Rewilding failure in Holland

They failed because the idiots did not put predators like wolves in. Plus, they should have done what those British farmers did re rewilding, which was to let the land lie fallow until all sorts  of plants grew, then, after a 1-2 years, start introducing 1 or 2  flocks/small herds every  subsequent  year or so.
