Omega 3's ?
« on: July 04, 2010, 08:58:20 am »
I get my Omega 3's from seafood.I notice a lot of people here are more partial to land animals, which is cool, but where are the Omega 3's coming from? Or does it matter?

I have blue marlin sashimi regularly and fertilized duck eggs.  I don't know if that is enough.

I eat pure ZC so I eat very little omega 6s. I do take Trader Joe's omega 3 once a day, but otherwise, I am not concerned. I care only about being ZC and mainly raw.

Here's a link to an omega 3 & 6 chart
http://www.eatwild.com/images/gr_essential_fat.gif

idk if the chart is correct

i am assuming salmon with skin is higher than all land animals?

but
wild land mammals probably generally provides the best nutrition i am assuming, more available to our ancestors than fish,

Thanks for the responses. I just found this article though:
 http://www.articlesbase.com/nutrition-articles/the-land-meat-that-rivals-wild-salmon-in-omega-3-content-grass-fed-beef-other-grass-fed-meats-2611048.html

I don't know the writer or how reliable the info is,but I think you'll get a kick out of it.

I think most people need to be concerned about the ratio of 3:6's. The more consumption of 6's in grain fed meats or o6 containing plant fats and oils, the more one should be concerned in in-taking 3's from raw sources.

That said I do think that eating a variety of EFAs from natural sources is often ignored or shrugged off, and despite how our ancestors ate the benefits of seafoods in particular for many minerals in addition to fats are valuable in modern society. No animals or humans eat from the same source and the same animals year to year or even day to day. The mercury issue is pretty hotly contested, especially in comparisons of raw which on the surface makes no sense. But they are present for those who wish to read.
