The policy of allowing immigrants is a broader concept than one of fertility rates and population increase. I, too, live in a country that is attractive to people of other nations because of our civil liberties and economic opportunities. Yes, even in an economic downturn like we are experiencing now, our poverty level is not as dire as elsewhere on the globe. You have plenty of proof of this in your own country, where so many of your citizens leave to eke out a living or find a trustworthy husband in the US.

The article that TD posted is a polite way of suggesting to immigrants that unrestrained human propagation is not desirable in an urban environment. The urban infrastructure cannot expand to infinity.

The problem with the immigrants their country seems to choose to attract have higher fertility that comes with them. 

Their country must make up their mind that they only want workers, and not entire families then.

Something like Saudi Arabia, takes in only workers, not entire families.  If you take in families, they will reproduce.

The UK can also choose to accept MALES only as immigrants, as males do not reproduce, it is only FEMALES that reproduce.  So if you don't want a population increase, put up a BAN on all female immigrants.

So really, they just make up their minds what they want.  And I know what Tyler wants, the problem is that their policy makers seem to want something else.

There is a different between an immigrant (person who moves permanently to another country) and a guest worker. Although there are people who come as individuals, leaving their families in the old country, that is not an ideal situation for an intact family. Allowing immigrants has a element of humanitarianism. The Saudi Arabian model you suggest would not meet the humanitarian principles of many countries.

The Saudi Arabian model would be far more humanitarian as it would force such families to upgrade their  own circumstances in the 3rd World.

It is precisely this humanitarian philosophy that gets the UK overpopulated.

I for one don't like it when articles such as these complain about overpopulation yet, they can't fix their policies.

If they want to get things done, get things done. 

They should ban the importation / immigration of foreign women into the UK. 

It's just like farming, you want to increase your livestock, you get females.

Since UK people want to be left alone, then do not let the foreign females in because they will breed.

The worker men will want to "come home" to their countries because their women are there.

So the UK can avoid their being swamped by foreigners in the future and they can keep their Caucasian blood line intact.

Actually, immigration is only one minor aspect of overpopulation. I suspect that the UK would still be an over-concreted hell even if there had been no immigration at all in the last 100 years. The trouble is that humans have become so destructive to their environment due to technology that just one human can do untold damage to 100s of hectares.

If you cut out immigration, uk tfr is below replacement levels at less than 2.1 children per woman.  That is a big deal.  You won't be swamped by the islamic revolution.

As for cleaner technology, well you need to find a better basis for money in place of environmentally destructive petro dollars.  There are free energies out there that can and may be monetized as such.  We could be entering the star trek generation.
