Can you help me figure out this symptom?
« on: January 21, 2012, 06:06:33 am »
I was wondering if I write out what I am eating, you guys could point out what you think the most likely culprit to causing intestinal gas would be.  I used to get it REALLY bad especially after meals (where my stomach would look so bloated it looked like I was pregnant!) when I was eating mostly cooked food paleo; now its barely noticable by looking at me, but I can feel it and it bothers me in a sort of underlying general "uncomfortable" feeling.  Plus, it's obviously not normal to have excess gas in your intestines!
If it helps, it seems like it usually shows up as "gas" in my lower intestines, because by doing certian yoga poses it will eventually work its way out.  If I don't do this, and just let it sit there, it seems to constipate me?

So I can't figure out if its what I previously ate, or what I just ate that is causing it!  It really has no smell at all.  Some days it goes away, but not often.  My going-#2 pattern is usually pretty regular now, every morning after drinking my citrus tea/eating fruit.  When I tried eating salads for a couple of days (before my meat by at least 30 min) it *seemed* to be a little worse, maybe.

Another concern is that along with this gassiness, I haven't been feeling the best lately; not sure if I'm low vitamin D, or its just the cold weather, or if its something I'm eating, but I feel sort of lethargic and spacey a lot.  My tingly feet thing seems to be going away, though--I rarely feel it any more.  I do have some fermented CLO coming in the mail, and have been sporadically going indoor tanning.

What I'm eating~
Morning--about 1 piece of fruit (usually apple, orange, or grapefruit) and a glass of warm water with lemon or lime.
About an hour later--some type of meat and fat maybe with some sea salt and/or fresh or dried herbs, with fermented veggies (ginger carrots or sauerkraut or radish kimchi) for a condiment.  Sometimes some soured cream mixed with bone marrow and raw honey.
Afternoon (once I get to work)--about 1 piece of fruit (same), maybe a little piece of raw milk chedder, and some more warm water with lemon/lime.
5pm--meat/fat/fermented veg/marrow+honey/fermented dairy again.  Sometimes a few in-shell hazelnuts.
9:30-10pm-ish--whatever meat/veg etc that I have left over from my 5pm meal.
11pm--a small snack of either fermented dairy/hazelnuts/marrow/leftover meat etc.

I was kind of thinking of trying that, GS!  Thanks for suggesting it.  Ugh...although its going to be hard haha...I do love my raw meat now, but I like variety in my meals!
I guess I'll start tomorrow, and then see if my problems go away.  If they do, then I'll try adding foods back in one at a time and see what happens.

My suggestion would be to try removing the dairy for a week and seeing if that helps and another week try removing the fermented vegetables with your meat and see if that helps.

If a diet is really broad, complex and bad sometimes you have to cut everything out and add things back in one at a time to see what who is the culprit - but your diet is already so clean and narrow that you can probably easily figure it out by cutting out one thing at a time until you notice that the gas is gone. The only problem would be if it is more than one thing. But..... you would probably notice improvements even if you get rid of part of what is making the problem.

I agree with GS. Plant foods are always the culprit for my intestinal gas.

It could be food combining, too.  Your lunch sounds like you're mixing too many different foods.  I would try to avoid mixing meat and veggies, especially.
