Does anyone eat red boat fish sauce?

I think it's more like the "garum" that you described but it actually tastes good to me, very salty and umami flavor but definitely a little fermented tasting.

the only ingredients are anchovies and sea salt and they say it is fermented for over a year and raw (dont know how accurate the raw claim is though). I've been eating a bit of it since i think i need salt and i think it might have good probiotics/nutrients, but would just grey/celtic sea salt be better?

You aren't going on one of your schizophrenia rants again are you? Go have another serving of raw liver and brains. Hopefully that will bring you back down to Earth. It's funny, because most of the crap you post is technically "crap". lol . Maybe that's your schizophrenia coming out. I don't know? I'm not a doctor. Hopefully you don't play your own doctor at home. Do you hear voices when you read posts? What sets you off? Misspelled words, grammar, cooked foods, people in general, opinions that you don't agree with? Just trying to figure you out bro? I would advise you eat something first before you post. It "might" help you with your thoughts? On second hand, maybe not. -\ I have a suggestion for you, and this might fit you better that DaBoss88. Schizo88. Just thought I'd throw the 88 in there. I don't know why you'd use that? I mean how many DaBoss's are there in this forum? hehehe

This is so rude and unnecessary... If his spelling/grammar checking bothers you why don't you just say that?

He's healing himself from a mental disorder that is said to only be able to be managed with medication... why are you bringing him down, thats a great thing. He didn't ask to have schizophrenia, and that doesnt even matter because you should still give everyone a basic level of respect. You're really being an asshole.

Also, I would like to know if you respect doctors so much, why you are eating a diet that any doctor would tell you to avoid at all costs?

Instincto / Anopsology / Re: Eating Locally?
« on: January 27, 2014, 01:07:43 pm »
I believe local food, especially produce, is better quality for several reasons:

-not exposed to radiation from being shipped on planes
-not exposed to gases used to make it ripen, picked when it's actually ripe
-no loss of nutrients from sitting for days
-all produce at grocery stores is washed with chemicals (even organic)

but i think the most important reason is that all produce available in grocery stores is grown on huge monoculture farms (small farms dont sell at grocery stores) which is both unsustainable/destroying the planet and creates really low nutrient foods. organic foods sold at farmers markets are grown on small, sustainable farms and are much higher in nutrients

There is a debate about whether or not we are suited to eat exotic fruits, but no matter what the truth of that is, local fruits are definitely higher quality

Thanks!

I actually messaged roguefarmer because i saw his post from a while ago and it sounded really cool. If he doesnt reply ill ask jessica next, thanks for the idea.

I used this website to find a well nearby. If there's one close to you it's way better and also cheaper than a water filter.

Yeah Ive looked at woofing! I found a bunch of farms that looked good, i was just seeing if anyone here had a farm because it would be cool to work at one that was raw paleo.

Hi!

For me what worked best was a gradual transition; i did cooked paleo for probably 6 months before i found raw paleo and during that time i gradually improved my eating habits. Then when i found raw paleo about 6 months ago i started out eating tons of exotic non organic fruits and nuts before i adjusted to raw meats/fats and i am still gradually improving and experimenting with my diet. Reading this forum and listening to the advice is so helpful! As well as just experimenting and listening to your body.

It really didnt need to take a whole year for me to get to this point, i just had a slow learning curve. I think you could do it much faster without any bad effects. If youre really worried about detox you could start out on a couple weeks of cooked paleo while you clean up your diet and then start switching things over to raw. Just depends if youre more comfortable with gradual changes or cold turkey (haha...pun)

But really, dont worry about detox. From reading this forum, i dont think anyone experiences more than a little diarrhea and tiredness as a detox and for just a couple days. Just do what feels right! Plus planning 4 years ahead isnt very intincto  ;)

Also, for me i tend to overthink things a lot and this is actually what causes the most problems. I think its sort of a placebo effect. For example, if i convince myself something is happening then its all i can think about and it causes problems, but if i can make myself relax and go with the flow its all alright. Maybe worrying about a detox is actually what will cause you to have one!

Im still figuring out what works best for me but what ive noticed so far is that i feel best when i get plenty of animal fat (bone marrow, suet, fatty fish, tongue) and go easy on the fruits and nuts. (I think i gravitate towards fruit and nuts because they're what's familiar and what i've been taught to like, but maybe it's also not so instincto to purposely avoid them...who knows) Any food, including fruit, that is organic and from a small, local farm makes me feel millions times better than anything from a store/supermarket. Also, i definitely feel better when eating a bit of organ meats, seafood, and seaweed!! (a great suggestion from jessica). But, what works best for me might not be best for you, so i think its all about experimenting.

I think its awesome that youre incorporating other paleo elements into your life, I've been meaning to try going barefoot and also sleeping on the ground! Recently ive been trying to get outside in the sun and walk more, and also taking cold showers and it actually really helps a lot!

Good luck on your raw paleo journey! Iguana probably has much more info about this and about the books.

