Arsenic: don't eat your vegetables
« on: October 07, 2018, 05:14:37 pm »
Arsenic is present in veg (dark leafy greens, cabbage, brassicas), root crops (such as carrots, beets, radish etc), fruits juices (apple, pear, grapes), rice, organic or not, makes no difference (and brown rice has much higher levels of arsenic), seaweed.
Veg with less arsenic are "fruit" veg such as cucumber, tomatoes, squash.
Groundwater can have high arsenic levels, and rice from Texas for instance is more toxic than in other places in the US, because of previous cotton fields being contaminated with the toxins that are stored in the earth for a long time.
There is also some talks about arsenic in seafood, mussels, dark meat fish, but some say it's a different kind of arsenic and not as toxic. Another source of arsenic is non organic chicken, as they are fed food laced with arsenic, it makes them grow faster and increases their appetite. And the chicken manure of these chickens, used very often on rice fields and other, is full of arsenic.
Bangladesh has a huge arsenic problem in its groundwater, and so all the crops are more or less contaminated and some crops absorb more of the toxins than others (rice, leafy greens, some fish, potatoes, root veg).
