Milk Raised Veal Liver
« on: July 14, 2012, 01:05:37 am »
I was looking for your opinions or suggestions regarding 100% milk raised veal liver (non-organic). My local store currently carries it. Here's the catch, the mother's of the calf's were not pasture fed. The effect of the Milk was my #1 concern. I'm a little hesitant to pull the trigger on this veal liver for now. I thought I'd ask you guy's/gal's first, and get your feedback, before I do anything.

I'd skip if you have other options available. And are you sure this milk is milk and it comes from a cow? Because with the weasel words used there's the possibility they consider milk replacer, milk as well, even though it's more like powdered malt balls.

The shit that non-organic cows get is disgusting...antibiotics, hormones, grains, beet pulp from sugar production, distillery by products for minerals, all real nasty for the cow. But if you insist, try to go visit the farm...it's at least local isn't it?

Funny you should ask this now. I bought a dollar's worth of "three-month old" milk-fed only calves liver yesterday, just for a try.  I took a taste and threw it out in this morning's trash. My past experience with various raw livers is that I can taste whether it is okay for me to eat. Thoth's comment about whether the calf was fed cow's milk makes me think that maybe the milk was not real moo, or something like that.

Thanks Thoth! I didin't even think about that (what kind of milk, or whatever they feed these calves). It make's you wonder. I'm staying away from it! See, that's why I go to you guy's/gal's first. It's funny, I have never heard of milk raised veal liver ever! Good thing I asked first. I had a feeling it wasn't going to fly in the forum. I just had to ask just in case.
Eveheart, if it doesn't pass your taste buds, recommendation, and approval. Forgetaboutit!!!!!

Thanks again you two!!!!!
