So why do we need shoes?
« on: February 20, 2010, 03:16:45 pm »
I know somebody that as a child would walk around barefoot all the time. Because of this he had foot problems and had to get surgery to fix it. Why did this happen? Shouldn't his foot be able to take the strain?

He had foot problems? Do you mean he had foot problems wearing shoes?

As absurd as this would sound to most people, even myself 6 months ago, I agree 110%.
Walking barefoot is the best thing you can do for the feet. If someone has to have surgery as a result of it then either they have a deformity of some form of diet is wreaking havoc .

I seldom wear shoes and often walk for several miles at a time on asphalt and cement with no problems.  Since I'm in Southern California, I can go barefoot winter and summer.  For me, one of the great joys in life is to splash about barefoot in the rain.  Been doin' that since I was a kid and I guess I've never out grown it.  I can walk on hot pavement with ease in the summer as well.

I don't know all his details, so I can't tell you.

I've ran(and walked) through the summer and the winter; sun, rain and ice barefoot. I'd never run, travel long distance by foot or play a (foot)sport with shoes on again. They're very useful to keep warm when you're inactive though =) Shame that it's hard to get hold of soft-soled winter-boots.

Unfortunately all i know is that this was when he was 5-7 years old and he would go barefoot all the time. The doctor told his family since hes always barefoot he needs this surgery because he was having severe pains in his foot.

If he had surgery without trying anything else he's stupid.
