The readers'  comment below the article:- "Over 65 years ago, I still remember the dark country lanes and the moths and other insects in the headlight beams. By day the windscreen became covered with squashed insects. And what about the beehives dying out? All down to agricultural chemicals. Are the fruit and vegetables tastier? No they are not. They are slowly killing us. But nor so fast as we would notice."

My brother works in the produce department at a grocery store, and tells me how the Fruit comes in crates that have warning labels that list the various dangerous chemicals used, but the labels are removed when the produce is set out in the display cases, and he tells me that nobody ever ask what the produce is treated with. He wears gloves and wont touch the fruit with his bare hands.

That explains the foul acidic taste on the blue and blackberries I bought.
