Oysters

Where do most paleo-dieters get oysters and other shellfish? I occasionally get a few when ordering sushi restaurants but am looking for a good source to buy them in bulk from. So far eating oysters gave me benefits.

Do you live on either coast line?  I'm pretty much right in the middle of the country and haven't found anything that is not farmed.  What benefits have you noticed from oysters?

I live on East Coast (NYC) and found a few suppliers. I noticed many physical benefits (as well as psychological) after eating oysters, including more energy and nerve stability.

ahhh, I grew up very close to NYC, but in CT.  I guess I'll have to try oysters when I'm visiting friends/family.  I've tried some here, but they were farmed and I didn't do very well with them. In NYC, there is probably a network of raw and/or paleo??

I just sourced some farmed oysters and mussels. It seems that they are not fed anything. They just control the sea water quality. Is that the same as wild?

The oyster farms I've seen are just rafts with iron chains hanging from them. The oysters grow on the chains, and feed themselves from the clean offshore water.
More accessible oysters are picked off the beach at low tide, and get the crappy (literally) runoff from the land, so "farmed" are likely to be cleaner.

My office is beside the biggest wet market in the city.
I get oysters anytime I want them.  :D

I get excellent raw wildcaught oysters of vast size from a fishmonger at my local farmers' market. I avoid buying any farmed shellfish like the plague as they are often harvested out of season; plus the farmed shellfish are much less tasty and usually much  smaller, with softer shells.
