My latest predicament...
« on: April 17, 2010, 05:04:27 pm »
Although my new raw paleo diet is doing great im having problems getting enough animal and saturated fats. I have been eating marrow but the co-op i buy it from only meets once a month. Besides that I have no grass fed fat I can get regularly. The grass fed beef from whole foods is very lean which is the only meat I can buy regularly. So I was wondering are there any substitutes? I can't eat butter or dairy. The only other animal fat I can get is eggs and some wild caught fish but I don't think thats enough. I can get coconuts which is probably a decent substitute due to its saturated fat but I was wondering are there other sources of saturated fats I'm not thinking of?
thanks

I thought most Americans had vast freezers in which to store their foods. Surely it might be possible to save up some cash and just bulk-buy the grassfed marrow once a month from the coop, so that it lasts a whole month each time?  I wouldn't be too bothered re the issue of saturated fats. Also, eating raw lean meats is fine as long as you're eating some raw carbs as well.

I mostly always  buy to last me 2 weeks. That way, I only have to store 1 or 2 raw meats(the few prefrozen ones, of course) in the freezer, leaving the rest in the fridge.

I've been using back fat from grain-finished animals (not feedlot beef) for more than a year. Available on request+a few weeks from a primary butcher - this is the one at the abattoir.

I didn't realize this was a stereotype for Americans. I guess its a true one seeing as I do have a very large freezer. Currently I can go out and buy that much bulk on marrow bones as they are quite expensive.

So im just looking for some everyday alternatives.
