General Discussion / Re: Wow! Success!
« on: February 01, 2015, 03:04:39 am »
I'm so far having another great day. I woke up much earlier.

Okay so the foods I eat daily are
A banana + tumeric root smoothie (I don't know if this is paleo. I used this for my sore knees and now eat out of habit)

Raw oysters, fish, also sardines (are these raw?)
Raw beef organs/muscle meat. Chicken hearts. Liver (any species, but I mostly come across chicken) I looooooove raw liver (I HATE it cooked)
However I am still eating all pork muscle meat cooked.
Broccoli, berry fruit (blueberries strawberries etc)

What I have been doing lately is I always eat that smoothie after waking. I eat a cooked meat meal (pork chops) if I happen to feel like it. If not, I skip out for a veggie/fruit or raw meal. If I do eat cooked, I will eat the raw 8 hours later to avoid digestive upset.

Thanks for all the help :) I am amazed how fast this worked on me!

I've only been doing this for a few days, and if some of you read my older post, I have seriously bad asthma and fatigue. So I have been easing into this diet and notice changes already!

So today I JOGGED with my dog at the park. This is the first time in months I was able to do this. Not only was I able to jog, but I walked on the sand bars along the river and even hiked a trail. All of this was 2 hours worth of activity and, I didn't need the inhaler once, nor did I need the neb when I got home. My fatigue is easing off. I woke up today and actually didn't lay in bed an extra 2-3 hours. I heard my alarm, my cat attacked me, I woke up and didn't take a nap on the couch (which used to be routine after waking up). I went out to the park and did a lot of activity (My dog sure enjoyed the extra fun lol).

I'm still not on full raw paleo but taking a slow approach. I eat pork and chicken cooked still but organs, seafood, oysters, fish, beef, veggies, fruit etc are raw. (I space my cooked and raw meals out from each other for about 12 hours).

I'm also, like, never hungry. I used to want to eat all the time.

Yesterday was when I began to notice a change. I didn't need an inhaler for a short jog and the walking, but only needed a neb after getting home. Today I needed neither :)

I have not tried aged yet, but mine is in the plastic still. I am on fresh meats for now. I ate more raw meat tonight.

I liked it, and my family allowed me to eat it. I am still new to this and I know I need to get grass fed sources, but it was a curiosity tasting thing. My dog and cat were all over me, thinking it was theirs since they eat raw themselves.

So, I still have a lot of these little beef chunks, so how do I store it? Freeze it? Can it sit in the fridge? Should I put it in a new package or container.

I'm going to butcher some roosters on Saturday and I'm thinking on eating their organs. I have never eaten an organ straight from a freshly killed carcass before, so can I do that or should I wash and leave overnight? These are naturally raised roosters I own myself who eat just about everything lol.

I'm sorry I have so many questions lol!

I am on gluten free now. Over the summer I slacked off it for a couple months and it may be why I have been so bad off but I am back on gluten free and hoping everything gets better. I may also try the magnesium thing too.

So today I went to my local grocery store and looked at my options for raw paleo. It's a "Save-A-Lot" and there is no info the meat, just the price tag. How can I tell if it's grass fed? Do I avoid this meat? We have tons of naturally raised cattle farms in the area and I'm wondering if this could be from their stock?

Thank you all for the advice!
So I read a bunch on here and shown my mother some of the content and info and she gave in. She said I am my own person so I can eat what I want, if it helps, she won't object. She didn't think there would be a whole community of raw eaters and I guess since showing her that there are loads of others who eat this way, she was okay with it. So, I can start this diet and actually do it completely!

And yes, my asthma could be allergy caused because I do suffer from allergies every day just about lol. I am going to get allergy tested soon and I know I do have a gluten intolerance. I suspect either mold, or, the climate. I am from northern Maine (sub arctic climate), where the air is cooler, cleaner and mold doesn't thrive. I moved to Tennessee (temperate region) where mold is naturally in the environment all year round, hotter, pollen all the time, etc. I currently use Zertec to keep my allergies somewhat handlable but I know it's not fixing it. I'm hoping I can one day ditch that.

Okay so I have been here before to lurk around and I dropped off the earth lol.

Anyways, for around 3 years now, I have struggled with adult onset asthma and real bad fatigue. I don't think I have asthma in the textbook way, because it built up into asthma. I began with this weird, whistlely sound in my lungs (back then this didn't bother me), but no one knew what it was. So it developed into asthma. Anyways, I also have real bad fatigue. Some days I can sleep the entire day away. I nap constantly. I get exhausted for just going out to feed chickens for 3 minutes. I am constantly short of breath. I am on the nebulizer sometimes 12 times a day. On "good" days it's around 3 times. I think something else is wrong that is causing these issues. It's hard though when medical professionals basically hint "You have asthma, you always will. Deal with it, accept it and stop fretting over it because it can't go away." I never used to be like this. I used to hike all day, I used to run for long periods of time with no issue. I could swim, I could travel. Man, I really used to love life. I'm MISERABLE now. At the point now that I think death is a mercy  (I'm not suicidal, I am meaning, if I died from an asthma attack I'd be totally fine because I wouldn't be suffering.) When you go from fit and able to climb up some of the highest points in the Appalachia with no issue to living mostly indoors gasping every day you'd probably have the same dismal outlook lol.

I am not new to raw meat. I sneak in raw hearts and muscle meats and liver occasionally (I feed my pets a raw diet, so when I get new meats in, I eat bits here and there when everyone is in bed) In fact, I sometimes heavily crave it, especially when I see it sitting there in walmart. My family is against this and discourages it. I do however eat raw fish/seafood and that is no issue. Other than that, anything else is "gonna give you worms or kill you".

I want to do this diet full out because I am at my wits end. My asthma meds only treat temporarily, they don't prevent. There's nothing helping my fatigue at all.

So, what can I do? Any tips?

I am defiantly going to try that dehydrator. I should be able to make it tomorrow hopefully :)
Thanks for all the information and help too, guys.

Eric, that Least Weasel is adorable! Weasels and their relatives are my favourite animals. The closest I have to weasels is their cousins, ferrets.  I have 3 ferrets and they eat raw paleo too! Livers, hearts, raw chicken, mice etc lol.

So I don't need a dehydrator to make this dried meat? Can someone give me instructions to do this drying method. I'd like to try it. And would those "beef stirfry" strips be good for this?

My name's Ashley.

I have a pretty bad wheat/gluten intolerance that for years, made me suffer from server asthma that even so much as doing simple tasks left me having a nebulizer near me at all times. Feeding the pets = breathing treatment. Walking to the other side of the house = breathing treatment. Sleeping was a hassle because I'd need a neb treatment 4-5 times a night.  I spent most time at home because going down town was a stressing experience. Then though, I wasn't fully aware of my diet. I avoided just bready foods but a lot of what I ate that had gluten wasn't downright bread. That's where my issues lied. As a result of gluten damage, I also lost my gallbladder and for a time, lost vision in my right eye (during the time when my gallbladder was rendered useless).

It was during a bad asthma attack I had while cleaning the ferret room that made me research into paleo. I've been on it for awhile now and my asthma is very controllable and I use a neb 1-2 times a day and it's getting easier as time goes by. I can now hike and travel again, enjoy hunting and trapping again and actually leave into town without anxiety.

I eat a mixture of cooked and raw meat simply because my family is very squeamish and think raw meat will land me with tapeworms and rabies. I have to eat my raw meat out of sight and my cooked while with my family. I hope to take in a lot more raw meat and get more education on the matter here.
