Info / News Items / Announcements / Re: Glucose / Fructose

I think in most of human history, fructose was a rare treat, not very easy to find. We have bred fruits to have a lot more sugar in them than they used to.

General Discussion / Re: Whey PROTEIN

I bought some fancy goat milk protein that was supposedly predigested (fermented), and it tasted like crap. Since I cut out dairy a year ago, it really no longer appeals to me in any form. I think if you want protein you should just add some more meat to your diet.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. What I meant about low carb and PCOS is that a lot of women with PCOS find that the lower they go with carbs, the better their PCOS symptoms are -- the facial hair, weight issues, as well as ovulation problems. And yeah, I'm sure insulin is related to PCOS, so lowering the carbs would help that, right? Dairy does seem to be a problem for me -- yogurt and cheese give me migraines, and milk gives me gas and postnasal drip. Fun!

Are there any other sources of this information besides this website? I would like some more information that might explain this stuff better.

Hot Topics / Raw vegans vs. raw paleo
« on: July 02, 2008, 12:08:48 pm »
I have done a low carb diet, and also a modified paleo diet, and found that definitely carbs do make me gain weight (very rapidly). I have a friend who is doing a raw vegan diet who says that animal protein can also raise insulin, and that a raw vegan diet that is mostly green veggies and low glycemic nuts, seeds and a few fruits like tomatoes is better to control insulin levels and lose weight. I don't know whom to believe. I know that I need lots of protein and I do also eat some green veggies. I do get tired of meat sometimes. Is there any information about the paleo diet and its effects on insulin?

Just a quick intro here. I'm exploring the various diets -- paleo, low carb, etc. I have polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) which causes among other things infertility. Many women with PCOS benefit from a low carb diet, and also from a gluten-free and soy-free diet (it seems to be linked but not officially).
