Orthokeratology
« on: April 29, 2016, 09:36:14 pm »
One of my biggest regrets is that, despite this RVAF diet and attempts with the Bates Method, I have never cured my myopia. So I decided to try this orthokeratology idea. It is a bit expensive for some, but has virtually no side-effects compared to the awful LASIK eye-laser-surgery and the effects are not permanent. Basically, one just has to wear specially-designed contact-lenses only at night  which reshape the cornea so that, within a month, one can see perfectly with normal vision throughout the whole day, if not before. Eventually, one only has to  wear these contact-lenses every 2nd night to maintain normal eyesight.

Orthokeratology is used more and more now for one's children to prevent myopia appearing in childhood. Myopia seems to be linked to staying indoors too much in childhood as countries with a greater emphasis on outdoor activities, such as Australia and New Zealand have much lower rates of myopia.

http://www.nature.com/news/the-myopia-boom-1.17120

Cost is c.1050 euros in the 1st year, and c. 850 euros every year thereafter for replacement lenses, fluids etc.,  though monthly payments are possible.
While there are no side-effects of any real note, only 75%+ succeed with this(after all some peoples' eyes can be irritated by close contact with contact-lenses etc.) The clinic I visited today claims an 83% success rate. Do not consider this practice, though if you have more than -4.5 diopters, or more than +2.5 diopters, and more than +2.0  astigmatism, and any eye diseases like glaucoma.

I forgot to mention that up to 2 years of going rawpalaeo and before, I had -2.5 diopters in each eye(myopic). After c.13 years of going rawpalaeo, my eyes are now(left eyeball= -2.0 diopter/right eyeball=-1.5 diopters). So, perhaps a RVAF diet can help a bit. Who here has cured their eyesight either partially or wholly with a RVAF diet, and to what extent re  numbers?

Myopia is swelling of the eyes caused by inflammation, whether that be linked to poor diet, environment or lifestyle habits, or all three.  Obviously being indoors is extremely harmful to all three.  Children and adults who suffer from myopia will never fully be "cured" by any methods unless these issues are addressed.

I would recommend laser surgery. I went from 20/200 to 20/30 and haven't had any issues.

I had bad astigmatism, where the lenses tissue was warped, likely due to childhood imbalances and living under florescent lighting. Even if one adopts a perfect diet, the tissue may become much healthier but the lenses still will likely be warped....but if you have laser corrective surgery and follow an optimal nutrition and lifestyle plan afterward your eyesight can be dramatically and permanently improved.

The trouble with laser surgery is the potential for many nasty side-effects. It also does not protect against old-age-related myopia. Then again, it may be that an RPD diet prevents all old-age-related myopia. Well, only our long-term older RVAF dieters can tell us anything re this.

Early lasik may have had problems and it is true if people are in advanced age or have poor nutrition the results may not last, but  for the most part they have it down to a science now, I had it done at an institute that has done thousands of procedures, and paid extra to have the top of the line computer guided laser procedure.

The link claims 100% are 20/20 or better, yet you report 20/30....

Here is an interesting link, showing that custom wavefront LASIK is only slightly better than standard LASIK:-

http://www.lasikcomplications.com/supervision.htm

Those who have already developed high levels of myopia(-6 diopters+?) should ideally avoid all these ideas, using lasers or contact-lenses or whatever,  and just use glasses as complications seem to rise with higher levels of myopia. I wonder if a RVAF diet would be more effective with higher levels of myopia?

I am only trying this from June. I will report results in July, by which time I will know whether it works or not. However, most do not report issues with sleeping while using such lenses. It seems that using orthokeratology lenses is no different from wearing standard contact-lenses. The difference is that one only uses orthokeratology lenses at night in bed so some things like hay-fever issues do not apply in that case.

I am going to be ultra-careful when taking them off and cleaning the lenses etc.

All I can do is speak from personal experience, and overall I am pleased with having the procedure.

When I was a teenager I used Gas permeable contacts that were suppose to reshape the cornea, but never got the kind of improvements hoped for, though while using them my perception never worsened.. the irritation and constant hassle of having to clean them and keep other debris out of the eyes was not worth it,
( in my eyes)

I had the procedure 12 years ago, right when wavefront first came out, and I have never had to pay another dime on glasses contacts or any other types of correction....before the procedure every year I had to get my perception adjusted and a new pare of glasses, which often got broken or scratched and needed to be replaced.

Peoples success may very differently, but in my particular circumstances lasik was the best option available....Because of the severity of my astigmatism even with continually changing my glasses prescriptions the best I ever could see with glasses or contacts was 20/35, so in my personal case 20/30 for 12 years after the procedure without any issues has been a blessing.
