Excellent article, spot on! I'll be giving a talk on the myths and realities of the paleo diet tomorrow evening at a local health food store, and will try to incorporate some of the arguments the author makes in my presentation.

Ron Hoggan's a nice and sharp guy.

The ~30+ year age figure is usually life expectancy at birth, not maximum lifespan. It commonly gets misinterpreted to mean that few or no Stone Agers lived beyond 30 years of age and is frequently used to dismiss all Paleo/ancestral diets and lifestyles.

A more relevant figure for what people are thinking of is the modal age of adult death, which "is about seven decades" among hunter gatherers (and probably Stone Agers) per
