Upset stomach
« on: December 22, 2012, 04:34:12 pm »
Hey everyone. My raw brain experiences have been overall positive, considering how much better I feel.

However I've been suffering from a very strong pain in my solar plex region, that is some times a little lower. I've also been having really loose stools, very frequently. Today I've gone to the bathroom 5-6 times with 4-5 stools being very loose.

I thought it could be a parasite. But that doesn't make sense since it's grass fed, and it's brain. What are the odds of a cow, being fed hay, is going to have a parasite, or eggs in the brain?

Some other things to mention..... My brains might have gotten freezer burn. I stuck about 1/3 of all the brain in 3 different jars. It wasn't air tight at all. Is it possible the brains got freezer burn and that's what's causing my upset stomach and loose stools?

I've also looked into my medication geodon. Nausea, and vomitting are a side effect. I had the urge to vomit earlier. However it's subsided.

The pain in my stomach is very similar to the pain I got from depakote (another med) when it gave me pancreatitis.  Luckily I caught it early, discontinued the medicine immediately, and only spent a short 1.5 day stay in the hospital while they made sure it wasn't anything more serious.

Can anyone offer me any advice? Maybe my body's bacteria, from all the raw milk, are more suited to raw milk still. So it's not ready for raw meats, and maybe I suffered a mild case of food poisoning?

When I was eating uncleaned eggs, literally covered in stuff, right from the shell. I constantly got diarrhea. Once I switched from uncleaned eggs to cleaned eggs, the diarrhea subsided.

I'll update the forum tomorrow if the stomach pain is still there.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Given past instances, I suspect hypochondria to be the cause.

This morning I woke up with diarrhea, so I took some immodium. I'm feeling much better, and not trips to the bathroom yet.

I am of the same opinion as TD. Sometimes ya get diarrhea - no need for worry. As my friend used to say, "Better out than in."

It's just rare for me to have problems with raw foods. I don't think diarrhea is a natural part of eating raw, neither is cramps I think.

When a particular  individual  comes up with an unexplained new symptom every so often, one can reasonably suspect hypochondria. I recall past members such as Yuri and Nicola as doing exactly the same, so I suspect it's "all in the mind".

I actually noticed a slight bit of constipation, or lessening of frequency of bowel movement when eating raw cow brains, almost as if it created a sticky bm.   Next time you eat it, try eating less and maybe even eating it first and then later when hungry again, eating your normal foods...
I doubt  very seriously that a parasite could give you instant discomfort, unless there were actually worms that had hatched and you ate those.  ( This can be the case with the small white worms with Pacific Salmon, those worms can hurt quite a bit your stomach in a  very short time after eating ).

i like to make a ginger 'tea' when my tummy is upset. i just cut up pieces of ginger root and simmer it for 20min, then strain.

Update: I threw up a lot yesterday. Today I had more diarrhea. I'm still taking immodium.

Can hypochondria really present itself as throwing up and diarrhea?

Sometimes, yes. Though, I doubt that those particular symptoms ever  actually happened.

Simply put, the vast majority of people  do fine on a rawpalaeodiet. Some may encounter certain hurdles along the way but there is usually a solid reason such as an allergy to a specific raw food etc. When, however, someone reports new symptoms on a regular, repeated basis, one can have reason to be suspicious and assume hypochondria/orthorexia to be the real, underlying issue.

Perhaps hypochondria is not the exact term, because it denotes imaginary symptoms. However, taking actual symptoms to their worst-case scenario (food poisoning, parasites) shows a lots of worrying (fear) about a normal range of symptoms.

There are psychological studies done on ill people that show a correlation between worry/fear and illness, i.e., the more you worry, the sicker you get. The first step in healing is to "allay the fear." Then, as the body heals from diarrhea, you will have a calm mind that is unaffected by worry and fear.

Throwing up and diarrhea can occasionally happen. It's not dangerous and you even feel better afterwards.  :)
Cause and effect are distant in time and space in complex systems, while at the same time there’s a tendency to look for causes near the events sought to be explained. Alright guys... After 3 days of taking the max doses of immodium I can, and still waking up and feeling nauseous all day, having loose stools. I'm beginning to think it had nothing to do with the raw brain at all. I've eaten a lot of raw brain before, I never had these symptoms.

When I ate dirty eggs and started getting diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Around when I cut out the dirty eggs it all cleared up, and never returned. So being that I haven't eaten raw brain since like, Wednesday last week. AND I've been taking immodium, something doesn't add up. So I'm thinking it's not the brain.

I'm also thinking it's not hypochondria, or orthorexia, or imagined. And I'm definitely not making this up. I'm also definitely not worrying about it. Today I spent the day with family watching Burn Notice, eating, not thinking at all about it. Except for when I needed to rush to the bathroom, or when mid-episode my stomach started hurting.

I'm thinking it could be my a side effect of my medication, Geodon.

https://www.geodon.com/side-effects.aspx
*Nausea or upset stomach
*Diarrhea
- Not digestive, but likely related - *Increased cough/runny nose

I've also had a very strong cough recently, that started a little before the diarrhea started, and got worse as time went.

I'm also thinking it could be IBS, but it's not the main thing I think it is. Although there's evidence suggesting schizophrenia and digestive illnesses go hand in hand.

http://www.gaps.me/?page_id=20

I'm still open to other suggestions. But please, if you're going to tell me I'm orthorexic, a hypochondriac, or I'm simply not really having these symptoms. Please save it for the other members you'd like to think aren't having problems.

I'm not saying raw foods are dangerous or problematic, and that everyone's gonna get the shits from raw foods. But there is a small chance it COULD happen, though very unlikely. But the more likely answer is that it's happening because of something totally unrelated, like me with my meds. But I don't think everyone who experiences some kind of symptom is a hypochondriac, or orthorexic. Remember though I did eat raw foods for some time entirely problem free. So this is a bump in the road.

I beleive you.  I get diarrhea, stomach pain and indigestion on and off when I eat raw meats.   I'm pretty sure the indigestion is caused by egg whites, or maybe by the mixing of egg whites with half a banana, strawberries, raw milk and cilantro is a bad combination.  Every time I go back to eating raw, my first serving of raw meat or eggs seems to give me diarrhea for most of the day.  Raw milk doesnt seem to bug me at all, even when I drink it clabbered.  I try to follow some of the eating raw rules, but not at the expense of convenience or cravings.  I'm having diarrhea today, might be because I ate a double order of salmon sashimi and I havent eaten fish in over a month.  My boyfriend is concerned about me eating fish because of potential fukushima radiation.  I had been craving tuna, but they didnt have any, so maybe its because I ate something I didnt really want.   I am going to continue eating raw and I really hope my guts can adjust completely.

No wonder! You can remove the « maybe » » !

Bwahahha. This is such an old thread, so nice being so far from where I was.

I cut out the uncleaned chicken eggs Miller's offers and started ordering them cleaned. Good bye diarrhea.
