Where do I start?
« on: December 27, 2009, 10:07:25 am »
Hi to everyone!

New here, and not sure how to get started.

I'm in the US, in Las Vegas, NV.  Older fellow, overfed, under exercised American. Guilty as charged.

I've got my share of health issues, and I know something has to change. And that means me and what I eat!

I grew up on and lived much of my adult life eating cheap carbs and sugar. I'm sure many know what I mean.

Some history. My apologies if I put you to sleep!

As a young man traveling on my own many, many years ago, I ate a meal on the road that I remember to this day. It was simple and it should not have been memorable, but at 50+ years of age I remember it today. The meal was purchased at a small Mom-n-Pop store in some unremembered backwater place in rural USA. It consisted of a semi-dried meat product packaged in a small glass jar that would double as a juice glass later, an apple and two cold bottles of beer.  I remember feeling refreshed and energized and like I had ingested what I needed to thrive. I remember that. At the time I had no idea why. Then, it was soon forgotten and I returned to my usual business, and life went on.

Fast forward to the early 80's and my experience with the "Drinking Mans Diet." I lost a lot of weight and suffered more than a few bouts of concrete colon, but generally I felt OK with this. Again I didn't know why.

All pounds regained and many years later I sorta went Paleo. Meat, fruit, vegetables, nuts and berries. Cheating with heavy cream, butter and occasionally beans. I lost some pounds but not enough. I did this for over a year and never felt better. But it didn't last. So much prep and it cost more money.

Now I've got two stents, diabetes, and kidney stones. I'm on half a dozen meds a day.

Cheap carbs and sugar may be what makes 7 Billion people on this planet possible, but frankly, those two things are killing me!

I gotta eat what I was evolutionarily designed to eat. I gotta start now! I feel like time is running out...

And...

TAG! You're it!

I need your help to get started. How do I choose a diet? How do I find out and really know what is right for me?

Start experimenting with (hopefully grass-fed) beef/lamb, truly free-range poultry (it should probably be local, so you can verify that it's free-range), good-quality seafoods, and maybe some high-quality fruits.  Bone marrow is a good fat source. Look for local foods whenever you can.  You know how its grown that way.  Eat all your food as raw as you can take it, and gradually work your way to totally raw.

Buying Aajonus Vonderplanitz' books helped me understand immensely how things go.  See www.wewant2live.com for the books.

Too bad I turned out to be lactose intolerant so i take none of Aajonus' dairy advice.  Then I found out that green vegetable juices upset my stomach as well.

That's why I landed here... Raw Paleo diet.

I compiled some detox cleansing guidelines at my website www.curemanual.com although not everything there is considered paleo.

There is a guide for newbies at www.rawpaleodiet.com

I also suggest getting started with the fundamentals of natural healing with www.docsutter.com for an overview of how real healing goes.  Doc Sutter isn't a raw foodist so he still recommends fish oil supplements, you can ignore that advice and get real raw fish or real grass fed land animal fat which are all so much more potent.

I'm into majority meat (beef, duck eggs and wide variety of sea food) then hydrating fruit and very rarely veggies.

Lots of raw animal fat is the key. Cleansing, lubricating, detoxing, etc.

You should read all the threads in the "Info for Newbies" section:-

The above links cover most of what we routinely discuss on rawpaleoforum, and the 2 bottom links give you ideas on how to get used to raw foods, where to buy them, what kind of quality you should be aiming for wtc.