Thanks! I live in seattle but i could go anywhere in the us.

I posted on here first because i was hoping to find a raw meat eating farm, but my next stop was to look somewhere such as wwoof. Thanks again that would be great!

Looking for a grass fed livestock farm who needs an intern

I am done with living here in the city. I need move around, see the world, connect with nature, meet people with similar interests. I want to learn about living a natural lifestyle, grass fed farming, hunting, fishing, gathering wild foods, “primitive” skills, healing, etc etc. I want to get out of the capitalism, greed, competition, destruction, oppression that I see in society today. I am very young, maybe I am just naïve and passionate and impatient but I have the overwhelming need to live how we are meant to live. Not the way I am living now.

I would love to have the opportunity to work and learn on a grass fed livestock farm. I’ve grown up in a city so I’m not claiming to have any great knowledge or experience, but I think I am a quick learner. After starting to eat raw paleo, I began to develop many new interests and I’ve done a lot of reading on different aspects of farming. I am very enthusiastic and hard working so I hope you will consider having me as an intern on your farm :)

Eventually I want to travel the world. My dream is to wander around the world working on organic farms, learning to hunt and fish, picking fruit, camping under the stars, learning how people lived traditionally in different areas. A modern hunter-gatherer if you will… I can’t do this yet. I need to be older and more knowledgeable and have skills so I can get by.

I’m just a teenager. I have a ged, I’m going to community college, and I’m working to save money, but this isn’t where I want to be. I hope you won’t ignore this simply because I’m young. I have a whole life ahead of me but there’s no point in wasting it where I am now.

Sorry if this is vague, but there is so much I want to do and I don’t know where to begin, I guess I’m thinking that a good place to start would be learning and developing skills while working on a farm. So basically; I am wondering if there is anyone out here who has a farm they need help on, or even just like minded people who are on the same path and want to connect and make something happen.

I don't think it's so much the fact that the fruit wasn't grown in your area originally, but that any exotic fruits you can buy were grown on huge monoculture farms and shipped long distances so they are low in nutrients and are sometimes treated with stuff to make them ripen or stay fresh.

You could go to a local farmers market where the produce is sure to be from your area. Then you will know it is local and similar to what types of fruits would grow wild in your area.

Also I think that fruit from organic local farms is better for you than huge farms because it has more nutrients and is grown in a more wild way so it is closer to the wild thing. When I eat fruit from the grocery store I break out and have stomach problems but local fruit from the farmers market seems to be OK.

The only produce I've been eating from the grocery store lately is jicima.

SO, i think any fruit that is grown locally on small farms will be most similar to what would grow native/wild.

Ok I'll see if I can find that book at the library, thanks!

I looked for fresh seaweed but can't find it anywhere. The only type I can get is packaged and dried, probably at high temperatures. Would it still be worth it?

I've tried tongue, heart, and liver. The tongue was the only one I liked but it was really expensive so I won't be able to get it often. I also got a spleen and a kidney from slankers so I'll try those when my order comes. I really want to try brain but can only get corn-fed veal brain so I guess I'll have to wait on that one.

The bumps are slightly oblong but definitely more round than oval shaped. I don't have one in the same spot on both sides, but the one on my neck is on the right side and the one on the back/bottom of my head is on the left.

What I've been eating now:
A couple pastured egg yolks
A couple pieces of fruit (almost always organic local pears, but occasionally organic bananas or something else)
some celery and/or kohlrabi
grass fed beef (1/2 lb on average, sometimes more sometimes less)
1lb grass fed marrow bones (this is really expensive so I ordered grass fed beef/buffalo fat from slankers which should come soon)
Occasionally some seafood such as clams, mackerel, or salmon eggs

My health is good, my acne is improving since I added more fat and stopped eating huge amounts of exotic fruits.

Before, I didn't like marrow bones at all, but once I started eating them, after a couple days I love them now! I'm hoping the same thing happens with organs but if I buy an organ I can usually only have a couple bites and give the rest to my dog :/

Health / lump on neck/ swollen lymph nodes
« on: November 13, 2013, 11:53:21 am »
Hi, so I posted a couple weeks ago about acne which has actually been getting much better! This diet has definitely improved my health in many ways.

But about 2 weeks ago I noticed a lump on the right side of my neck and another one at the base of my skull. The one on my neck has definitely grown a little bit in the past 2 weeks. It is round, hard, painless unless I really push on it hard, and somewhere between the size of a pea and a marble.

Based on where these 2 bumps are, I think they might be lymph nodes. I was thinking this is some sort of detox but now I'm not sure since I think it's growing. Is there anything I can do to stop it? Should I go to a doctor?

Thanks

UPDATE:
I have taken all your advice into account and my acne is improving rapidly! I'm really starting to like animal foods more too. I'm still learning to listen to my instincts to know what I need and when to stop, but I think it's getting better.

