Very first post...
« on: December 27, 2009, 09:11:45 am »
I was really pleased to find this website, I happened upon it while doing a search that had "paleo" in it.  I've been experimenting with raw diets for the last five years and have been experimenting with a cooked paleo diet for the last year or so after reading a few books on the subject last winter.  I killed my first deer this past fall, and have long thought raw game tasted much better than cooked, so this felt like a good time to explore a raw paleo diet.  I never imagined there would be resources like this available, but I'm glad there are!

No questions as of yet regarding the diet.  Solstice passed earlier this past week, and that was the start of my raw paleo diet, so we'll see how it goes.  I've already fallen off the wagon on a couple instances due to the Christmas holiday, which I feel obligated to participate in even though I'm not religious.

I guess I do have a question regarding my avatar.  Do people feel this is acceptable?  I figured folks who advocate a raw paleo diet would be accepting of images like this, but if anyone feels uncomfortable with it please let me know and I can change it to something a little less *messy*.

All the best...

Welcome Eric.  Avatar looks great.  I wouldn't worry about falling off the wagon on occasion.  Living a long and healthful life is rather pointless if you don't enjoy it.  I always join in and eat a bit of the holiday feasts - usually sticking to the meats, but not above tasting something special if offered.  It's what we do 90% of the time that determins the outcome, not the occasional diversion of a holiday meal with family and friends.

I guess I do have a question regarding my avatar.  Do people feel this is acceptable?

Welcome. I believe hunting is sacred in the sense of being the right, necessity and obligation of all predators and an integral part of human life and the great wheel of life and a great revivifier of human flesh and spirit. To deny it is to deny our humanity and our place in the wheel--to arrogantly put ourselves above nature and look down upon it as dirty; to deny our animal nature.

I fish but I do not yet hunt. If I did and I were asking the question I would seek to learn what I could of how to behave form the experts--those who hunted for thousands of years before me, from their descendents, or from those who have studied the ancestral hunters or more recent hunter-gatherers. Then maybe I could answer my own question. Since you asked the question, I think it shows you have the right spirit, and I am in no position to criticize you.

Welcome!

For sure, game is tastier, healthier and more nutritious and "paleo" than domesticated animals. I am currently studying hunting as I want to hunt next year (maybe with a bow).
So I like your avatar.

Your avatar looks fine, it's certainly more "palaeo" in theme than any of our avatars.

I'm glad you've adjusted to the taste of raw wild game so quickly. I myself far prefer raw wild game to even the best grassfed meats, and routinely eat raw wildcaught seafood such as raw oysters/scallops/swordfish etc., raw wild hare carcasses, raw wild mallard duck etc. etc.

Anyway, welcome to the forum!
