This proves once again that hospitals are far too expensive. The state hospitals make one wait in long queues or refuse to fund the right treatments or you go to a private hospital where you pay vast sums. Always try to self-medicate first if you can:-

That is a total rip off.  It should scare the TOURISTS away.

first of all, the payment is negotiable.  one can easily negotiate with the hospital for 50-75% discount.

second, one can choose not to pay that sum at all.  the only downside is bad credit history for about 7-10 years.  if someone does not plan to apply for home/auto loans this should not be an issue.

i don't think it will scare tourists.  there is not much to do in Phoenix in the first place.
