I think it is always important to read the news sources from opposing sides from time to time.Sometimes, after sifting though a lot of muck, one can occasionally come up with some gems. For example, in the above cited article, the hopelessly biased scientist mentions that palaeo-era fruits had a much lower water-content and much lower sugar-content. This suggests that a palaeo ideal should be to stay away from using high sugar fruits as large staple of the diet. Not always possible, admittedly, but I have at least done some experimentation with more unusual fruits such as medlars when in the UK(they are only edible when rotting after becoming ripe).
I do the same as regards reading the Guardian. Most of their articles are fact-free(they have always relied on Reuters for their foreign news unlike the DT used to etc.), being full of emotion, written by people who, in more ancient, healthier times, would, quite understandably, have been burnt at the stake for their beliefs or at the very least imprisoned/sectioned for long periods. Yet, amazingly, they sometimes do seem to get better info, usually on themes like the environment/pollution, and even the Middle-East/US-ongoing wars.
