get some raw milk. Let it sit outside the fridge, preferably in a glass container, for about 3-4 days (perhaps more or less depending on temperature) until you can see a visible separation of the curds and the whey. This is more than just the cream sitting on top... you will be able to tell.

Strain this in a cheesecloth-lined strainer over a bowl. What drips into the bowl is whey, what stays in the cheesecloth is the curd. Keep straining until the curd looks decently dry.

2. Scoop the curds into a container. At this point, I will add sea salt to the curds. Keep your curds and whey in separate containers in the fridge. The whey can be used for so many things... skin + hair care, bathing, making lacto-fermented things, making a tonic, etc.

3. When it comes time to eat, pour a little whey into a bowl, then add curds, mix together. Then, I will add berries (in my picture below, I added just-picked off the bush raspberries and currants, and organic blueberries, but you can add whatever you want... or none at all!). Then I drizzle with honey, add a bunch of cinnamon, and stir all together.

Tastes better than the best yogurt, and is truly raw, IMO nutritious, and very digestible. Makes a fantastic breakfast followed by some raw eggs.

Hope someone out there enjoys!

I see, very cool Dorothy.

Do you have a recipe for that raw soup you mentioned? I'd love to try that with her

Ioanna -

Yep, been eating this and giving to the dogs as well. They seem to be doing great on it; one of the dogs had stools on the loose side for about a day or two, but that's done with. I'm doing just fine with it myself.

FZ -

I actually don't find this to be very different from normal ground beef. There is a hint of organ-y taste, but it's not bad. And yes, I can definitely tell through the texture that the fat content is higher than normal, but again, it's not too far off. I kinda like it. For me, it beats eating the organs separately, even though I continue to do so but less amounts. As for bacteria in the ground meat, doesn't bother me at all. I've been eating raw ground beef for years and never had a problem. As for other cuts, I get them as money permits. Just finished up a nice chuck roast last night actually. I miss the days when I could afford grass-fed ribeye... maybe I'll treat myself one of these days.

Jessica -

Is that from north star bison? I saw something from them that is like what you describe. I would have liked to have tried it, but from what I recall, the ground muscle portion was 90% lean, and that's just too lean for me. I'm surprised you have more trouble with heart and kidney than liver, because for me, liver is way less palatable than heart or kidney, which I actually enjoy.

oh I'm definitely familiar with cesar milan. Lena (the dog) is the best behaved (and one of the smartest) dog I've ever met, until she gets a bone. She doesn't act like that with any other food, or at any other time. She is so good that we do not use a leash on her in public, she stays right with us and is always very good. When she gets a bone, it's like she's a completely different animal. I'll look in more detail at cesar's online stuff

how do you recommend changing her? my gf went to take the last bone we gave her away and the dog bit her hand really hard (she's a tiny min-pin/chihuahua mix so it's not like a bite is that bad, physically at least). We got it away from her, and she was on edge for a bit, it took about 1/2 hour for her to become "normal" again. It was almost as if chemicals were slowly draining from her brain.

Cute hearing about these RAF fed pets! My dog gets INSANE whenever we give her a bone. Anyone that comes even close to her will get ferociously growled at, and she will definitely bite you if you try to take it away from her. Which becomes problematic when she's gotten every little last bit of fat and meat off the bone and now wants to eat the bone itself (which she will attempt to do, scrape of tooth by scrape of tooth) and we need to take it from her. She's normally not like that at all.

Good for you. I wish mine would do the same.

How did you get her to do it?

Well, for a while I admit I probably was a bit too pushy about wanting her to change her diet and quite honestly it just pushed her further away from it. Lately I've been really backing off and just letting her do her thing, and she's been observing just how sick and unhealthy everyone around her is, and how I don't get sick even when everyone around us (including her) is. I think she just eventually got fed up with feeling like garbage and thankfully I've been there as a good example. She's a smart one so I guess she made the logical leap. I hope yours does the same, for both of your sakes, because I know just how it feels to have a big disparity in lifestyles within a relationship

Gahh!! I'm really happy right now.

My girlfriend, for the past week, has given up grains and sugars and has been eating all organic. Not quite all-the-way raw paleo, and I don't ever expect her to be, but she has been eating a little raw liver (which is an incredible feat all by itself, knowing her). Her mood and energy levels seem more stable than usual, and her belly has flattened out and her skin looks great, just in this short amount of time. She said she's a believer now and plans to keep it up. I've been waiting a long time for this and just had to share my exuberance!  ;D

also, the "off the grid" photos were incredible... where can I sign up?

20
what's amazing to me, is many of the photos show people preparing grains and smoking, and they still look so much healthier than us. So far, the "shadow hunters" look the absolute healthiest, they are quite fit and happy looking.

Anything except the muscle meats and three organs - I think they are liver, kidney and heart - but not totally sure on that atm memory not kicking in. That's why there are only three organs in Slankers primal meat blend and it has such a high percentage of organ meat. Quite literally - half the weight of the cow is gone.

don't know where you're getting this from... then why can I buy pancreas, sweetbreads, glands, testicles, etc?

i may give this another try since you're doing well with it, but i've given this to my dog and it gave her g.i. issues. also, the organ content is rather low.

Hmm.. I'll have to monitor how the dogs react to it. Like I said, I've only just received the shipment. I've read to expect loose stools for a few days because of the higher fat content than they're used to, but we'll see.

As for the organ content being low... I'm certainly not planning on using it as an organ replacement, but it's nice to get some extra in there anyway

General Discussion / US Wellness Pet burger review

Hello all!

I just today received a large order of US Wellness's Pet Burger. I got it both for myself and also to feed my dogs.
For those who don't know, it's a mixture of 65% lean ground beef (90% of total product) with 5% liver and 5% heart.

I found it randomly while looking on the website... didn't even know of its existence, but I was excited for multiple reasons when I found it. First of all, the price, especially when bought in bulk, can't be beat. Second, both my dogs and I have been lamenting the overly lean grass-fed beef that is available locally. The amount of fat in this mixture is great. Third, who couldn't use a bit more nutrient dense organ meats? Well, I could, at least.

The only thing that made me a bit wary was wondering whether the liver flavor would be very pronounced. I must admit, even though I've eaten raw liver many a time, it's still not my favorite. I was pleased to discover that I couldn't taste it at all, in fact it tastes really good!

May I ask where you ordered the brains from? Like, will they ship anywhere in the US or are they local to you? Are they grass-fed? Just asking because I've never found grass-fed brains available from anywhere

Thoughts on this article? http://www.livescience.com/19425-earliest-human-fire.html

personally I don't care WHEN people started using fire, "easier to digest cooked foods" might be true when referring to starch, but in my personal experience, certainly not when referring to real paleo foods. And there's no denying the problemic compounds created by cooking
