Also,the author's estimate is that Neanderthals could have been, on average, 25 IQ points higher than (modern?) humans.This makes sense if one takes into account the fact that Neanderthals built boats and other technology long before early modern humans did. And then there is the far larger Neanderthal skull (1650 cc). Then there is the fact that Neanderthals lived in much smaller groups than early modern humans - this would have speeded up their evolution as smaller tribal sizes would have allowed positive mutations to spread more easily in each group.