The past few days I've been eating:
3-4 egg yolks
1-3 pieces of fruit (bananas, or something more local, like pears)
sometimes some jicama
wild seafood (mackerel, tuna, or clams)
grass-fed muscle meat
1-2 marrow bones

Wow, thanks for all the responses! From everyone's advice, I think I will definitely start out trying to eat more animal foods of all types and less fruit.

Cherimoya kid - Interesting, I assumed that bananas were worse than grapefruits because they are grown in central america, while grapefruits are grown closer to my area, california or florida. Is there a reason that watery fruits are worse?

jessica - I have always been skinny even on a sad diet, and I haven't changed weight for about 2 years. I haven't been eating dairy because I thought it was not paleo? I know some people eat it but I haven't tried it because I feel like I'm changing so many things at once that I wouldn't be able to tell if it was working or not.

Dr D - Yes Seattle has so much great seafood! I'm not a fan of oysters but I do really like clams and tuna, so I've been eating those. My parents aren't crazy about this, so I don't eat raw meat/fish in front of them, but they know I'm doing it and aren't stopping me either.

Iguana - Yes, I read GCBs book about a month ago from the link that was posted on this forum and have been trying to put his instincto theories into practice. This was why I was asking especially for help in the instincto section. Coming from a slightly different point of view from everyone else, do you have any input about adjusting my tastes to more meat and less fruit? And about why I am still getting acne? I was hoping there would be some other solution but it sounds like I might just have to cut out fruit and force myself to get my food from meats and fats until i start to like it.

19
jessica - i ate a lot of berries during the summer but now they are very expensive or not available at all. One reason I want to eat more meat and less fruit is that meat is cheaper for me than fruit. I ate the grapefruit pith but not the rind. I don't eat seaweed because I have been unable to find fresh, only dried. I was considering harvesting it myself bc i live in seattle, but i did some research and read that you shouldn't eat seaweed in my area because the water is polluted. I have access to all types of fish, and grass fed beef. I don't have access to any chicken or pork that haven't been fed grains, should I eat grain-fed (but pasture raised) chicken/pork. I have been unable to find any wild meats.

van - Thanks for the advice, I will try eating fruits and meats at completely separate meals. I did buy grassfed beef fat but it was dry and crumbly and tasted terrible. I do sometimes spread the bone marrow on slices of beef, but can only do small amount because I don't like the taste of the marrow. For the first month of this diet I was eating a lot of macadamia nuts (almost 1 lb a day!), but I found out they weren't actually raw, and I was craving them in such huge amounts that I just stopped eating them entirely. I havent found any truly raw nuts and I don't really like avocados. I agree that I definitely need more fats, which is why I want to teach myself to like bone marrow. the only type of fat that tastes good to me is nuts but I'm not sure thats the best option in huge amounts and i can't get them raw. I live in the pacific northwest, so I for sure need more fats for winter, I just don't know how to teach myself to like it! I want to like bone marrow because it's the only thing I always have access to.

cherimoyakid - I am 115 lb, 5' 6", female, and 16 years.

ys - I know it is partly mental but I also just don't like the taste! I usually like the taste of plain raw beef and fish in small amounts though. I dont have access to kidney, spleen, or lungs, but i have tried heart and liver. the liver i really didnt like and gagged after only 2 bites. the heart was ok in small amounts but i much prefer muscle meat.

Thank you for all the replies so far, this is very helpful

Hi, I'm new here and I've been reading everything on this forum for a couple months and been eating 100% raw for about 2 months. My story is as follows. A couple years ago I had terrible acne over every inch of my face. I went on accutane and that cleared it up but when i finished the accutane it came back and i had to take accutane a 2nd time. Both times I was on accutane I had terrible bone pains, dry lips and skin, and mood problems. about halfway through my second course of accutane I found the (cooked) paleo diet and immediately stopped taking accutane and eating cooked paleo. This helped my acne a lot, but I kept having to get stricter and stricter with my diet to have relatively clear skin. I was breaking out more than usual when I found this raw paleo diet and have been eating it since then for 2 months.

Here is what I eat every day:
3-4 fertile, pastured egg yolks
about 1/4 lb wild fish or grass fed beef
mature coconut water and meat (1 coconut lasts me 3 days usually)
a lot of fruit (papaya, mango, plum, banana, pomegranate, etc)

I have 3 questions:
1. I find myself craving mostly fruit. Sometimes I crave meat and fish but only in small amounts. I always eat animal foods first. I find organ meats and bone marrow downright repulsive. How do I make myself like animal foods more?
2. I crave tomatoes and grapefruit SO much but they both give me gas and diarrhea. Especially grapefruit, one day I ate 6 before I reached a stop and I had bad gas all day and diarrhea the next morning. I don't think this is detox, but could it be? How could something taste so good if it's bad for me?
3. I am still getting acne, it is smaller and not as inflamed but still lots of little spots, mostly on my cheeks? any advice?

Thank you so much for this forum and all the knowledge that everyone here has :)
