Alcohol may be palaeo after all
« on: June 26, 2016, 03:51:13 pm »
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3660183/Drunken-monkeys-Booze-loving-African-chimps-make-special-tools-hammered-fermented-sap.html

The article mentions that the common ancestor of both chimps and humans had developed a genetic ability to digest ethanol.

Up till a few decades ago, it was claimed that alcohol only started appearing after the Neolithic era got started.
"During the last campaign I knew what was happening. You know, they mocked me for my foreign policy and they laughed at my monetary policy. No more. No more.

Here are some past threads on the topic:

And there is an interesting comment from a Dr. Garth Cambray about one of the oldest alcoholic beverages (mead), which predates humankind (as do fermented saps and nectars, mentioned in the article you shared) here:

of course alcohol is paleo. It is the fruit equivalent of high meat (albeit with somewhat opposite effect)

small to moderate amounts of raw alcohol are good for breaking up hardened resinous toxins in the body. Best eaten with lots of raw fat when doing it though. A similar effect can be achieved with pineapple although alcohol is stronger but more damaging when not eaten with raw fat. Lemon also has a similar effect on breaking up hardened resins.

They are really good for breaking down cooked plant oils stored in the body. THis can be seen when you place a a cannabis pipe full of resin in a cup of everclear. The tough resin breaks right off after leaving a totally clean pipe.

I have met teetotalers who won't eat ripe or overripe durian (some muslims, or those following very strict health rules) because of the alcohol.

About the statement that alcohol should be eaten with fat, I remember when a Ukrainian fellow traveller proudly wanted me to try his homeland speciality: vodka (ok, not paleo at all), raw garlic and a cube of pig fat. Actually, real nice  (in small amounts).
