New Honey Bee Farming Technology: Revolutionary! FLOW HIVE
« on: March 11, 2015, 08:58:59 am »
This tech should make honey bee farming reachable for more people.

For those of us who haven’t actually harvested honey, here’s a wee peek into what is involved: First, there’s a whole lot of protective gear. Then you have to smoke the hives to sedate the bees and transport the hives to a place where they can be processed. After that, the hives have to be cut and put into an extractor to remove the honey. Throw in the process of cleaning all that backup, and you can see why it’s such a daunting task. Not to mention that you’re on the clock: All of this has to happen before the bees wake up.

With a the Flow Hive, you turn a tap and honey flows out of the homes into containers. Win!

Uh oh... here come the detractors.

Of course nothing beats the real thing... just like free range eggs and wild honey.

Seems this new honey farming method needs to be labelled so people know they used a FLOW HIVE.

I live in an urban environment here so cannot use bees. I do have a villa in Italy which has a large garden full of insects, including bees sometimes. The only trouble is that the honey from bees depends on the pristine nature of the flowers in the neighbourhood. We do have flowers in our Italian garden and one of the neighbours, but all other gardens on the coast are intensively farmed with a hefty use of insecticides so that those 2 gardens are the only ones containing insects like butterflies. The other problem is that I am only there for a few weeks a year and I assume that beekeeping is a constant job requiring lots of attention.
