Frogs?
« on: May 31, 2009, 09:23:04 pm »
My hunter got some wild edible frogs this morning.
I ate some raw frogs for lunch.
Tasted like raw chicken -- with no slime.
Only the legs had good amount of meat.
Bland taste.
Not something to dream about.

Any recommendations, experiences eating frogs?

Not much point eating animals equal or smaller than a rabbit. I myself avoid rabbits as eating them raw means I get hardly any flesh off them due to the difficulties. I did eat frogs once but in cooked form during pre-rawpalaeo days and they were too bland in taste and too small in amount. Now snails can be good if they get the right sauce with them.Though I've heard they're particularly prone to parasites, whether that's true or not.

When I was a kid there was a certain restaurant in Michigan my parents went to, and I would get a big plate full of fried frog legs. They tasted a lot like fried chicken to me. I didn't really know how exotic it was at the time. (For these parts anyway) I haven't seen frog legs on any menus around here since then.

I've got so many snails (Helix pomatia) on my land that I'm quite keen on eating them, as they've got good nutrition value
Do you think that's dangerous to eat them raw? Could be those parasites the bad ones? AV says that all parasites are good, but is it really true?
Do you blame vultures for the carcass they eat?

Who knows. There are so many scare-stories about raw snails and other raw(wild) meats(just google "raw snails" to find several)  yet when one looks at the accounts of RVAFers one finds that parasitic infestations or infection from bacteria etc. is so incredibly rare, that there must be something to Aajonus' idea that it's the environment(eg:- unhealthy diet/body) that is at fault, rather than the so-called "pathogen". So far, I've been eating huge amounts of raw wild foods(eg:- raw limpets, raw oysters, raw wild hare carcasses, raw wild mallard duck etc.) and not once have I ever had any parasite-related issues. As a result, i tend to think that Aajonus is c.90% right and the medical boards only 10% right. If in the future, I ever do get such infections, I will have to revise my opinion, but, for now, after almost 8 years on this diet, I am reasonably convinced re the rawist view.

I never tried frogs at all, and no raw snails (or hares).  Tell me what you find.  If I ever do eat those, I want to know, are they good alone?  Mono days? With suet?  Unheated honey?  Lemon?  I don't have a frame of reference.  They seem a little alien to my table/kitchen as of yet.
