This is highly speculative and rather ignores an obvious fact, that accumulation of AGEs and other heat-created toxins (mostly resulting from cooked animal foods)does far more damage to the DNA thus greatly accelerating aging. And I'm highly amused that so far no scientific study has ever once actually shown cooked low-carbers as living longer - quite the opposite, of course, as study after study

(eg:-  http://www.healingcancernaturally.com/vegetarians-live-longer.html  )

shows vegetarians living the longest(as regards all other cooked-dieters), and that's not counting the innumerable studies showing a higher mortality-rate for those who incorporate more cooked animal foods into their diet.

http://www.oxveg.veggroup.org/articles/1114.html :

    *  vegetarians have low mortality compared with the general population
    * much of this benefit is attributable to non-dietary lifestyle factors such as the avoidance of smoking and a high socio-economic status
    * vegetarians have similar mortality to comparable non-vegetarians, although a vegetarian diet may confer an additional 1-2 years of life (at least among US Adventists).

http://www.westonaprice.org/mythstruths/mtbeef.html :

"the total death rate decreased as the frequencies of consuming cheese, eggs, meat and milk increased"

"although the authors claim that their study showed that vegetarians lived longer, Smith found quite the opposite when he looked carefully at the hard data"

http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2006/jan2006_awsi_01.htm :

"Longevity studies of vegetarians produce conflicting data. Some studies do not show that vegetarians live significantly longer.25,29 Two studies of people who consumed very little meat showed an average life-span increase of 3.6 years.39 A huge study of Seventh Day Adventists who ate little or no meat showed longevity increases of 7.28 years in men and 4.42 years in women.40 These data are confounded by the fact that Seventh Day Adventists follow healthy lifestyles free of tobacco and alcohol.

Studies suggest that the longevity benefits conferred by a vegetarian diet dissipate as humans enter their ninth decade.39 This implies that while vegetarian diets reduce disease risk, restricting one’s diet to only plant foods does not completely protect against the effects of aging."

etc., etc., etc...

Like I said, the number of studies showing benefits re longevity etc. for vegetarian diets far outweigh the rather paltry number of studies you've shown so far9and as in the other post I made do indeed take into account healthy lifestyle choices,m yet still show increased longevity for vegetarians). The Weston Price article is as usual totally fanatical and heavily biased as one would expect given the fraudulent nature of Weston-Price himself(I mean how can one possibly trust an organisation which believes in a man who made false claims re surgery supposedly fixing down's syndrome). The reference re a "statistician" "re-interpreting" the study's clear results(re 7th day adventists' vegetarian longevity)  in his own way is most indicative of bias. I realise that the main problem is that the pro-cooked-low-carb crowd have very few studies showing any real health benefits and absolutely no studies whatsoever showing a benefit re longevity for cooked low carb diets.

As for the 9th decade claim, that I can believe for 1 reason:- the incidence of cancers is most common in the region of 55-75 years of age, with many serious (and potentially fatal) health problems such as heart-disease (heavily associated with a diet high in cooked meat) usually killing people off before they reach 70 or so.So, if one can survive past that stage, one has a better chance(no doubt those who do survive go in more for caloric restriction and similiar practices(as many older people inevitably do), thus greatly reducing the levels of AGEs and other heat-created toxins they would otherwise consume via cooked meats.

more good evidence carnivore, though I have read this article before.

Carb restriction mimics calorie restriction hence longer lifespan and greater health. It's simple when put that way.

No people in ketosis were in the study.

No people in ketosis were in the study.

Unfortunately, studies done on ketogenic diets clearly show side-effects such as kidney-stones(or am I now going to be informed that kidney-stones are healthy?)

Well most Ketogenic diets have huge amounts of heated dairy products/plant oils/artificial sweeteners. Kidney stones could possibly be the result of these foods and are painfull from what I hear.

Well, studies generally show an increased likelihood of kidney stones on a high(cooked) meat diet but that dairy actually reduced the incidence of kidney stones,(though not artificial calcium supplements):-

The real problem I find with all this discussion is that several members are actually prepared to defend them despite the fact that the vast majority of  cooked low carb diets are extremely unhealthy containing copious amounts of dairy(eg:- Kwasniewski and even Stefansson recommended dairy heavily))(and some cooked low carb diets even include processed sweets in the case of the Atkins Diet/Warrior Diet supplements/candy-bars).

*An example of what I mean is a recent bizarre claim that I wasn't a "true" Palaeo. In actual fact, it's some of the zero-carbers  here, such as Lex, who are promoting non-raw as well as non-Palaeo practices, wrongly claiming them to be healthy. I've come across people actually daring to promote not only unhealthy cooked animal fat(pemmican), but also promoting consumption of pasteurised butter(just as unhealthy) and then damning various palaeo foods such as seafood, fruit and veg(routinely eaten in southerly climates in Palaeo times).  I wonder what's next, perhaps  zcers claiming that hydrogenated lard is OK as it's derived from cooked animal fat l), or claims that grainfed meat (such as the meat in a McDonald's hamburger) is healthy or some other such nonsense.
