Yes. I don't think that is necessarily healthy though..

I do eat quite a lot of protein.. from quite the clean sources. I do this for years already. I have not noticed any issues so far....

The article did not specify whether they were calculating on the basis of animal weight on the hoof or net yield of meat. My guess would be that they were talking about net yield, perhaps about half of the animal's total weight. OTOH, I know some extreme athletes who chow down on immense quantities of meat. The amount in excess of the body's protein requirement turns to glucose (carbs), which would not have been a problem for the expeditioners.
