Hi to everyone!
New here, and not sure how to get started.
I'm in the US, in Las Vegas, NV. Older fellow, overfed, under exercised American. Guilty as charged.
I've got my share of health issues, and I know something has to change. And that means me and what I eat!
I grew up on and lived much of my adult life eating cheap carbs and sugar. I'm sure many know what I mean.
Some history. My apologies if I put you to sleep!
As a young man traveling on my own many, many years ago, I ate a meal on the road that I remember to this day. It was simple and it should not have been memorable, but at 50+ years of age I remember it today. The meal was purchased at a small Mom-n-Pop store in some unremembered backwater place in rural USA. It consisted of a semi-dried meat product packaged in a small glass jar that would double as a juice glass later, an apple and two cold bottles of beer. I remember feeling refreshed and energized and like I had ingested what I needed to thrive. I remember that. At the time I had no idea why. Then, it was soon forgotten and I returned to my usual business, and life went on.
Fast forward to the early 80's and my experience with the "Drinking Mans Diet." I lost a lot of weight and suffered more than a few bouts of concrete colon, but generally I felt OK with this. Again I didn't know why.
All pounds regained and many years later I sorta went Paleo. Meat, fruit, vegetables, nuts and berries. Cheating with heavy cream, butter and occasionally beans. I lost some pounds but not enough. I did this for over a year and never felt better. But it didn't last. So much prep and it cost more money.
Now I've got two stents, diabetes, and kidney stones. I'm on half a dozen meds a day.
Cheap carbs and sugar may be what makes 7 Billion people on this planet possible, but frankly, those two things are killing me!
I gotta eat what I was evolutionarily designed to eat. I gotta start now! I feel like time is running out...
And...
TAG! You're it!
I need your help to get started. How do I choose a diet? How do I find out and really know what is right for me?
